
Accessing Your True Self Energy Through Embodiment Practice

This is a powerful exercise to get you in touch with the physicality of your true Self-energy as it is known in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and other approaches. It will help you understand what Self-energy feels like and how to access more of it in your daily life. Your Self-energy – sometimes called the "sage mind", your true or your higher self – is your true essence, your unchanging inner self that is compassionate, curious, calm, confident, courageous, creative, clear, and connected. This embodiment meditation will guide you through scenarios that evoke three powerful states of Self-energy: deep empathy, creative flow, and confident action. It will help you to locate, understand, and access these energies within your body.

This is an exercise to get you a little bit more in touch with the physicality of your true self-energy to help you understand what that feels like and how to access more of it in your daily life.
Your self-energy,
Or sometimes called the sage mind,
Your true or your higher self,
Or whatever term you prefer to use,
Is your true essence.
Your unchanging inner self that is compassionate,
Curious,
Calm,
Confident,
Courageous,
Creative,
Clear,
And connected.
It's the energy that we access in mindfulness meditation and when we're in flow.
And when we have access to this particular way of showing up in the world,
We feel content and at ease and are more able to meet the demands and challenges in life.
So this session will help you familiarize yourself with this mode and how it feels in your body.
Keep in mind that these are subtle energies.
Some people don't have much access to their body and so they live mostly in their head.
And so what I want you to begin to have you realize is that your body is much more useful than just carrying a brilliant head.
Your body is an antenna.
Your body is a channel that can help you picking up on emotions of your own and other people and activating access to a part of your brain that has the emotions and thoughts associated with self-energy.
And on the other side,
Your body is a great way to catch yourself when your parts are taking over,
Trying to manage and protect you.
You can then use your body to begin to move into the wonderful qualities of the self.
And that's what we want to begin to practice a little bit with this visualization.
So please do this with me.
If you can do this standing up,
You get more range of motion than if you're sitting.
If you can do this standing up,
Then please stand up.
And if not,
Sitting down is okay too.
So now just standing up comfortably,
Or if you're sitting,
Then remain sitting.
Just get comfortable and relaxed.
And please just allow your eyes to close down now and bring your attention to your feet.
Feel the weight of your feet on the floor and try to find as many of your toes as you can.
Wiggle your toes if you need to so you can find as many of your toes as you can.
And now shift your attention to your sense of touch.
Gently rub two fingertips against each other with such attention that you can feel the fingertip ridges on both fingers.
Gently rub all the fingertips of one hand against the fingertips and palm of the other and feel all those sensations of touch.
Let go of any thoughts you might be having.
Now take a few deep breaths.
And now let your breath relax back into its natural rhythm.
Let your breath relax.
And now I want you to visualize yourself in a scene from the past.
That could be an imagined scene.
Maybe it's an actual scene.
Maybe it's a made-up scene where you were deeply empathizing with someone.
A scene where you feel deep compassion and love and connection.
And maybe it's a scene where you're holding your puppy or hugging your puppy or a pet.
Or maybe it's a scene where you're holding a loved one or a child.
Maybe it's a totally different scene.
But either make up a scene or actually take yourself to a scene where you felt that deep,
Deep empathy,
Love,
Compassion,
Gratitude,
And connection.
And notice what kind of scene it is.
Is it outdoors or indoors?
Notice if there are any other people in the scene or any other beings.
And notice the expression of your eyes and the expression of your face in the scene where you're in touch with deep love and compassion.
For yourself,
For others,
For another being.
Notice the way you're holding your head and the way you're holding or moving your arms and hands and your whole physical posture as you're deeply in empathy,
Deep love,
And compassion.
And now bring this energy and attitude of love and compassion and empathy into your head and face right now.
Feel deep empathy,
Love,
Compassion,
And connectedness in your head and face.
Feel that energy,
The empathy,
The love,
The compassion,
The connectedness in your head and face.
Feel it in your eyes.
Have it affect the way you're holding your head or moving your head.
Feel this deep love and compassion in the way you're moving or holding your arms and hands.
Feel this attitude,
This energy in the way you're holding or moving your arms and hands.
And now notice the breath.
Notice the way you're breathing with this deep love and compassion.
How do you breathe differently when you're in this kind of feeling?
Do you breathe more deeply or more shallow?
Do you breathe more slowly or more quickly?
Breathe with this empathy power in your body.
Breathe with empathy in your chest and stomach.
Feel it in your breath.
