I invite you now to join me in a time of prayer and meditation.
Go ahead and close your eyes.
Let your body relax.
If there is any part of your body that feels tense or uncomfortable,
Very gently direct your attention there.
And simply hold the thought.
Relax.
Be at peace.
Be ever so gentle with yourself.
Be ever so gentle with your body as you practice this time of relaxing.
Let your body relax.
Remind yourself that each breath that you take,
You can breathe in the peace of God and that each time you exhale,
You are able to let go of anything that you need to release.
Continue to allow your body to relax.
And now direct your attention to your mind.
You might want to imagine that your mind is like the surface of a pond.
That surface can be smooth as glass.
Or it can be very rough.
Practice for a moment how the surface of your mind appears to be.
Is there a lot of mental chatter going on?
Are there many worrisome thoughts crossing your mind?
Do you find your mind drifting to the things that need to be done?
All of that activity causes your mind to be turbulent.
Try instead to simply notice what crosses your mind without becoming attached to it.
If a troublesome thought does cross your mind,
Try silently saying something like,
Hmm,
Isn't that interesting?
And then just as easily as it came in,
Let it go right out.
Very gently hold the vision of your mind becoming still and quiet.
The mental chatter being turned down.
Your thoughts becoming fewer and farther between.
During this meditation we're going to practice together.
Becoming more open to God's guidance.
And so for the rest of this meditation I'd like you to imagine that my voice is your voice.
That my words are your words.
I am open to spirit.
I am ready to listen to spirit.
I am ready and willing to listen to spirit.
I know that there is only one mind,
Divine mind,
God mind,
Universal mind.
I remember that I have access to that one mind.
And that I access that one mind through the practice of prayer.
I remember too that there is always a way.
There is always an answer.
Even when I don't know the way.
Even when I don't know the answer.
I let go of any struggle or strain.
I am willing to let God show me the way that I might be divinely guided in my life.
I practice right now being as open as I possibly can.
I am open because I want my life to work better than it has been.
I am open because I know that God intends for my life to work.
I am open because I know that God is absolute good.
And that God loves me unconditionally.
And so as I remember that,
I find it increasingly easier to be open,
Responsive,
And obedient to God.
I am willing to let God's will be my will.
And I am willing to listen for and to the voice for God.
I am willing to listen for and to the voice of God.
I know that God's voice is oftentimes a sense,
A feeling.
I practice paying attention to that sense,
That feeling,
That hunch.
I know that at other times,
It is as if God is speaking through my thoughts or through even an audible voice.
And I also remember to keep open and aware because sometimes Spirit,
God speaks through others.
And so now I call to mind a particular situation in my life in which I want to be divinely guided.
And as I call that particular situation to mind,
I ask this question,
Holy Spirit,
What do I need to remember?
As I hold that question,
I am able to remember.
As I hold that question,
I listen patiently.
And I pay attention to the ideas that cross my mind and heart.
I pay attention to the subtle feeling.
What is it that I need to remember?
And next I ask,
Holy Spirit,
What do I need to do?
Again,
I listen and I wait patiently.
Holy Spirit,
What do I need to release or change?
Holy Spirit,
What do I need to release or change in me or in my life?
What do I need to release or change?
And I listen.
Again I am patient.
And finally I hold the question,
Holy Spirit,
What's my next step?
Holy Spirit,
What's my next step?
Holy Spirit,
What's my next step?
And again I listen and I am patient.
There is only one mind.
And I am one with that one mind.
Through prayer and meditation,
I access that one mind and all the wisdom it contains.
As I continue to develop my relationship with God,
It becomes easier and easier for me to recognize the voice for God.
And so I honor the guidance that I have received by following it.
And because I am a beloved child of God,
I know that I move forward from here toward ever greater good.
I expect only good.
I know that good is on its way.
And I can feel my life moving forward,
Unfolding in divine order.
And I am so grateful.
I am so grateful.
So now as I release this time of prayer and meditation,
As I make the choice to follow the best guidance that I have received,
Knowing that with each step I take,
Another step will be revealed.
I am thankful.
And so I bring my attention back to this time and place.
And I am ready to greet the rest of this day with love,
Joy,
And enthusiasm.
And so I say silently,
Thank you,
God.
Thank you,
God,
For your guidance.
Thank you,
God,
For your activity in my life.
I greet the rest of this day with love,
Joy,
And enthusiasm.
And so it is.
Amen.
