Many people have experienced the benefit of acting on their intuition and following their heart.
Many people too will have said,
I wish I had followed my gut or that my heart isn't in it.
Neuroscientists are fast coming to the realisation about what is known and intuited by mystics and sages for thousands of years.
Our gut and heart have active mind centres which are in constant communication with our head.
Some of that communication is functional and will always be mainly beneath our conscious awareness.
Our gut tells our head when it needs fuel.
We interpret that as hunger.
Our heart is continually providing our brain with enough blood to maintain consciousness.
If another part of our body is in trauma or in more need,
This is why we can pass out.
But these mind centres do subtly more than that.
They are active in choices we make and they are always right.
As they operate ahead of time,
Learning to tune into their signals awakens and enhances another super sense,
Our ability to know something about the near future,
Slightly before it happens.
This is called precognition and it's a phenomenon which explains why we know who is on the phone before it rings and why our pets sometimes know we are on the way home.
The signals from our heart and gut are non-verbal and are often drowned out by our brain chatter.
And it's through meditation that we can open up a new dialogue.
So let's do this now.
So bring your attention to your breath and just observe it for the next five in and out breaths,
Where it's coming from,
Where it's going to.
Music With your eyes closed and your breath constant,
Move your awareness from the front of your head into your pineal gland,
Your third eye.
So you imagine you're looking at the back of your eyeballs.
Think of a decision you have to make right now.
And simply ask your gut whether you should move forward.
Ask it for a yes or a no.
If a yes comes in,
Then go ahead.
And notice how the yes or no comes to you almost as soon as you've finished asking the question,
If not a little before.
And if you've got a no,
Ask what would have to change for it to be a yes.
And notice how an answer comes to you straight away.
But also note as the gut is non-verbal and only speaks with a yes or no,
Or a stop or go,
The source of the answer is elsewhere,
Which we'll deal with in the next meditation.
So now let's move to the heart.
The heart again is non-verbal,
But reports to our brain with a level of how it's feeling.
It is either cold,
Lukewarm,
Hot or boiling hot.
So not in love with it,
Okay about something,
Liking it a lot,
Or totally in love with it.
So again think of a decision you have to make right now and consult with your heart about it.
If it likes it a lot,
Or is totally in love with it,
Move forward with gusto.
If it's cold or lukewarm,
Ask what would have to change for your heart to fall in love with it.
So this simple technique,
Which you may have heard somewhere before in my meditations,
Can be used always to make the right decision by getting our head,
Heart and gut in alignment and agreement.
Let's extend our super sense of precognition a little further.
You will find that our gut and our heart like to be asked,
And will look out for us as our wellbeing is their wellbeing.
They are keen to help us and keen to evolve too,
But we can entrust them with much more than decision making,
As their intelligence is deep and far ranging.
So with your consciousness still in your pineal gland,
Let it float down your brain stem a little,
And attach yourself to the vagus nerve at the bottom of your brain stem,
Which is the largest nerve in our body,
Which connects our brain to all lower mind senses.
So take a deep in-breath all the way from your root all the way up to your spine,
And a long out-breath down to your root.
And as you do so,
Allow your awareness to float down past your throat,
And to sit in your heart centre in the middle of your rib cage at the bottom of your ribs.
And now imagine that on your heart centre sits a six petal lotus flower,
Which will now imbue with qualities and values that will entrust and delegate to our heart.
On the first petal of the flower,
Place the quality of unconditional love.
On the second petal,
Add the quality of perseverance.
On the third petal,
Add the quality of consistency.
On the fourth petal,
Add the quality of connectivity,
Bringing likes together.
On the fifth petal,
Add the quality of harmony.
And on the sixth petal,
Add the quality of peacefulness.
And you can think of these petals as being radiators of these qualities and values.
And now let six new petals blossom out,
One each between each of the original petals.
And you can think of these new petals as being receivers of these qualities and values,
Continually accepting them into your world.
So your heart centre is always looking for examples of unconditional love,
Perseverance,
Consistency,
Connectivity,
Harmony and peacefulness in your world.
And will make your brain aware of them when it detects them on your behalf.
So now take a deep in-breath from your root up to your heart,
And a long out-breath down to your root.
And as you do so,
Allow your awareness to float down to your gut mind,
Which stretches either side of your navel from below your diaphragm right down to your root.
And imagine on your navel sits a fire-petalled lotus flower,
Which we will imbue with qualities and values that will entrust and delegate to our gut mind.
So on the first petal,
Add the quality of truth.
On the second petal,
Add the quality of being for the highest good.
On the fourth petal,
Add the quality of being for mutual benefit.
And lastly on the fifth petal,
Add the quality of keeping us on path,
Knowing whether we should turn left or right,
Stop or move forward,
Or do an about turn.
And again you can think of these five petals as being radiators of these qualities and values.
And again let a further five petals blossom out between these petals.
And think of these new petals as being receivers of these qualities and values,
Helping you continually accept these values and qualities into your world.
And your gut mind is now entrusted in informing your brain of when it sees examples of truth,
Of completeness,
Of being for the highest good,
Of being for mutual benefit,
As well as informing us of when we are on path,
And even when we may have strayed off it.
So as you go about your days,
Always be mindful that you have these two generators and receivers,
One sitting on your navel and one sitting on your heart centre,
Continually beaming out these qualities and continually accepting them in.
And when examples of these appear in your world,
Your gut and your heart mind will let your brain know about it.
So now let your awareness float back up the vagus nerve from your gut,
Into your heart,
Through your throat and into your pineal gland.
And let your awareness now blossom out,
Front and back,
Top and bottom,
Side to side of your brain.
And open your eyes slowly and come back into the room,
Knowing now you have a new relationship with your gut and your heart.
