Just like the world,
We as humans are in constant flux.
Change is a constant in our lives as we cyclically move through different seasons of our life.
In today's meditation,
We will be working with embracing change.
As you take a moment here to get into a safe and comfortable position,
I want to take some time to honor and recognize that uncertainty is a natural part of change where there can be a lot of fear associated,
Whether that be related to the uncertainty or perhaps related to what might be lost or left behind,
Or we could also have fear associated with past experiences,
With change.
And when I speak about embracing change today,
It's not meant to bypass these feelings of fear or uncertainty,
But instead is just a momentary switch of perspective,
Reminding you that we can honor and hold space for those feelings associated with the fear and uncertainty at the same time.
By now I trust you've found a comfortable position with your spine straight,
Whether that is seated or laying down.
If you haven't already,
I invite you to allow your eyelids to close,
And if it feels good,
Inviting you to place one hand on your heart and one on your belly.
Let's begin by taking a few deep conscious breaths here as you settle into your body.
On your next exhale,
Allowing your muscles to relax,
Releasing any tension or gripping in your jaw,
In your shoulders,
In your abdomen,
All the way down through your body to your feet.
And with your next exhale,
Allowing your mind to settle.
As you rest in this stillness,
Bring your awareness to the present moment.
I invite you to notice the sensation of your breath as it enters and leaves your body,
Feeling the rise and fall of your chest or diaphragm with each inhalation and each exhalation.
Let your breath be your anchor,
Grounding you in the here and now.
And when you're ready,
Focused in on the present moment,
I'll give you some time to observe the sensations that are present in your body.
You can scan through,
Starting at your crown,
Just taking a mental note without judgment as to any feelings or sensations that are here.
And as you've scanned through your body and have a baseline or an understanding of what's present,
I'll invite you to drop in the question,
What does change mean to you?
Reflecting on this concept of change,
Perhaps taking a moment here to acknowledge the changes that have occurred in your life,
Both big and small.
Considering how these changes have impacted you and the ways in which you have adapted in response,
There's no need to search for an answer,
But allow yourself to be curious as thoughts enter your mind,
Allowing yourself to observe them without judgment and then mindfully taking a moment to scan back through your body,
Noticing if there's been any change in the sensations that are present.
When you're curiously sitting with these changing sensations in the body,
You are actively embracing change.
Embracing change requires us to let go of attachment to the past and open ourselves to the unfolding of the present moment.
Now shift your focus to your breath once again.
And with each inhalation,
Set the intention to invite a sense of acceptance and openness into your being.
And with each exhale,
Allowing yourself to release any tension or resistance you may be holding on to.
Openness and acceptance in,
Tension or resistance out.
Openness and acceptance in,
Tension or resistance out.
Openness and acceptance in,
Tension or resistance out.
Openness and acceptance in,
Tension or resistance out.
And once again,
I'll bring you back to an awareness of your full body,
Perhaps starting at your crown and scanning through.
As you meet a sensation in your body or in your energy field,
Wherever they may be for you,
Take a moment to observe them.
As you're observing one or multiple sensations,
Take note if any of them start to transform.
Perhaps as you sit with them,
They become more intense or maybe becoming less prevalent and even fading away.
I invite you here to embrace the impermanence of each of these sensations.
And as you do,
Recognizing that change is an inherent part of life.
And as you breathe in and out,
Embracing the impermanence of each moment and each breath.
As we near the end of this meditation,
Take a few moments to simply sit in stillness,
Embracing the ebb and flow of your breath and that ever-changing nature of existence.
Returning your attention to your breath,
If your mind has wandered.
And when you're ready,
Gently begin to deepen your breath,
Consciously bringing more air into your lungs,
Filling your belly and exhaling fully,
Wiggling your fingers and your toes,
Bringing your awareness fully back into your body.
And as you're ready,
Slowly opening your eyes.
You're welcome to remain connected to this sense of openness and acceptance as you continue with your day.
Thank you for joining me in this meditation practice on embracing change.
