Many of us carry guilt when we rest or put ourselves first. In this powerful meditation, you’ll be guided to meet your inner child and hear what she truly needs. As you connect with her, you’ll discover that self-care isn’t selfish — it’s essential. This practice helps you release guilt, honour your needs, and reclaim the joy of rest and play.

As you close your eyes now,

Listen to the music and focus on your breath.

Allow your breath to fall into its own natural rhythm and as you listen to my voice,

Your body will slowly begin to relax.

Bring your attention to your forehead and release any tension there.

As the furrows of the brow release,

Allow that feeling to flow down through your face,

Relaxing your eye and flow into your jaw.

Allow your whole face to relax.

As you feel this relaxation moving through your neck,

Visualize a golden light.

See this golden light flowing down through your neck,

Into your shoulders and now see it flowing down your arms,

Let your fingers gently uncurl.

Imagine this golden light in your chest now,

Fill in your heart with its glow and watch as it flows effortlessly through your body,

Releasing any tension as it goes.

Feel it moving through your hips now,

All the way down your legs.

As it flows,

It fills you up with its golden rays of healing light,

Which fills up your feet now and releases any final tension in the body.

Your body feels light and as I count you down from five to one,

You'll fall even deeper into a wonderfully relaxed state.

Five,

Four,

Feeling lighter as you focus on my voice and feel the glow from the golden light flowing through your whole body,

Three,

Drifting into a deeper relaxed state,

Two,

Feeling like you're floating now as your body completely lets go.

Your body feels completely relaxed and calm.

Now bring your awareness to your chest area.

Imagine you're standing in a corridor and in front of you is a doorway,

This doorway leads into your heart,

Walk towards it slowly now and now open the door.

There before you was a child,

How old is she?

You notice she's sad and a tear rolls down her cheek.

She's sad because she's been so busy helping everyone that she hasn't had time to play today.

She hasn't had time to laugh or sing,

To draw or paint.

She hasn't been outside and enjoyed the fresh air or done any of her favorite things.

She loves to help people,

It makes her feel good,

But lately she's helped too many people and forgot to care for herself.

She wants so much to go and play with her friends,

But she sees how much there is to be done.

She can't seem to find time to stop and relax.

She's so busy doing,

She has no time for just being.

She has forgotten how to play and rest.

This little girl is your inner child,

She lives within you,

Perhaps you see yourself as a child or maybe even your own daughter standing there before you.

Go to her now and hold her,

Hug her and tell her how much you love her.

Tell her you love that she wants to help people but that she must also take time to rest and play.

Wipe the tear from her cheek and love her like you would your own child.

Know that this little girl lives within you,

She is part of you and she needs all of her needs taken care of too.

She needs to laugh,

To play,

To relax and just be.

She needs to grow and learn and she does that best when she is immersed in the joys of life,

Not just the mundane tasks.

We get so caught up in life,

In the routine of it all,

We can sometimes forget that there's so much more to be seen and enjoyed.

We forget that there's more to life than work and endless to-do lists.

We forget that through the eyes of a child,

Life is magical.

We grow up too fast,

But our inner child is still there,

Still longing to play and laugh and see the magic.

Next time you're too busy to stop and play with your child or too busy to take a rest,

Remember this little girl inside of you and remember she needs love and nurturing too.

The world doesn't need to stop being magical,

Life is what you make it.

Start seeing light through the eyes of your inner child,

Listen to her silent whispers when she asks you to stop and play a while,

To take a nap or to sit and allow yourself to just enjoy the moment.

Next time you feel guilty for taking a rest,

Think of this little girl.

See the tear roll down her cheek,

See how tired she is and comfort her like you would any child.

I'll leave you here for a moment to connect with your inner child.

Perhaps she has something to say to you or maybe you have something to say to her.

It's almost time for us to go now.

Remember this little girl before you each time you feel guilty for taking a break.

Every time you feel like you have to keep pushing on,

Think of your inner child.

She's within you and she needs to come out and play.

She needs time to relax and just be.

Just as you ensure your child gets enough rest and time to do the things they love,

Be sure to do the same for your inner child.

She needs time out.

Someone to tell her everything's gonna be okay and someone to talk to her in kind and loving ways.

As you start to love your inner child like you do your own child,

We'll start to see how much happier she is when she isn't trying to do it all.

When she has time to fill her cup,

It will naturally overflow to all of those around her.

And before we leave,

I want you to imagine a piece of paper in front of you now.

Pick up the pen beside it and write the words,

I release guilt.

I release guilt.

And now as the words dry on the page,

See yourself putting the paper into an envelope and tying it to a piece of string on a balloon.

It's time to release guilt for taking a much needed break.

It's time to nurture yourself.

Standing side by side with your inner child,

You hold the balloon together.

You make a commitment.

You're showing her that you're ready to put your needs first.

Now let the balloon go and watch as it floats away.

Your guilt has been released and your inner child is happy.

See her beautiful smile now.

She trusts that you will honor your commitment and you will get the rest you both need.

It's time to nurture yourself.

Self-care isn't another thing to add to your to-do list.

It's the one thing that will make that list doable.

Give your inner child a kiss goodbye.

And now begin to walk back towards the door.

Close the door behind you as you step back into the corridor.

And bring your awareness to the base of your spine.

Feel the surface beneath you as you begin to connect back to the present moment.

Notice the weight of your body.

Any noises in the room.

And feel your awareness rising through your body.

I'm going to count you back from one to three.

And as I do,

With each number you'll bring your awareness back to the conscious moment.

Feeling relaxed and ready to honor your commitment.

The guilt-free self-care.

One.

Bring your awareness to your breath.

Taking a deep breath in as you ready yourself to wait.

Two.

Gently stretch and wriggle your fingers and toes as you bring your awareness to your body.

Stretch in as you need to.

And three.

Open your eyes and take a lovely deep breath in.
