Diving Deep
How can we work with the moon, especially the full moon in Scorpio, during times of upheaval, crisis, and unraveling? How can we do this through our meditation practice? The energy of Scorpio is not only known for its intensity but also for its ability to transform - if it has the time to witness and observe that which we often want to hide. Pull up your cushion, take a seat on your couch, chair, or floor. Meditate with me.

Hi everyone,
It's Tiffany here and it's great to be with you in this moment.
I hope that you and all of your loved ones,
Family,
Friends are safe and well during these times.
I wanted to touch base with you because we are in the full moon in Scorpio.
I've been pretty silent over the past couple of weeks I would say,
Yeah,
For about a month almost when it comes to my meditations.
But I really wanted to hop on because the full moon in Scorpio is,
Well any full moon is really significant for me and in my personal life and my personal practices and I think they're significant for all of us even if we don't recognize it.
Scorpio in particular has a special place in my heart because I have,
My moon is in Scorpio and I have close relationships with my siblings and other friends.
I have a lot of friends who also either have a sun or a moon in Scorpio and so I feel like the energy is very palpable for me on a pretty consistent daily basis.
So when the full moon is in Scorpio I feel like those of us who have pretty major Scorpio placements on our charts,
The full moon in Scorpio makes those of us with that placement feel a little bit more supported,
More understood or more seen because everybody's feeling a little bit of the energy that we feel on a pretty consistent basis.
So let's talk about that energy for a second.
So the full moon in Scorpio is described as intense by a lot of astrologers.
The astrologers that I've been working with thus far are Chanie Nicholas as you all know,
Yasmin Baland is also an astrologer that I have been working with and then I've also been working with Corinne Joss and so those are the three astrologers I've been working with thus far and they all kind of talk about Scorpio as a sign that's represented by intensity and depth.
It's represented by energy that wants to get to the depths of who we are and what we feel and what we're thinking.
It wants to peel back all the layers and it wants to get to quote unquote the bottom of it,
Whatever it is,
Right.
I remember I was listening to a lesson that Chanie Nicholas once offered.
It was probably about a year and a half ago,
Maybe two years ago.
Yeah and she said something about Scorpio that really resonated with me.
She said you know if you think about the ocean and the layers of the ocean and how the deeper down you get into the ocean the darker and the murkier that water is.
You know when you get to that really dark,
Dark,
Dark part of the depths of the ocean and it's like really it's really hard to see and there's a lot of you know there's a thicker material maybe like a muddier type of material down there and it's really,
Really deep.
That's a symbol,
A symbol of good representation and an accurate representation of the energy that Scorpio represents,
The energy that Scorpio brings us.
And what's interesting about this energy it's its level of comfort in the deep dark places.
It's an energy that asks us to see and to witness the parts of us that we may typically like to hide.
It's a part of us or it's energy that asks us to see and witness the parts of ourselves that we may not like,
That may paint us as somebody who was flawed which you know spoiler alert we all are and so it also helps us to see parts of ourselves that help us be more whole and more human at the same time.
And it's energy that doesn't necessarily that doesn't necessarily ask us to fix whatever we notice right away.
Quite the opposite actually this energy that's represented by Scorpio is actually energy that is really,
Really good at sitting in it and peeling back and witnessing really observing anything that's in those deep dark places that exist in all of us and that exists in every structure of society as well.
Any nation,
Any organization,
Any workplace has those deep dark places and the energy of Scorpio really wants to dive into those deep dark places of any of these structures in any of us people.
At the same time it's a sign that is really in its energy that is really,
Really gifted at healing.
And I'd like to believe so this is one of the epiphanies that I had about Scorpio as I prepared for this meditation is that you know Scorpio is known the energy is known for being you know really strong powerful for like lots of force in their healing.
And I've realized and wondered if you know if the the level of healing that that Scorpio energy brings us is directly correlated with the amount of time and the amount of energy it's it's willing in and that it's committed to give towards sitting with and in the deep and dark places and not running from it right away like actually sitting in it.
So I've been reading this book called Radical Dharma talking race love and liberation.
And it's been really insightful and I'm just at the beginning and the first couple of chapters but in the in the introduction the authors talk about how you know to be radical means to witness and to transcend the structures that we're in.
