Conventional time management programs contain some great advice on setting goals and priorities,
And also how to handle interruptions.
It's said that every time we switch from one task to another,
We lose 5 minutes.
So just 12 interruptions a day would lead to an hour of wasted time.
It's conjectured that if you're not thinking of anything in particular,
Then somebody you know comes into your mind,
That in all probability they are thinking of you at that particular time.
The reason for this is that our brains are not just generators of thought,
But also receivers of thought.
Carl Jung,
And others before and since,
Postulated that we're all connected via a collective consciousness that stores all thoughts past,
Present and future.
This could be why the location of long term memories have proved elusive in our neurology.
It could also explain how luminaries like da Vinci had the prescience,
Or pre-science,
To sketch helicopters and parachutes.
Naturally,
If you're engaged on a creative project,
It makes sense to switch off your phone and log off from your emails and social media.
But as we're all tapped into the collective,
Then we could actually be inviting interruptions along by allowing our attention to wander.
Our loose thought forms can bizarrely appear in the minds of others and cause them to get in touch by phone or for them to wander into our office.
So if we want to enter the deeply creative zone,
What we can do is establish an interruption barrier that prevents our thought forms from leaking out.
So breathe in,
And breathe down.
Setting up an interruption barrier is quite simple,
But may need a little practice.
So before you embark on a creative task,
Find a spot on the wall about 6 feet or 2 metres away and stare right at it.
Then allow your attention to be aware of everything above and below and to the left and the right of the spot.
Hold this level of attention for at least a minute.
Then bring your attention even wider so you envision everything to the side of your head and above and below your body.
Hold this state for a further minute.
When you are nicely defocused,
Begin your creative task and if any external thought forms arrive when you are working,
Ask them internally to go away and come back when you've finished.
And if you want even more time dilation,
You can do several deep belly breaths while you are staring at the wall.
After just a few days practice,
You will find you are getting more done with less time.
