When we as humans gained self-awareness,
Our front and cortex in our brain woke up and started talking in our head.
Most days,
This kind of self-talk starts up when we awaken and only abates when we fall asleep.
The internal commentary is often quite incessant and it directs how we act and how we respond throughout the day.
As a result,
The contributions from our lower mind centres in our heart and our gut do not often get a look in.
We can hear ourselves say things like,
I wish I'd trusted my gut on that one,
Or my heart's not in it,
Only for our head and ego to overrule.
This often ends up with us wasting time and regretting the course of action taken as a result of our head-based decisions.
From an evolutionary perspective,
Our gut and heart minds are much older than our front and cortex where we do most of our cognitive thinking and reasoning.
Neuroscientists have also detected activity in our lower mind centres several seconds ahead of our conscious awareness.
It looks like they operate ahead of time.
This near-field temporal precognition could explain why we know who is on the end of a phone just before it rings.
Our gut and heart mind,
Being somewhat older,
Are also somewhat wiser too.
Invariably,
They are always,
Always right.
But the loudness of our thoughts,
Both internal and verbalised,
Often drowns their message out.
When we get our head,
Heart and gut in alignment,
We become unstoppable and are forced to be reckoned with.
Our gut and heart minds love to be recognised and consulted with.
Being older and more primitive,
They do not speak in a language though.
Our gut speaks with a yes or a no,
Or a go or a no-go.
While our heart talks to our conscious mind in the form of a level,
It is either cold about something,
Lukewarm,
Warm,
Or positively on fire.
So what we need to do in order to always make the right call is to ask our gut and heart minds in turn for their opinion.
Bizarrely,
When you do so,
You will get an answer back a fraction of a second before you ask it.
If it's a yes,
Proceed with gusto.
If it's a no or a maybe,
Ask what would have to change in the situation so you get a green light.
This technique costs nothing to do,
But is quite possibly the biggest time saver there is.
