Bodhisattva geloften worden afgelegd door Mahāyāna Buddhisten die het boeddhaschap willen bereiken voor alle levende wezens. Shu Jo Mu Hen Sei Gan Do Bonno Mu Jin Sei Gan Dan Ho Mon Mu Ryo Sei Gan Gaku Butsu Do Mu Jo Sei Gan Jo. Vertaling: Levende wezens zijn ontelbaar, ik beloof ze te bevrijden. Verlangens zijn onstilbaar: Ik beloof ze te beeindigen. De poorten van de dharma zijn eindeloos: Ik beloof ze allen binnen te gaan. De Boeddhaweg is onbegaanbaar: Ik beloof deze ten einde te gaan. Bodhisattva vows are taken by Mahāyāna Buddhists who wish to attain Buddhahood for all sentient beings. Shu Jo Mu Hen Sei Gan Do Bonno Mu Jin Sei Gan Dan Ho Mon Mu Ryo Sei Gan Gaku Butsu Do Mu Jo Sei Gan Jo. Translation: Living beings are numberless, I vow to set them free. Desires are insatiable: I vow to end them. The gates of dharma are endless: I vow to enter them all. The Buddha Way is impassable: I vow to end it.
