Our overthinking mind can derail our productivity, our calm and inner peace. Even when I set aside time for stillness, a barrage of thoughts may wash me out to a sea of worries, concerns, and — "wait, did I turn the stove off?" This meditation is designed for you to find a bit of stillness in the "busyness" of your mind. The more you practice it, the more benefit you will receive. I do hope it is of great benefit to you. Hello and welcome.

My name is Lizzell from The Eternal Tarot.

Today's meditation will help you detach from your thoughts so you can ease into this divine space that is the true you.

An important concept of mindfulness is recognizing that you,

At your core,

Your soul,

You are separate from your thoughts.

The things that you think about are simply not who you are.

It is important to remember that you are not your thoughts,

You are merely the observer of your thoughts.

That can be an incredibly powerful recognition.

Knowing this mind is simple fact can allow you to choose to give energy to the thoughts that truly serve you and that serve you well.

By knowing that you are not your thoughts,

Knowing that you are not your thoughts,

Knowing that you are not your thoughts,

Knowing that you are not your thoughts,

Knowing that you are not your thoughts,

You can choose thoughts that bring you joy and help you create a life that you love.

Also,

To detach from your thoughts,

You can choose to let negative thoughts pass right through you.

These thoughts that don't serve you well or make you feel bad or sad,

Unhappy in some way,

You can allow them to pass through you so they don't take root within you and bring you down.

So let's practice together.

I am going to guide you through a visualization that will allow you to practice detaching from your thoughts so that you can connect deeply to yourself without their interference.

And also,

You will be able to see the power of choosing your thoughts and your thoughts also.

You will be able to see the power of choosing your thoughts wisely.

Bringing yourself into a comfortable position,

Either sitting or lying down,

Please close your eyes.

Take your attention inward.

Feeling your breath move in and out of your body.

And just stay here in this space for a while.

Not thinking about how you are breathing or what is happening while you are breathing.

Just watching and observing and just being aware of what is happening.

And just stay here in this space for a while.

Not thinking about how you are breathing or what is happening while you are breathing.

Just watching and observing your breathing.

Inevitably,

Thoughts arise.

Maybe it's a single thought.

Maybe it's a thought and maybe you notice that that thought deepens because you have some emotion behind it.

Or maybe it's like a whole bunch of thoughts.

Each thought coming down one after the other fast paced.

Maybe they make you feel a little anxious.

No matter how you are experiencing your thoughts right now,

Just notice them.

They are there.

They are in your mind.

They are begging for your attention.

Now I want you to identify one thought in particular.

Maybe it's a visual of a recent experience you have had.

Perhaps it's a thought about things you need to get done or you haven't done.

Maybe it's a worry that you have.

It may be a memory that makes you happy.

Whatever it is,

Identify that thought.

And then you can imagine the thought floating above your head.

It might be in the form of words or a picture or even a little movie.

See that thought floating above you.

Imagine that thought floating above you.

Imagine that thought floating above you.

Imagine that thought floating above you.

Imagine that it becomes encircled within a bubble.

A floating bubble encapsulates that thought as it hovers over your head.

Now notice you as the observer of this thought.

Take a moment to recognise any emotions that may be connected to this thought.

You may feel happiness,

Stress,

Sadness,

Fear or love.

And I want you to keep watching that bubble as it becomes infused with the emotion.

When you are ready,

I want you to silently say,

I release you.

I release you.

And send the bubble away.

When you are ready,

I want you to detach from that thought.

You don't have to follow it.

Watch it disappear into the distance and observe that you are still here.

I'd like you to continue this practice for the next minute or so.

Identifying any thought that comes up by placing it inside that bubble above your head.

Infuse it with any emotion that goes with it.

And then,

When you are ready,

Releasing that bubble.

And then,

When you are ready,

Release that bubble.

And then,

When you are ready,

Releasing that bubble.

Now if you notice the thought is a good one,

One that makes you feel at peace or brings you joy,

I want you to place that bubble in an imaginary basket right beside you.

If the thought is not a good one,

That causes you stress or anxiety or brings up negative emotion or causes you just to feel awful,

I want you to watch that bubble float away and dissolve into the distance.

Detach from your thoughts.

If you find yourself getting lost in your thoughts or losing this vision I have presented to you,

Just quietly come back to your breath,

Recenter yourself and start again.

Now bring your attention back to your breath,

Feeling the cool air come in and the warm air breathed out.

Look at the basket beside you.

No matter if it is overflowing with good thoughts or there is only a single bubble inside,

Just take a moment to feel really grateful for all the thoughts,

All the experiences and feelings that are here next to you in your basket.

But you are not those thoughts,

They are external to you.

They are just like clouds in the sky.

You can observe them but you do not have to be attached to them.

You are in charge of your life.

By noticing your thoughts you put yourself in the wonderful and powerful position of observer and the observer gets to choose what suits me,

What does not suit me.

The more you practice this,

The clearer you become,

The less anxious you become,

The more inner peace you will feel.

This was wonderful. A tangible way to actually navigate it. I love listening to a good talk about overthinking, but this was results oriented. Much gratitude

This might sound silly but from listening to this wonderful meditation, it reminded me of the Monkees song, “Take a Giant Step”(outside your mind). This meditation certainly helped me to do this, even though I couldn’t find any happy thoughts. Thanks!
