It's time to challenge your breath with Breathe to the Beat! After the success of my past breathwork sessions, I wanted to bring you a whole series. In this breathwork session, you'll be doing 3 rounds of breathing using two styles of breathing, Breath of Fire and Alkaline Breathing. You'll be invited to hold your breath for 1 min, 1 min 15, and then 1 min 30. This is one part of a bigger series with 3 beginners, 3 intermediate, and 3 advanced sessions. Try them each out as you progress with your breathwork.

Yo,

Welcome to Breathe to the Beat.

We've got two types of breathing we're going to do today.

Kalabhati breathing,

Forceful exhales through the nostrils,

Sounds like this.

And then we have alkaline breathing,

Deep inhale through the nostrils and exhale through the mouth.

You're going to do both of these breathings to the beat.

We're going to do one round Kalabhati,

Then alkaline and then a mixture of the two.

Stick with me,

Stick with the beat,

You'll be totally fine.

We're going to have a nice little breath hold after each one.

Get ready,

Kalabhati breathing.

Here we go.

All right,

You get the idea.

Just using that diaphragm to really force that exhale out.

Sounding good.

All right,

So you got the hang of that now.

It's probably waking you up.

It's quite a lot of work here.

But as the diaphragm warms up,

You're going to make it easier and easier for yourself.

Okay,

In a moment,

We're going to switch to double speed.

So get ready in three,

Two,

One.

In three,

Two,

One.

Good job.

Keep it up now.

Yeah,

You see this is the big move between beginner and intermediate.

All right,

Good job.

Not much more left.

And then we're going to have a nice long breath hold.

So get all those breaths in now.

Here we go.

Three,

Two,

One.

Exhale out straight into that breath hold.

And now a big change between all that activity to now just chill.

Just let your body do what it's made to do.

And just be aware if there's any tension in your body.

That's going to use up valuable oxygen.

So relax all your muscles.

Just imagine you're floating in space.

And these breath holds are a great time to really tap into your experience and make them mindful.

Get curious about your own existence.

Really close now.

Recovery breath coming in in three,

Two,

One.

Hold and enjoy.

After you exhale out,

We're coming into alkaline breathing.

That's your breath out.

Get ready.

Alkaline breathing.

Here we go.

Good job.

Remember,

Inhale through the nostrils.

Just let that air fall out through the mouth.

Exhale out through the nostrils.

Be sure to take big breaths,

Even though they're quite quick.

Nicely done.

Same deal in a moment.

We're going to switch to double speed.

All right,

Here we go.

Double speed coming up.

Three,

Two,

One.

Let's go.

Nice.

You got this.

Got to make those lungs work.

Don't worry if you're getting lightheaded,

But if you are,

Make sure you're seated.

There's going to be lots of changes in the body when you breathe like this.

All right,

Get ready.

Deep inhale.

Exhale straight into that breath hold.

Slightly longer now.

Not by much.

Just enjoy the music.

Enjoy the peace.

If you get that urge to breathe,

Can you just hold off just for a little bit?

Can you experience what it's like just not to react immediately?

Of course,

If you need to breathe before,

Give the cue.

Totally cool.

You'll just come back tomorrow and try again.

It's the beauty of another chance.

All right,

Get ready.

Recovery breath.

Hold that.

Enjoy it.

Switching up to our last round after you exhale,

And that's going to be a mixture of the two we've just done.

All right,

Get yourself ready.

Back to Kalabhati breathing.

Here we go.

Get that rhythm.

Enjoy that rhythm.

Enjoy that rhythm.

Nice work.

Yeah,

You see,

You got this.

Going to switch up to double speed.

Get ready.

In three,

Two,

One,

Let's go.

Work that diaphragm.

Switching up next to alkaline breathing in the same round.

Here we go.

Ready?

Let's go.

Focus on those breaths.

Make them big.

All right,

Double speed coming up.

In three,

In two,

In one,

Let's go.

That's it.

Almost there.

Deep inhale and exhale straight into that breath.

Hold last one together.

Enjoy it.

What can you notice going on in your body right now?

Can you feel your heart?

Can you feel the blood pumping through your veins?

Can you feel temperature change?

Or maybe some tingles?

Almost there.

Last 10 seconds.

You got this.

Recovery breath.

Well done.

Sweet taste of victory in that breath.

You smashed that.

Enjoy this breath.

Enjoy what it's doing to your body and your mind right now.

And exhale out.

Good work.

That's all we have time for.

I hope you enjoyed this.

Be sure to check out my other breath work practices.

We got more just like this.

We also got an advanced section.

So if you think you're ready to increase that breath hold,

You're welcome to go there.

But if you found this too hard,

Also we have beginner stuff.

So I got you covered in all directions.

I can't wait to see you again.

Until then,

Have an amazing day or night.

Down with Doug saying peace out.

These are so fantastic, Doug! Just working my way up to this intermediate. This music is my favorite of your breathing to the beat (I have previously been regularly doing your beginner session that uses this music). Thank you for creating these, Doug! Namaste!

Love, love, love dancing and breathing! This was definitely more challenging than the beginner's exercise. The breath holds defeated me and I did get a bit light headed during double timed breathing. Still, I made it through and will keep at it daily. I suppose I might do better if I didn't dance at the same time, but what would the fun be in that?! That music speaks to my soul and insists on joyful movement. Thank you ๐Ÿ™
