Welcome to your grounding meditation.

My name is Tori Washington and I'll be your guide.

Go ahead and take the next few moments to set up your space.

So light a candle,

Some sage,

Whatever will make you feel most comfortable.

And then find your position of choice,

Either lying down flat on your spine or sitting upright in a chair with your feet grounded to the earth beneath you.

If you're lying down,

Allow your palms to rest to the right and the left sides of you.

If you're seated,

Place your palms to the tops of your thighs,

Roll your shoulders back and sit up really,

Really tall.

Begin to tune into the energy of your body by using your breath.

So we'll begin with the eyes closed.

And with your eyes closed,

See if you can soften the muscles that are holding your eyes.

As these muscles soften,

Feel the perimeter of your face relax.

Allow that relaxation to travel down the edges of your neck and across the tops of your shoulders.

Take a moment to completely surrender the weight of your body to gravity,

Allowing gravity to pull you closer to the earth,

Connecting you to the grounding energy within.

From this place,

Take a deep breath in through your nose.

Try to feel the lower part of your belly,

Ribs,

All the way to your chest.

Open your mouth to exhale and sigh all of the air out.

Right away,

Another deep breath in.

Open the mouth,

Exhale all the air out.

Breathe in fully from the base of your belly to the top of your throat.

Then exhale all the air out through your mouth to release.

At the end of your exhale,

Seal your lips.

Begin generating a steady and slow breath in and out through your nose.

As you begin to skillfully engage with your breath in a deeper way,

See if you can bring all of your attention to the length of each inhale and the length of each exhale.

As you slow down your breathing pattern,

You naturally begin to slow down the pace of your thoughts.

Let the intention of this meditation not be to get rid of your thoughts,

But to allow them to exist on a slow moving reel in the background.

The slower that you breathe,

The slower these thoughts begin to enter your mind.

So you can begin to choose which ones you will hold on to and which ones you'll let go.

As you begin to deliberately choose which thoughts will be a part of your meditation experience,

Continue deepening the breath,

Feeling and noticing the lower part of your belly inflate and expand.

Allow that expansion to travel up into your rib cage,

Across the edges of your heart and your chest,

Through the throat and up to the crown of your head.

Your exhales are grounding you.

You'll slowly observe the breath move back down from the crown of your head,

Out through the nostrils,

The throat,

Down the chest,

The ribs,

A gentle squeeze at the base of your belly as you push any last bits of air out.

Let the cycle begin again,

Taking a fresh breath in and a grounding breath out.

Feel the edges of your body become softer,

Less sharp,

Allowing your energy to fully engage with the present moment as it is right here,

Right now.

Sense the connection that you have to not only this vessel,

Your physical body,

But to the life force that flows within it,

The feelings and sensations that arrive once you slow down.

As you make the choice to stay present,

You're beginning to call back all of your power.

You're beginning to make the choice to stay,

To plant yourself,

To reconnect with your roots.

Imagine yourself on a patch of grass or somewhere in nature,

Where you can feel the wind across your face.

You can feel the back of your body connecting to Mother Earth.

As this connection deepens,

Envision yourself fully replenished as you release what's no longer serving you from your day out into the earth to be transformed.

And almost like you're plugging back in,

You're receiving all of the nourishment that you might have lost or let go of.

Your entire physical body glowing brighter,

Revitalized,

Open,

And fulfilled.

As you take deeper breaths,

Feel the energy of your inhale pull this nourishment in and allow your exhales to act as a cleansing release.

Take a few more breaths like that,

Breathing in the nourishment that you need to refuel,

Breathing out what you're ready to let go of,

What you're ready to transform.

Slowly begin to wiggle the tips of your fingers and your toes,

Coming back into your physical body,

Noticing the perimeter of your body begin to wake up.

Feel your eyes blink open to the room around you.

Before getting up,

Just take a moment to notice the shift that has occurred within you.

Feel your hand over your heart and make a commitment that this inner peace,

This grounding sensation,

Will keep it with you throughout the rest of your day and as you go into sleep.

What's to come after that fully serves you and your highest potential.

Take your time getting up,

Slowly allowing yourself to reemerge back into your day.

I especially enjoyed the metaphor of allowing our thoughts to become a slow reel in the background. I feel replenished and this will be a meditation I keep in my regular rotation.
