Hi,

My name is Tim Mori and this is the Big Sky Meditation.

This is another one of my natural real world meditations and so it will include background sounds.

You may hear the wind,

You may hear the sea,

You may hear seagulls.

Use these sounds to reconnect you to the meditation and to help you to bring back your attention from your thinking that may happen.

That's okay.

But use these real world sounds to just connect your attention to now,

This material,

Physical moment where we can let go of thoughts and enjoy the peace that comes from them.

Today I am at the Berryhead Hill Fort in Brixton,

Devon in the UK.

It's a wonderful place.

The fort is surrounded in history,

It was built in the late 18th century.

And although it is mainly just ruins,

There's still the history of this place and the marvellous position that it sits on the end of the Berryhead.

Marvellous rugged coastline looking out into the English Channel.

Sharp,

Jagged cliffs straight down hundreds of feet down into the sea below that has timelessly existed alongside the cliffs and the fort.

The thought and before the fort was built and even today hundreds of years since the fort was unoccupied and finished with.

The sea and the cliffs and the sky all blend in together to form part of this magnificent landscape.

And today this spattering of clouds and blue sky and the wonderful sun is casting a fantastic shimmer across the sea.

As I'm sitting out looking out towards the expanse of the ocean and how it meets the sky.

And this meditation is really designed to help us to reconnect with big sky.

This is the space in our mind that is not weighed down by daily thoughts or things we need to do,

Things we need to think about.

Whether this will happen,

Whether that will happen,

Getting work done,

Responding to emails,

Texts,

Facebook messages,

Tweets.

It's this timeless,

Almost infinite expanse of sky that just by the sheer size of it alone we cannot comprehend its beginning nor end.

And these boundaries that seamlessly can't be imagined can somehow bring peace in a world where our mind likes to contain us into smaller spaces of work and daily problems.

So I just want you to just sit back for a moment,

Get comfortable,

Just find a comfortable position for you,

Where you can relax,

But remain alert.

Because meditation is not sleeping.

Meditation is not dreaming.

Meditation is about finding that space between the thoughts.

The space between leaping into the future and leaping into the past.

It's that space.

And some meditations have purpose,

Goals or outcomes.

But I think the best meditation are those that just bring that space,

That experience of no thoughts.

It took me some time to understand what no thoughts meant.

And it was listening to a philosopher entertainer called Alan Watts that mentioned that words form thoughts and thoughts are mainly words.

It's very hard indeed to not think in words.

And therefore,

The true state of thoughtlessness for me was experiencing no words inside my mind.

And I guess that when I was young,

Before I was building up words and sentences,

I guess that's a glimmer of maybe my thinking.

Was I completely absorbed in experience from my senses?

So as this meditation begins,

Let's be open to the experience of our mind empty of words.

So take a nice deep breath in.

Let it go.

And perhaps take another one.

Fill your stomach with that clean air.

And then just let it go.

We can always use our breath to anchor ourselves into this moment.

And without judgment,

Without focus or expectation,

Just allow your mind to go with the flow of the sounds that you hear now as part of this recording.

Fill your mind's senses with the big sky above.

The sky that has no ending,

No beginning,

The vastness of it.

I mean,

If any thoughts as words or crop up,

Then just let them go.

As if you might a wispy cloud in the summer,

On a light breeze,

Just momentary appears and then just wisps away.

Letting go of all judgment or attachment.

Just as you can't hold on to a cloud.

And you know that it will change and move away.

It's the same for your thoughts.

As they arise,

Just let them go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just focusing on the big sky and our mind without words.

And when it's time for us to end the meditation,

My voice would gently bring you back.

Let's take a nice deep breath together.

Fill your mind with the big sky and let it go.

And let's enjoy this meditation together.

Just as you can't hold on to a cloud.

And let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

Just let it go.

And we'll spend some time now,

So as we start to end this meditation on Big Mind,

We need to just sow some seeds to help us with our practice.

A wise person once said that you cannot smooth the ocean by trying to flatten out the waves.

And that is very much the case with the mind.

Trying not to think,

Stopping thoughts are all a bit like trying to smooth the ocean.

The most successful way is to practice,

Allow whatever happens in the mind to pass without judgment or attachment and just to allow the ocean of your mind to calm.

And by practicing with this meditation you'll notice more and more positive effects on your mind and your daily living that will help you to retain the Big Sky approach,

Will help you to deal with any actions you have to take,

Any decisions you need to make from having this Big Mind,

Big Sky perspective.

Let's take a nice deep breath in to reinvigorate ourselves,

Filling our belly and then letting go and then moving around just a little bit gently and slowly,

Maybe a gentle stretch and another breath in,

Fill our lungs with crisp air and relax.

Thank you for joining me on this meditation and I look forward to meditating with you real soon.

This is a lovely gentle meditation that paints a beautiful picture in the minds eye. Despite what some reviews say I think the narrative at the beginning sets the scene and is well paced.. Bookmarked! ๐Ÿ™
