Transcript

Today we're going to do a mindful eating meditation.

This requires you to sit down with your food and follow the steps to mindfully eat it.

Keep away all distractions.

Turn off the tv,

The computer.

If possible,

Put your phone on airplane mode so you aren't disturbed with any calls or notifications.

For this activity,

It's best to have fresh,

Beautiful,

Plant-based foods.

Lots of colorful vegetables or even some dry fruits and nuts.

We're gonna go deep into the awareness of where the food came from.

That's why it's best to have food which brings you joy when you bravely,

Deeply think of where it came from.

Do this meditation with every meal that you have and with each mindful meal,

With each mindful bite,

Watch how your connection to your food increases.

Watch how the awareness and consciousness increases.

This will slowly and automatically help you choose foods that are good for you,

Good for your body,

Good for your soul.

Foods that uplift you and raise your vibrations.

Now sit down with your plate or bowl of delicious food.

Look at it.

Look at all the colors,

The textures.

Admire the beauty of the food.

Now pick any one ingredient on your plate.

Choose it and for a moment contemplate on its journey,

On how it reached your plate.

Where was it grown?

What plant did it come from?

How did it flower and fruit?

All the little critters that were responsible,

That were helpful in the growth of this food.

The earthworms,

The bees,

The butterflies,

The wind,

The water and the sunshine and all of nature.

Now watch as it is being harvested by loving hands.

It has reached its potential and now it's ready to come to you.

Watch its journey as it moves from one place to another.

Did it come directly from your garden or did it come from a farm far far away?

Think of the different processes it's gone through.

Think of how fresh it is,

How close it is to its original form before it reached your plate.

And finally from your kitchen,

How was it cut,

Washed,

Sliced or ground?

What was the process it went through to come onto your plate or was it just picked as it was right from your pantry or your fridge and then placed onto your plate?

Watch the final steps of its journey.

Now pick it up with your hand,

With your fingers and bring it close to you and smell it.

What does it smell like?

When you smell it,

What happens in your body?

Does your tongue salivate?

Is there a gurgle in your stomach waiting for it in readiness?

What kind of feeling does it fill your mind?

Is it anticipation?

Is it a deep addictive craving or simply a detached waiting to eat?

Check your mind,

Your stomach,

Your mouth.

Check your feelings.

Are you feeling happy and joyful to be eating this food?

Are you feeling gratitude for it or is it guilt?

What kind of feelings come for you when you take this particular food close to you to eat?

Now with gratitude,

Place this bit of food on your tongue but don't start chewing.

Just feel it in your mouth for a moment.

Feel the textures,

The taste and now slowly chew it.

Chew for longer.

Don't just swallow it.

Just keep chewing it.

Feel the taste,

The texture.

How long does this experience of biting and chewing into your food last?

Is it immediately dissolving and melting away?

And what kind of taste or pleasure do you feel while you're chewing it?

Did the pleasure of eating this food disappear after that first chewing,

First few seconds and did it turn into just a tasteless mashed up paste in your mouth?

Or while you keep chewing,

The longer you chew,

Is the taste lasting on your tongue?

Is that feeling of satisfaction going for a longer time?

Now this is a very very good indicator of the kind of foods that we should be eating.

Things that you can hold in your mouth and chew on for long and enjoy for long.

And finally,

Swallow the food and as you swallow it,

What is the feeling that you feel in your stomach?

Is it soothing,

Satisfying or do you feel uncomfortable?

Exactly what are the sensations you're feeling in your stomach?

Now repeat this process with more of the food from your plate.

Picking it,

Looking at it,

Smelling it,

Then placing it in your mouth,

Letting it sit there,

Then chewing it and then swallowing it.

Slowly,

Mindfully and consciously.

Be connected with your food and through every step of the way,

Be very conscious of your body's reactions to the food.

Enjoy the rest of your meal in this beautiful mindful way.
