One of the biggest wastes of time can occur when someone makes us angry. Not only does affect our mood, and even our health, our productivity crumbles as we are not able to focus on the task in hand as the source of anger rages around our head and courses through our veins.

When someone makes a transgression against us,

We can hold a grudge against them for many years.

These types of grudges also scale up to whole communities,

Towns and even countries.

One of the biggest causes of anger is when someone hurts someone we love,

Or even just an ideal or a belief that we hold dearly.

It's natural that someone who wrongs us makes us angry.

They may have threatened us physically or verbally.

These days,

People can even get attacked virtually by so-called trolls on social media.

Where anger gets dangerous is when people take their anger out on someone other than the person who angered them.

Anger produces hormones like adrenaline and noradrenaline in our body to help us fight or flight.

This produces a natural high,

Which can actually be quite addictive.

As a result,

Some people thrive in generating antagonistic situations.

Buddha says,

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else,

But so you end up being the one who gets burned.

By not forgiving those that transgress against us,

We shoot ourselves in the foot.

Not only do we waste time and become unproductive,

But our blood pressure and heart rates rise.

Holding on to anger will eventually weaken our ability to fend off dis-ease.

So breathe in,

And breathe down.

So the next time someone or something angers you,

Here's how to reduce your reaction.

This is best done outside.

So breathe in deeply,

So your belly expands.

Then breathe out quickly,

As if you're blowing out a candle.

This energises the diaphragm.

Next,

Take a deep breath in,

Followed by an out breath which lasts 4 times as long as the in breath.

You can also make an ahhhhhh sound on the out breath.

Repeat this 3 times.

Repeat this 3 times.

This last step might sound illogical,

But it works.

Keep this breathing pattern going for 3 more times.

On the next in breaths,

Inside your head,

Thank the person who wronged you for annoying you.

On the next out breaths,

Forgive them,

And let your anger be taken from your body,

And allow it to float off in the wind.

And then just imagine what you can do with all that time you've got free now,

When you're not angry,

And not thinking about that person who did you some wrong,

Or that time that you embarrassed yourself,

Or when one of your loved ones was hurt.

Quick and basic anger release. What do we do if the person who angers us is our own self?

Wise words to live by. Since I began my journey on IT I’ve learned that I have too much anger within. Using breath work has helped immensely. Thank you 😊

I love that you gave advice on how to release the anger from our physical body. I think this will help more than just thinking about about letting go. Love the hot coal analogy. Thank you! 💙
