Based on the teachings of Adyashanti, this practice can be used alone or as a companion to his writings on "the direct way" of awakening. This particular practice draws from his teachings on "The Silent and Knowing Quality of Awareness: Your Fundamental Being." It invites you to explore the deep silence that shines as the true nature of your being. There is nothing here that you need to figure out or make happen. Let go of all effort and rest in awareness. As you do this, notice that awareness is naturally and already present. You might picture yourself as a mother tenderly holding a sleeping child. You are the mother and the child, awareness at one with itself. I hope you enjoy.

Hello,

Friends.

This is a little mini practice on your fundamental being,

The silent and knowing quality of awareness that is your fundamental being.

So,

Begin by taking a moment to collect your attention and notice the quiet space in which thoughts come and go.

Settle into a sense of ease and relaxation.

There's nothing you need to do or make happen here.

Simply notice the spontaneous rhythm of your breathing.

Invite yourself to become acutely aware of who or what it is that is aware.

Notice that it's not your idea of yourself that's aware,

But rather it's awareness recognizing itself as awareness,

As your fundamental being.

Notice that outside of thought,

There is no you who is aware in direct experience.

The me is a mental inference.

It's a conditioned and faulty conclusion.

Notice that awareness,

Or you could say your being,

Is inherently self-cognizant and recognizes itself as awareness.

This feeling of self-cognizant knowing is the essence of recognizing yourself as awareness.

When the self-cognizant aspect of awareness awakens from identifying with the dream of thought,

You spontaneously disidentify with the psychological self and realize you are the open and clear space of awareness.

You are a field of awareness.

This is the essence of awakened awareness.

This is true freedom.

No need to force anything.

Just rest in the awareness that you are.

Be well,

My friend.
