Allow The Ever Present Being To Meditate
When you sit down to meditation you begin as a body and mind stating a techniques. However, meditation is knowing the Knower which is free from the confines of the physical form and life experiences. As the Knower you are living in the ever-present reality and when you meditate as the Knower then you are free from the waking state difficulties and living in the peace and joy or your own Self.

With Shri,
Allow the ever-present being to meditate you.
When one begins to meditate,
The instructions are to sit down,
Find a comfortable position,
Close your eyes,
Watch your breath,
Repeat a mantra.
Allow the thoughts to come and go and keep bringing the attention whenever you remember,
Either back to the flow of your breathing or to the repetition of the mantra.
From this perspective,
We can see that we start now as a human being in the waking state who has realized that whatever situations,
Desires,
Achievements,
Activities that one has engaged in,
In order to find a happy and peaceful existence or life,
Has failed sometimes.
Sometimes your desires are fulfilled and you feel good,
Your preferences are met,
You feel comfortable.
Other times they're not.
You feel worried,
Scared,
Angry,
And that whole array of human emotions.
This is how the human being,
The human system functions in the waking state.
However,
We can very quickly and easily bring in the knowledge of the other three states of consciousness,
That there is a deep sleep state where none of those human emotions are there.
And even though in the waking state your eyes compel you to see all the forms,
In the deep,
In the dream state,
Your eyes are closed and yet you're still seeing because the mind is still there.
So that inner vision still functions,
The eyes as if see different situations,
Different forms,
Yourself going through many trials and tribulations sometimes.
And yet there's also that deep sleep state where the mind is not present and you're not seeing anything.
And then you wake up and there's the waking state where you say,
I am this person that's in the waking state.
You no longer say,
I am the person that was in the dream state or I am the present person that was in the deep sleep state.
Now you become this waking state person.
So you're identified as your name and your form.
This is my life.
These are my children.
These are my parents.
These are my relations.
These are my friends.
This is my job.
This is my house.
This is my car.
And this becomes your world,
The world that you've now imagined in the waking state,
Which is totally different possibly than the world you imagined in the dream state where you had a completely different world or identity and completely different than the world that was in the deep sleep state where there was no mind and there was just peace and ease.
So now as the one who's observing,
The one who's knowing all these three states,
We can become aware that there was a being that was ever present in all the states.
So now in meditation,
We become aware of that ever present being that hasn't changed according to the deep sleep state,
According to the dream state,
According to the waking state.
This now ever present being can be called the fourth state.
Now going back for a moment as I described the basic technique of meditation where you close your eyes and you begin to repeat a mantra or watch the breath as a technique.
But when we start from the waking state being the one who believes him or herself to be a mind,
A body,
Personality,
Good and bad,
Right and wrong,
Likes and dislikes,
And now you as that individual body,
Person,
Begins to meditate,
Repeat a mantra or watch the breath,
The Jew as a doer.
And as anyone who has meditated knows,
Sometimes when things are easy in your physical system,
You've had a good night's sleep possibly,
Your desires have been met,
Your preferences have been met,
You can very easily just sit and meditate and feel peaceful.
Other times when there are disturbing thoughts in your mind,
Some interaction with somebody was unpleasant,
You feel agitated,
You feel angry,
Then to sit and meditate,
Repeat a mantra seems difficult because you're not experiencing that peace that's promised to you in meditation.
So what is the solution?
Because we know the changing human condition is such sometimes up,
Sometimes down,
Sometimes things go your way,
Sometimes they don't,
Sometimes you feel easy to sit and meditate,
Other times your system is overly agitated from overeating,
Engaging too much in the senses or a situation that created some emotional reaction in the system that left you feeling agitated.
So we want to now have a different outlook,
A different perception in your meditation so that no matter what,
The meditation happens and you don't give it up because you know that without meditation,
That peace that is your own true nature,
That is your birthright cannot be experienced and you will continue to be a victim to the limited mind and emotions in human system rather than the expansion of the vastness of the whole,
Of that ever present being that didn't leave you in any of those states that you experienced throughout your 24 hour day,
That being that ever present reality is actually who we all are and then we begin to limit ourselves to an individual human existence in order to function in a society in a world but we become bound by it,
Forget our original source,
Our true nature that is forever present,
That is always peaceful,
That is always easy.