But they say that in order to actually change or transcend the structures that we're in or to change and transcend or to heal parts of who we are to become more whole we have to what they say is what we have not learned to do is to give ourselves the space and time to simply observe it as it is to make friends with it.
So whatever that is that's in us that makes us feel uncomfortable that we don't like that we have it's really radical to sit with it because we as a society especially in the United States we don't learn from the time we're little to the time we're adults we don't it's not common to learn how to sit and observe something that we don't like it's more common to learn how to quickly begin to fix to you know we go as soon as we notice something we fix it and what they say is that in this book the authors say that the only way that we can make a change the only way that we can transcend transform heal and come into the fullness of who we are is to quote observe the construct that we're in instead of trying to tinker with it right away with the same blind spots that we came to the problem with they say we're trying to evade the grief and trauma and we don't even know what it looks like we don't even know what it really feels like and so the question that comes to mind for me is are we trying to evade grief trauma pain and joy so quickly that we don't ever really have a sketch of its face and that we wouldn't be able to spot it in a lineup if we were able to how can we heal from something how can we change and transcend something if we haven't observed or witnessed or truly felt what it brings to us our meditation practice helps us to build a container so that we can feel all that it is that's in those deep and dark places and I think it's a practice I know it's a practice that can also lend itself for this type of full moon in Scorpio where we're being asked to build a container to hold and to witness and to observe the deep and dark emotions in mindfulness meditation which is what we're going to do today it asks us to build a container by being present by noticing witnessing seeing that thought and then that thought and then that thought noticing that feeling and that emotion and that and that inclination and instead of changing it pushing it away acting like it didn't exist or being mad at ourselves and mad at reality it asks us to witness ourselves with as much kindness as we can to offer ourselves as much kindness and understanding as we can and as much gentleness it invites those those those softer kind of approaches to being with ourselves to being with our deep and dark places and those soft those that that you know softening that that meditation and ask us and invites us into is actually what helps to build a strong and integrous container so we'll go ahead and get started with our meditation if you're seated on the ground come into a comfortable seat you can have legs crossed or I can be stretched out make sure that your hips are elevated so that your knees are just slightly below your hips make sure that your knees aren't feeling any pain and place any blankets or bolsters underneath your knees if you need to if you're sitting on a couch get comfortable you can have your feet planted on the earth or you can just prop your feet up and lean back into the back of the couch same thing if you're in the bed let your hands rest somewhere comfortable and together as a group we'll close our eyes if that feels okay for us on today otherwise we'll keep our if that doesn't feel comfortable you can take a soft gaze towards the ground and together let's take a deep breath in through the nose exhale release the breath with the side good again take a deep breath in through the nose exhale release the breath with an audible sigh return to the pace and the natural rhythm of your breath noticing the inhales and the exhales here begin to notice where your seat meets the earth or the bolster blankets couch bed whatever structure is beneath you just notice where your body meets that which is holding you up here and let that which is holding you up in this moment be an example of a container that holds that which we are which is mostly water which is also what the element of Scorpio is is water and so allow this practice to become the similar to the container that which is holding you to become a container for all of you the clear water and the muddy water begin to scan your body all the way so you may begin to lengthen through your spine reaching through the crown of your head and invite the muscles in your face to relax the muscles in between your eyebrows and your jaw you might swallow to also relax the throat and bring your shoulders up back and draw them down allow them to release any tension that they're hold that they've been holding continuing to breathe here allow the belly to be full and to be soft and allow your legs to over time gently relax and to give way to gravity so together we'll sit and we'll meditate which is basically a fancy word for coming home to ourselves witnessing our thoughts and our emotions and not pushing them away being kind and gentle with ourselves in the process as we sit in silence for the next five minutes the invitation is to continue to stay connected to the inhales and exhales of your breath if the breath is a comfortable anchor for presence if paying attention to your breath is not comfortable you can place your hand over your heart and notice where the skin of your hand the flesh of your hand meets the center of your chest let that be what you continue to return to over and over and over again you'll have thoughts and you'll have emotions and you'll notice them you'll say to each one I see you thank you thank you for showing yourself to me and after that after you notice each thought you'll return back to whatever anchor of presence fits your practice in this moment be that the breath and noticing the inhales and exhales or be that touch noticing where your hand is touching your body be that sound noticing what you hear whatever your anchor for presence is no matter what it is the invitation is to continue to come back to it over and over and over again you Mmm.
