The second week after surgery or a medical procedure may bring small progress alongside lingering fatigue. This meditation is inspired by practices that supported me after a hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. While not specific to any procedure, it offers gentle breathwork centered on the affirmation “I can”, with support and self-compassion. Sending wishes for healing and kindness toward yourself.

Hello and welcome,

This is Teresa Ann,

Inviting you to participate in week two post-op,

Days seven through fourteen.

Some of you may have had surgery,

A medical procedure,

Or healing from physical or emotional pain,

All are welcome here.

As I reflect on my week two post-op,

I notice slight changes in my recovery from total hysterectomy.

I was able to sleep on one side with support,

Walk outside,

Enjoy a holiday with the help of my husband,

My sister,

My cousin,

And my sons.

By the end of the week,

I was walking on flat ground,

Two and a half miles outside.

In the beginning of the week,

I was able to make breakfast.

By midweek,

Lunch,

And by the end of the week,

Make myself breakfast,

Lunch,

And dinner.

Reflecting on the idea that this is just a season and not a sentence,

I'm going to invite you to get into a comfortable position,

Whatever that might mean to you.

Perhaps having both feet on the ground,

Sitting in a chair,

Maybe lying on a couch,

Or lying in bed.

And as you're sitting comfortably or laying comfortably,

Just noticing how you're breathing.

Not worrying how to breathe,

Your body knows how to breathe.

Just noticing the sensation.

As you're noticing your breath,

Thinking of the idea,

I can with support.

You can do many things with support,

And this is a week to focus on that.

Perhaps you can take your hands and put it in an area that needs healing,

Or over your heart.

And we'll take three anger breaths together.

I'll invite you to take ten breaths on your own,

And three together again.

Not worrying if the mind wanders.

When you notice it wandering,

Welcoming it back to perhaps the healing process.

The understanding of,

I can with support.

If you're sitting up,

Alert but not stressed,

Perhaps bringing your shoulders up,

Back,

And around.

If you're comfortable,

Close your eyes,

Knowing you can open them at any point.

If your eyes are open,

Perhaps have a soft gaze in front of you.

And we'll take three breaths together.

We'll breathe in,

1,

2,

3,

4.

Breathe out,

And before you open your eyes or lift your gaze,

Thinking you can be compassionate to yourself,

You can be compassionate and a rock star at the same time,

Thinking of something you're truly grateful for today,

Someone,

Someplace,

Or something.

Breathing in,

Opening your eyes or lifting your gaze,

And thinking about the words from Ram Dass,

We are all just walking each other home,

Hoping this five minutes pause will help you through your second week of healing.

Best of everything.

Thank you for joining me.