So now we can begin the meditation from a different perspective rather than from the perspective of I am an identified human being in a waking state sitting and trying,
Doing my best to meditate,
Doing my best to experience that peace that's been promised to me or that with my own direct experience I've sometimes experienced in meditation,
Rather than starting from that perspective,
We start from the perspective that I am meditation,
I am that ever present being,
It's only my mind that keeps me from knowing who I truly am because in deep sleep I'm knowing that.
So why now when I've woken up even though I've cancelled the dream and said that's not true,
Why am I believing that whatever's going on in my mind,
Whatever emotions I'm experiencing,
Why am I believing that that's my reality?
Why am I believing I'm limited?
Well the answer to that why question is because you're in the waking state and that's how the waking state functions.
But now in meditation we become aware that there's a fourth state,
There's a higher state of consciousness which means the attention can go to that ever present being and that ever present being will meditate you rather than you in the waking state trying to meditate,
Trying to find that peace,
Diligently repeating a mantra hoping that your attention will move away from all the minds,
Thoughts,
Tribulations,
Troubles,
Agitations and that you'll know I am immortal,
I am blissful,
I am pure,
Free forever.
So now we're starting from the premise that I am pure,
Free forever,
I am immortal and blissful.
So now when you sit down and you close your eyes in meditation,
Regardless of what the mind is focused on,
Regardless of what the body feels in that moment,
Relaxed or agitated,
Aches and pains or satisfied and easy,
Regardless of what the system is doing,
You start with the awareness of who you are that's free from the system.
You start with the awareness of ever presence,
That space that's there all the time at the back of all the thoughts.
The example is often given of a blank canvas and all the paint the artist draws or paints on the canvas and you can cover the whole canvas but the canvas still remains behind all the paint.
So you,
The ever present being,
Are forever there even though there's thoughts,
Even though there's agitations,
Even though there's joys that are happening in the human system,
That canvas,
That source,
That atma,
That self,
It's forever shining.
So rather than being the doer in meditation,
Trying to do your meditation from the waking state and with the mind trying to touch on that space,
Which isn't possible because the mind is a manifestation of that space,
Just like the sprout doesn't know the seed once it becomes a sprout,
Once you become a mind you forget your source.
So meditation is remembering that source,
Knowing who you are and that source then you know as everything.
So the mind,
The experiences,
The joys,
The sorrows,
The personal triumphs,
The tribulations,
Successes and failures,
It's all the manifestation of self but self is first and when you know self,
When you know ever present being,
Often we refer to that as the knower,
The one who just knows the pure knowingness,
Then you live the life as that great play of consciousness but you're not limited because the mind is small,
It's minuscule compared to the self.
So when you're identified as a mind in a body,
You become small,
You become limited into a waking state of consciousness where you're not free,
You try to seek freedom in your situations in life rather than knowing the freedom that you are already.
So now we start our meditation by knowing the freedom that we are already,
By knowing the knower,
By knowing the ever present space.
So how is this different?
As soon as you sit down and you close your eyes,
You just know that nothing is wrong because meditation is already there,
Knower is already present,
Ever present being is already present.
Whether the mind is agitated,
Whether the mind is easy,
Doesn't make a difference.
You are established in you ever present being.
The technique then becomes just a method to know that space of ever present being.
So when the mind moves towards all the thoughts and this is to be done and that's to be done and I should change this or I need to do that,
You just know that that's the working of the human mind,
Nothing is wrong.
That's what the mind does.
Just like you don't expect the ears to see or the eyes to hear,
You don't expect the mind to be any different.
That's the nature of the human mind.
So you accept it and know that although the mind might be screaming for your attention,
Telling you to get up and do something else or telling you that you are wasting your time or telling you that this is working or it's not working or you are not getting the peace or you are getting the peace,
Whatever the mind is doing,
It's a small part of your greatness.
