In this meditation, we will explore the Shaiva mantras for activating the chakras, these are different mantras from what you might normally know as the mantras of the chakras. They contain an extra sound without which according to the tantric tradition the mantras of the chakras are ineffective. Thus this meditation does not use LAM, VAM RAM, YAM HAM, or OM, But rather their tantric Version. Image by: Elina Sazonova

Welcome to this tantric meditation on the chakras.

You may have heard before that each chakra has a sacred syllable,

A bija mantra,

Which activates its energy.

If you are unaware of the sacred syllables connected with each of the chakras,

I invite you to check out my chakra mantra activation meditation,

Which you will find in the free tracks section of my profile.

The meditation that you are currently on is an advanced version of this meditation.

In the regular yogic tradition,

We find the following mantras associated with the chakras.

Lam for Muladhara,

The root chakra.

Vam for Svadhisthana,

The sacral chakra.

Ram for Manipura,

The navel chakra.

Yam for Anahata,

The heart chakra.

Ham for Vishuddha,

The throat chakra.

And normally either Om or Aum for Agnya,

The third eye.

While normally Sahasrara will not have a mantra,

Although sometimes Aum will be given for Sahasrara or Aha or Aham.

In today's meditation,

I will introduce you to a more secret form of these mantras,

Which is coming from the tantric tradition.

According to the Shaivite tantric tradition,

Without the ki given in this meditation,

The bija mantras of the chakras remains ineffective.

This ki is the adding of the sound H like an H in the beginning of each one of the mantras.

And so Lam becomes Hlam.

Vam becomes Vam.

Ram becomes Hram.

Yam becomes Yam.

Ham becomes Ham.

And Aum becomes Haum.

In this version of the meditation,

There is no reference to the Sahasrara,

The crown chakra,

As the syllable Haum will begin activating the Agnya and continue into the Sahasrara.

So let us perform the meditation for activating the chakras using the tantric Shaiva bijas of the chakras.

Find a comfortable sitting position.

The best is the Siddhasana,

Where the left heel is pressing against the perineum and the right foot is placed in between the left calf and the left thigh.

Slightly sitting on the left heel,

You can use a cushion under your buttocks.

This is the best posture for this meditation.

Otherwise,

You can sit in any comfortable cross-legged position or even in a chair.

Hold your hands in Jnana mudra,

Where the tip of the index finger is just underneath the tip of the thumb.

The three other fingers are together,

Stretched.

Your palms are on your knees,

Facing upwards.

Close your eyes and recall the location of the seven chakras along your body.

In the tantric tradition,

Where we encounter these specific mantras,

To reside along the central axis of the body,

Not in the front of the body and neither in the spine.

So imagine that there is a tube of light passing through the center of your body,

Starting from the top of your head,

Going through the middle of your head,

The middle of your neck,

The middle of the body that is right between the lungs and half the way between the front of the body and the back of the body,

And going down all the way to your perineum.

Along this central axis,

You will feel the vibration of each one of the mantras.

Hlam at the perineum,

Hvam behind the genitals,

Hram behind the navel,

Hiam in the center of the chest,

Hham in the middle of the throat,

And Haum in the center of the head.

With the emitting of each mantra,

Feel the vibration emanating from this level.

We will start by chanting vocally and conclude with chanting internally.

Since the emitting of the sound Ha requires more air,

I invite you to take as much air as you can,

Lifting the shoulders and filling your lungs.

And we will also do this meditation a bit faster to be able to do it in one breath.

Let's begin.

Close the eyes,

Take a deep breath,

Continue now in silence.

You can continue at the same rhythm,

Or you can do each enunciation of the mantra slower,

As you have no time limit of your air.

Continue internally in your heart for a few minutes,

And I will instruct us when to finish.

Finish the cycle you have started,

And then remain in silence for a little while.

Notice the vibrations along the central axis of the body,

The activation of all your chakras.

Notice how this vibration irradiates from the center of your body towards the extremities.

Notice the unique sensation in each one of the chakras,

And the shifting of your consciousness.

Take a deep breath,

And then gently and slowly open your eyes,

And try to notice if you have a change of consciousness,

A shifting of your perspective,

If the world seems slightly more alive,

Or more spiritual.

Let this newfound point of view,

A new activation of your being,

Accompany you throughout your whole day.

Until the next time we meet,

Namaste.
