Wash Your Impure Thoughts Away This meditation was inspired by my visit to the steep and narrow Black Canyon of Gunnison,

Colorado.

As I stood at the roaring river at the foot of the metamorphic rocks,

While studying the mountain's dense and intricate design,

I looked up and noticed a tree.

Not just any tree,

But a vibrant forest evergreen tree.

Nothing surrounding,

It receives its energy and life force from the mountain and the water from the snow trickling from the summit.

The water and the tree became symbolic of my ability to cleanse my thoughts,

My mind every day,

So I can be rooted and grow spiritually along the journey.

I want to become the pristine source within myself that takes on many names.

Consciousness,

The Divine,

God,

Source,

The Atman.

Everything else is nothing but a detour.

The tree reminded me how I long to realize who I am.

We all have impure thoughts.

It's part of being human.

If you struggle with impure or non-divine thoughts,

This meditation is for you.

A meditation to help you wash away the residue and complexities of life,

And whatever it is preventing you from realizing who you really are.

This is not a meditation on positive thinking.

This is an acknowledgment that life is hard.

Life is often unfair.

It is largely unpredictable.

Yet living in the ebbs and flows,

Living in the rich experience of life,

Is uplifting and something to be grateful for.

You are here now,

And that is something to be grateful for.

You have asked important questions such as,

Who am I?

What is my purpose or dharma in life?

Who or what governs me?

And who or what governs it all?

Be grateful that you have arrived.

Be grateful that you have asked these questions.

Be grateful that you are here.

So for this meditation,

I ask that you take a different seat,

A seat of gratitude.

Please start out by sitting on your shins and knees if comfortable.

If not,

Please be seated in a chair.

Thighs together,

Hands placed down upon your lap.

Start to direct your mind toward your heart center and allow your hands to form prayer mudra at the center of the heart.

Take a deep breath.

Inhale and exhale.

Inhale,

Exhale.

On the next inhale,

Go deeper,

Directing the breath to the crown of the head as we inhale.

As we exhale,

We are going to allow the breath to flow back down and extend through our belly.

Again,

Inhale to the crown of the head and exhale to the belly.

One more time,

Inhale deeply to the crown of the head.

Exhale to the belly.

Allow the breath to remain in the belly,

Noticing the belly rising and falling as you breathe normal and inhale and exhale without altering the breath.

The belly is simply rising and falling.

With every inhale and exhale,

With every breath,

You are granted,

You are gifted with the power to cleanse yourself.

Close your eyes and feel that power.

Feel your power.

Feel yourself bathing away all that is preventing you from realizing your true essence,

The divinity in us all.

As your eyes are closed,

Just notice your breathing.

With each breath,

You are washing away impure thoughts,

Thoughts that harm others with words or deeds.

You know that by harming others with these thoughts,

You only harm yourself.

With each breath,

You wash away fear.

This world today or tomorrow cannot scare you.

The fear tactics of those near and far don't have the power to handicap you.

They don't have the power to shrink you.

They don't have the power to silence you.

You,

My love,

Have a divine purpose.

Nothing or no one shall stand in your way.

Fear not.

You know there is a season and reason for everything.

Fear not.

With each breath,

Wash away hate.

My brothers and sisters of various hues,

Whose background and culture varies,

Hate not the one who is seemingly different from you.

Judge one not based on worldly and man-made constructs,

But instead with an open heart that judges based on character and one's desire for truth.

With each breath,

Wash away pretentiousness.

With each breath,

Live in your truth as truth is your most satisfying desire.

No need to impress.

Find rest in your breath.

Find rest in just honoring who you are and how far you've come.

There is no measure for self-love and acceptance.

Just be it.

Fill the love and appreciation for yourself with each breath.

Feel gratitude for who you are and what you have come out of to be here now.

With every breath,

Wash away competitiveness where there is none.

Not every encounter is a sport.

Be inspired and be an inspiration on one's path to abundance,

On the path to selflessness.

For everything you give shall be returned to you tenfold.

Breathe away all these things that no longer serve you.

Breathe away your impure thoughts.

Bring your palms to the center of the brow,

The third eye,

And allow your head to bow in reverence slowly.

Repeat after me.

I give my attention only to pure thoughts,

And I let the impure ones pass on by.

I give my attention to only pure thoughts,

And I allow the impure ones to pass on by.

I am loved.

I am safe.

I am one with everything.

I lift up others because doing so fulfills and uplifts me.

I accept and love myself,

Not for what I have,

But for who I am.

And who am I?

Who am I?

Who am I really?

I am not my thoughts.

I am not my flesh.

I am not my persona or the roles I play in life.

I am not the things I possess or the accolades I have achieved.

I am divine consciousness.

I am the pristine source.

I am the Atman.

I am Aum.

And may my thoughts,

My words,

And my actions or deeds rest in this.

Asatoma Sat Gamaya.

Tamasoma Yorter Gamaya.

Mrityor Ma Amritam Gamaya.

Aum Shanti,

Aum Shanti,

Aum Shanti.

Lead me from ignorance to truth.

Lead me from darkness to light.

Lead me from death to immortality.

Aum Peace,

Aum Peace,

Aum Peace.

Namaste.

Namaste.