So when your attention moves to the vastness or the greatness that you are,
Just like the sky,
Anything can happen in the sky.
Birds can fly,
Airplanes can fly,
Smoke can go into the sky,
But the sky remains sky.
In the same way,
The mind can be doing anything,
The body can be doing anything,
The emotions can be calling for your attention,
But you are sky,
You are ever-present reality.
So now in the meditation we start from ever-present reality MI,
Space MI,
Sky MI.
Not I as this body sitting down to meditate,
Trying to reach a meditative state,
Trying to transcend the mind.
There is no trying anymore because the ever-present reality is now and that's who you are and that's who I am.
And the vastness of your existence can be known just by closing your eyes because when you close your eyes,
You shut off the senses,
You shut off the external vision which is one of the major senses that sees forms.
So now by closing your eyes,
You're no longer going outward towards the forms and the play of consciousness into your life,
Into your world that you call you.
Instead you're closing your eyes and you're saying I am pure,
I am free,
I am forever.
So now you're seeing yourself as pure space,
As that vastness of all and everything else is a small manifestation of you.
You are not separate from anything,
From anyone because everyone is that pure,
Free forever being.
And when you meditate on that,
You know the whole,
You know the power,
The source of power where everything comes from.
So then again when you open your eyes,
Then your life will be directed from that source of power rather than from the limitations of your own waking state mind.
So this is the meditation.
It doesn't matter what's happening in the body or in the mind in meditation.
As long as you sit and know you are that ever-present being and let that space now meditate you rather than you as a waking state doer trying to meditate,
Trying to get the mind to know the space which isn't possible because the mind is a limited vehicle.
So now you know yourself as the ocean.
The mind is just the waves,
The thought or the waves in the ocean,
But the waves are the same water.
So you see any thoughts,
Any feelings,
Any physical sensations as that ever-present being in manifestation.
And now you can reside in the ever-presence that you are and just sit and meditate and watch how that ever-presence,
That pure consciousness meditates you because it is you and you're no longer identified now as the body or mind that you thought you were.
You're no longer that dream figure just like you were in the dream and you thought the dream was so real the tiger was chasing you and going to kill you,
But you wake up and realize there's no tiger there.
In the same way,
You realize that the mind that's trying to kill you is imaginary.
It's not really there.
You are space and the instrument you call the mind is there for you to use in any way that you choose.
You're no longer a victim to your mind.
You don't have to believe your mind when it's telling you something that's not beneficial to you,
That's not helping you.
You can know I am space and that ego mechanism that wants to be right and wants to overpower,
You just see as a limited instrument because you're already everything.
You're already that whole which is pure,
Free forever and nothing else is needed,
Nothing more,
No ego gratification will work to bring you that peace so you can release that ego,
That mind from its wanting,
From its craving,
From its needs to be powerful and know the power that you already are,
That forever is inside as the mantra is that name that you are,
That I am immortal,
I am blissful.
You can attend,
I am immortal,
I am blissful and then anything else that happens in your mind,
In your meditation,
In your body is never a problem.
You let it do its dance,
You let it do as it does just like in the dream state,
Your eyes are not seeing but all these forms appear out of space and then dissolve again into space in the same way in the waking state,
All the forms that you see,
That you believe to be so real and so true and all the situations to be so important even though we all know that a hundred years of human life in eternity is a very short time but we make it so real and so important and it is important because you want to realize your own true nature.
It's not important because you want to achieve this or that and have more success or name and fame that will never bring you total satisfaction.
It's important because you want to realize who you are right now,
Not at some time in the future but right now when you close your eyes and the senses are turned inward to that space that you are and you let that ever present space now meditate you and you sit for some time and as you practice you can sit 10 minutes,
15 minutes,
20 minutes,
Sometimes even an hour and just enjoy that bliss that you are and know from this power of your attention on that blissful ever present being your life.
When you come back into the waking state you'll know that fourth state that's permeating everything and enjoy your life.
Om Shanti Om Peace.
May this peace be with you always.
