With the current events quickly creating new paradigms in our daily lives, such as social distancing, the stressors on us are changing and new. This meditation is meant to help encourage the listener to build their skills of centeredness and calm, while also empowering their abilities to 'be there' for those around them. In a time of stress, the action that may speak loudest is the ability to absorb information calmly.

Hi,

This is Connor Logan,

Doctor of acupuncture and Chinese medicine,

Accompanied by composer Trevor Wayne Howard.

It sure has been a trying week and the recent events have us all on edge.

It's totally understandable to feel nervous,

To feel anxiety,

And to feel concern for those within your household and those around you.

Take a deep breath and don't feel bad about feeling however you feel at this time.

In Chinese medical philosophy,

They would say the proper expression of emotions in the moment is healthy and is necessary for healing and for proper emotional and energetic alignment.

But at this time,

Perhaps what those need around you is a calm and authoritative leader.

Someone who demonstrates through action that they're thinking clearly and with a measured response to news,

To what's going on around them,

And to what's going on inside them.

We are all part of families in some way.

There's the typical way of being part of a normal family,

Being a mother,

Being a father,

Being a child.

But there's also the family of the neighborhood around us,

Or of just simply being a citizen of your country.

And I think all of us can understand the importance of resiliency,

Of weathering the storm in a calm manner,

Of being the person that your neighbor can look to for a calm,

Kind word,

That your spouse or partner or child can look to for guidance,

To see an easy smile of,

Yes,

It's tough,

But we will get through this.

And why not be that person?

We are unsure of what will occur,

But that's okay.

We have great advice all around us,

And it is our job to ingest quality information.

Put it down when it becomes too much and focus on those around us,

On being there for them,

And also encouraging them to be there for us.

We all need each other.

So take a deep breath in through your nose,

Deep into your belly,

And let your shoulders relax again.

Breathe deep in through your nose and into your belly,

And let your shoulders relax.

You certainly take a lot on to those shoulders,

Don't you?

Don't we all?

Breathe in again,

Deeply,

And it feels good.

And relax your body down.

Continue to breathe easily and think of those around you.

What does it look like when they smile?

What does it look like when you say good morning to someone?

How do you feel when the sun breaks through the clouds?

Breathe in these positive,

Simple feelings as you allow your body to relax.

Clear your mind and focus on what's good.

And prepare to come back to your normal state with a kind word for someone,

A kind action for another,

And a calm mindset to receive information.

Listen to this as often as you need,

By yourself or with others.

Be well and think softly.

Stay strong,

Don't drink much.

Believe in yourself.

While I know this meditation was written for the COVID pandemic, it is equally apropos for October, 2025, especially for those in minority, marginalized, & oppressed communities. Thank you! It brought me a sense of peace and hope that we will get through what's going on in the world today. I'll come back to it as often as needed.
