This meditation is dedicated to my brother,
Kevin,
And to anyone grieving the loss of someone they love.
We know the day is coming,
The anniversary of loss.
When,
Without invitation,
Grief revisits and reminds us of a love no longer with us in the flesh.
A brother,
A sister,
A spouse,
A parent,
A friend,
A pet.
The impending pain approaches as the world spins incessantly,
Without any consideration that ours has changed forever.
We move through our new reality,
Slowly learning how to exist in a world that no longer includes their physical form.
Yet,
While grief wraps around us with its often unclenching grip,
We understand this deep pain is in fact the scar of loving deeply,
Of loving fully.
Of being human.
We grow within its clenches,
Learning how to breathe again despite the grip,
To grow despite the constriction.
And in time,
We remember that love is never lost.
We can close our eyes and breathe.
We can feel the pain.
We can feel the grief.
We can feel the love.
We can feel all of it.
Knowing this pain is the powerful reminder of love that hasn't gone anywhere.
It is within us always.
Love that survives,
Even grows,
Despite the absence.
Love that reminds,
Despite the time.
And love that endures,
Despite the pain.
Inviting you now to gently close the eyes.
Noticing whatever is in this moment.
Noticing how the body feels.
Noticing the pain.
Being with the pain.
Noticing how that feels in the body,
The heart,
The mind.
In these moments,
The veil can lift.
Between us and those we love.
Pain helps lift that veil if we allow it.
Take a deep breath.
Allow whatever you are feeling to be.
You are not alone.
You are never alone.
We are not alone.
Inviting you to visualize that person,
That being.
Bringing their image to mind.
Perhaps recalling a moment that you shared and enjoyed.
Imagining that being at peace.
Watching over you and watching over us.
In this moment.
Inviting you to send love and light and peace to that person,
To that being.
Sending all that love,
Despite the pain.
And envisioning them receiving it.
Welcoming it.
Embracing it.
Embracing you.
Grief can lift the veil.
The veil that separates us from those who may no longer be with us in the physical world.
Inviting you slowly,
When you are ready,
No rush.
Opening up the eyes.
Taking in the outside world.
And remembering,
You are not alone.