Feel the love and compassion in your breath,
In your chest and stomach.
And now feel it all over your body.
Have your entire body,
Your entire physicality be exuding this attitude of deep love and compassion.
Have your whole body in this mode of love and compassion and empathy.
And now scan your body and notice where in your body this energy lives the most.
Where is it the strongest?
Notice where in your body this energy of love and compassion lives the strongest.
And if you wish,
Put your hand on that part of your body to anchor it.
Notice how beautiful this energy is.
All of your self energy is beautiful,
Is wonderful.
You want to stay in this energy.
And as wonderful as it feels,
Let it go now.
Let go of this posture and physicality of empathy and compassion now.
Just let that go and go back to a neutral stance.
Your head straight,
Your chest open,
Just neutral stance.
Notice your breath.
Notice the rising and falling of your chest or stomach as you let go of this physicality.
And now gently bring yourself to a scene which may have happened or you may be making it up where you're feeling deeply creative and innovative.
Where you're really in touch with the creative flow of your mind.
You're trusting the creative flow of your mind.
You are feeling the joy of creativity and genuine curiosity.
And again,
It may have happened,
Maybe an actual scene or you may be making it up.
It's a scene in which you're totally trusting the creative being that you are and following your creative instincts and letting that flow within you.
Notice the expression of your face in the scene as you're deeply trusting the creative being that you are and allowing the creative juices to flow in you,
Following those instincts.
Notice the expression of your face and the expression of your eyes.
Notice your whole physical posture,
How you're holding your body or moving your body as you're in touch with a deep creative flow within you.
Now bring that energy and attitude to your own body right now.
So feel that creative flow in your eyes and in your face.
Feel the attitude of the creative being that you are that trusts your creative instincts and goes with that flow.
Feel that attitude in your head and face and your eyes and the joy of creativity that comes with it.
Hold your head in a way that goes with that attitude.
Feel that creative attitude in your arms and hands,
The way you hold or move your arms and hands.
Feel that creative flow in your chest and stomach.
How do you breathe differently with that creative flow through you?
You're trusting your creative instincts.
You're going with the joy of creativity with your instincts.
How do you breathe differently when you're in touch with that?
And notice your whole posture,
Your whole physicality as you're standing or sitting.
Stand or sit with the attitude of this creative being that completely trusts the flow of creativity through you.
Feel that attitude all over your body.
And notice where in your body this attitude and this energy is strongest.
Where it shows up in your body the strongest.
And if you wish,
Put your hand on that part of your body to anchor it.
And notice how beautiful this feels.
Notice how wonderful this energy of yourself feels.
All self-energy feels wonderful to be in.
As good as it feels,
Let it go.
Let that go and go back to a neutral stance.
Go back to a neutral stance.
And just notice your breath rising and falling.
And then release the creative mode just back to the neutral stance.
And now finally,
Let's take you to a scene where you are confident and activated.
Ready to face your challenges like a warrior.
This is calm,
Clear-headed,
Fearless,
Laser-focused,
Activated.
You feel your backbone in this scene.
You feel your power.
You trust your power.
And you are ready to take action.
You are ready to take action.
You are ready to take action.
And you are ready to take action.
And you are ready to take action.
And you are ready to take action.
And you are ready to take action.
And you are ready to take action.
And you are ready to take action.
And you are ready to take action.
And you are ready to take action.
And you are ready to take action.

Feel your own power.
You have unlimited power when you're in touch with your amazing self,
Capable of anything you set your mind to when you're in this mode of your true self.
Notice where in your body this power lives.
Where in your body is the anchor for this active,
Courageous,
Confident power?
Clear-headed,
Laser-focused,
Fearless,
Confident.
And if you wish,
Put your hand on that part of your body so you can anchor it for yourself.
Notice once again that this is a wonderful energy of the self.
You feel so good.
This energy,
Like every other self-energy,
Is complete with positive emotions that you want to stay in.
Self-energy is beautiful.
And it's self-energy that allows you to confidently lead all parts of you.
Okay.
Now,
In a moment,
Please come back.
And as you come out of it and your eyes open,
Gently rest your eyes on an object in front of you just so that you stay connected.
So as you look at that object,
Just notice some details that you didn't notice before.
Just pay close attention,
Relaxed,
Focused attention that keeps you grounded.
And if you haven't already,
Go back to the neutral stance so that you don't stay in this powerful activation because it may not be the power you want to be in in the next five minutes.
So go back to the neutral stance.
Your self knows what it needs.
All right.
