Hello,
Beautiful souls,
And welcome to this talk live on Insight Timer on why meditation doesn't work for most people and how to make it work.
My name is Tony Myers,
And I'm looking forward to sharing with you in this talk some of my amazing insights that I've discovered over the last 25 years researching the ancient techniques of the ancient yogis and the Buddhas,
And my journeys living in ashrams in India and studying with Buddhist monks around the world.
So if you've ever felt like meditation just doesn't work for you most of the time,
You might have read many books and listened to many guided meditations,
And you've sat silently just looking for high levels of inner peace and happiness,
But your mind just doesn't seem to settle,
And you might be wondering,
Is there something wrong with me,
And why doesn't this work for me?
And instead of peace and happiness,
You might be feeling frustrated and wondering,
Is there something more to meditation?
Well,
If that sounds familiar,
I want you to know that you're in the right place,
And I invite you to stay with me to the end of this talk because I'm going to share with you how to solve all of that,
And how to overcome the most biggest problems that many people face during meditation.
And I just want to say that these aren't hacks or anything like that,
They're timeless teachings drawing from the classical ancient wisdom texts that I genuinely believe that when practiced the right way,
They will change everything and lead you to higher levels of inner peace,
Happiness,
And liberation,
And that is my wish for you.
So before we take a deeper dive,
I just want you to know that I didn't always find meditation easy,
And I wasn't brought up in a spiritual family or anything like that.
As a matter of fact,
I spent years struggling,
Practicing meditation,
And really transforming my life,
And learning how to really manage and master my mind.
But I was determined to find solutions,
So I went on a journey around the world,
And I lived in ashrams in India and Australia,
And I learned from some amazing Buddhist monks in Sri Lanka and Thailand.
And what I actually discovered was that most meditation teaching methods actually skip over the essential techniques that were taught by the ancient yogis and buddhas,
And techniques that actually prepare the body and mind physically,
Mentally,
Energetically,
And assist you to go into higher evolved states of consciousness.
And that's why so many people around the world are challenged with learning meditation.
And in this talk,
I want to share with you how to overcome all of that.
Having said that,
Here are the four main reasons why many people struggle with meditation,
And it doesn't work for them,
And how to solve that.
Number one,
Most people have not been taught how to deeply relax the body and mind as a requisite for meditation.
Many people sit down and try to meditate without trying to settle their body or their nervous system.
It's important to understand that if you're in a fight-flight mode,
Or you're a bit tense or restless or overstimulated,
Your mind won't settle for no matter how long you sit if you don't create the right condition.
So to help you with this,
It's very important you practice the ancient technique called Pratyahara,
As described in Pantajalya Yoga Sutras.
Chapter 2,
Verse 54 and 55.
Pratyahara is all about withdrawing your senses away from the distractions of the outer world to your inner world,
So you can be guided into a very deep,
Peaceful state where it's very easy to manage your mind.
Once you practice Pratyahara,
You'll notice that your body and mind naturally relaxes,
Your breathing starts to slow down,
And your mind naturally becomes calmer and more peaceful without any force.
Pratyahara techniques is really the true starting point of meditation and deep,
Peaceful states of consciousness.
It changes everything once you practice this meditation.
The second biggest challenge many people have is that their mind is very overactive and stimulated and busy during their meditation,
And the key meditation technique to help you better to calm and manage your mind is practicing breathing techniques in your meditation practice the right way.
This is eludicated in both the yogic and the Buddhist traditions,
As the breath is the bridge between the body and mind and the key to calming the mind.
Many texts like the Hatha Yoga Pratipika teach specific techniques to regulate the prana and the life force within the body,
Because when we balance our energy,
The mind starts to become very peaceful and calm.
Therefore,
Practicing the breath the right way and practicing classical pranayama techniques as a prelude for your meditation,
You'll notice that you'll find that your mind becomes very calm and focused.
Therefore,
Practicing breathing techniques the right way during your meditation is the key to experience deeper inner peace and to balance and harmonize your mind,
And you'll notice that your thoughts will become very peaceful and calm during your meditation,
And you'll start to really enjoy your meditation practice.
So the third biggest challenge that many people have during meditation is that they haven't learned how to witness and manage their mind from high levels of wisdom and intuition.
And actually,
To make this challenge even worse,
Many meditation teachers just advocate and tell their students to just be and to stop their thoughts.
This actually leads to more frustration and tension.
But there is a solution,
And the ancient wisdom texts,
Such as the Upanishads,
Eludicate a meditation technique called Sakshi Dhyan Meditation.
Sakshi Dhyan Meditation is all about tuning into higher levels of wisdom and intuition,
To witness the mind and to understand the mind.
Instead of trying to avoid thoughts,
We witness the thoughts from what is called the Sakshi,
Which is the witness.
When we witness the mind from this wise,
Calm,
Peaceful state,
We start to purify the subconscious mind as a release,
And the emotional charge of past experiences that might be holding us back,
Start to dissolve and release.
This has a very powerful effect,
It starts to awaken full potential of your mind.
And as you practice Sakshi Dhyan Meditation,
You'll notice you become less reactive to things in your life that might have been bothering you and holding you back.
You become more emotionally resilient,
And you're able to meditate with deeper clarity,
And you'll notice your subconscious mind purifying,
Opening the full potential of your mind.
And then finally,
One of the other biggest challenges many people face with meditation is they haven't been taught step-by-step processes to connect with and tune into their higher self.
But the ancient yogis devised an amazing way to do this called Chittakash Dharana Meditation.
The Chittakash is a seat or the space of your individual consciousness,
And the word Dharana means concentration.
Once you learn how to practice Chittakash Dharana,
You'll notice you'll be able to tune into your higher self,
To materialize your goals and dreams,
Because the Chittakash is the key to creating a blueprint for your ideal reality.
As you learn how to practice Chittakash Dharana and tune into your higher self,
You'll notice you'll be able to powerfully visualize and imprint your goals and dreams into your subconscious mind,
Accelerating the manifestation of them into your reality.
Furthermore,
By practicing Chittakash Dharana Meditation,
You'll be able to foresee and to create your ideal future.
You'll notice that by consciously tapping into your higher self,
You'll be able to actively create your ideal future in your mind,
Leading the subconscious reprogramming and the materialization of your goals and dreams,
And you becoming the creator of your destiny.
So if you've ever been challenged with meditation,
I just want you to know that you just need the right tools and techniques that the ancient yogis and buddhas taught,
And this will help you to really prepare your body and mind for meditation,
To access higher states of consciousness,
To experience all the amazing benefits of meditation,
And to really enjoy your meditation practice and look forward to it.
