This meditation will give you an opportunity to stabilize your mind,
Relinquish the inner chatter,
And let your heart and your mind come into some coherence.
That kind of coherence leads to a sense of peace and clarity,
And clarity enables us to respond to our lives not reactively,
But wisely.
Eckhart Tolle often distinguishes what he calls the little me,
As opposed to the deep I.
I like the pronoun I,
Not the eyeball.
Little me is the part of you that runs around on the surface of life,
Fulfilling your obligations,
While the deep I is your soul essence.
In this guided visualization,
You'll have a chance to leave behind your little me for a while,
In order to spend some quality time with your deep I.
So begin by finding a posture that is comfortable for you,
Where you can feel upright and regal,
Relaxed but also alert,
With your heart area open.
And begin by calling to mind a simple intention for this meditation.
It could be to find some inner calm or clarity,
Joy or freedom,
And then picture this intention fulfilling itself in a specific moment in your day.
It could be as simple as waking up tomorrow with a different feeling,
Different than your usual default emotion.
So bring that up clearly in your mind,
Yourself in that moment,
Feeling whatever it is you wish to cultivate,
And then let the intention go.
And take a few moments to gently bring your attention to your breath.
Enjoy a few full,
Complete inhalations,
And longer,
Slower,
Relaxed exhalations,
Letting go of any old,
Stale energy you've been carrying from the day,
And bringing your attention to the little gap between the inhalation and the exhalation,
And between the exhalation and the inhalation,
That little beat,
The pause between breaths.
And let your mind fall into the quiet of that gap,
And enjoy the stillness there.
Feel your breath move all the way down into your lower belly,
The way you might notice a sleeping baby's belly rise and fall with each breath,
Completely relaxed.
And if your mind wanders,
Simply notice and gently return to the breath,
No judgment,
Letting yourself become very relaxed,
Very still,
Right here,
Right now.
No need to move,
Just relaxing into the stillness.
However the breath flows is fine.
Let it come and let it go,
Without any resistance.
Let it fall into its own natural rhythm.
And with each breath,
Let the thinking process move down with your breath into the lower belly.
Resting in the breath.
Now picture yourself moving down a long tunnel or hallway filled with sheer,
Colorful veils,
Like curtains you pass through as you walk.
The hallway is luminous,
As if lit from within,
Very beautiful and inviting.
You pass through each sheer veil,
Feeling the beautiful silk brush your skin.
The further you walk,
The more luminous and saturated the colors.
As you pass through each veil,
You leave behind some aspect of your little me,
Leaving behind your obligations,
Your thoughts and ideas,
Your worries and concerns,
Letting each beautiful veil peel them away.
You're moving down this hallway toward the chamber of your deep eye,
Your pure essence,
As if descending from your brain down into your precious heart area.
Leaving behind the surface level of your life,
The room that you're in,
Your ideas about who you are,
Letting your profession get peeled away,
Your nationality,
Your circumstances,
Your age,
Your gender,
Even your name.
Gently leaving behind all definitions of yourself,
Opinions,
Wants,
Ideas of being right or wrong.
If you feel resistance or this feels uncomfortable to you,
Don't worry,
We'll all be there when you return,
But you'll no longer need to confuse it for who you are.
The little me is constantly changing,
Your ideas change,
Your body changes,
Your age,
Your circumstances,
But the deep eye never changes.
My love,
You exist prior to all those definitions.
Keep walking,
Enjoy this beautiful tunnel,
Thoughts may come and go,
That's fine.
Let the veils gently whisk them away.
As you near the end,
A doorway appears,
Very beautiful and serene.
You feel a great sense of peace emanating from it,
Expansiveness,
A quality of love.
You step into this chamber and find it is made of pure light.
Inside it is so still,
Saturated with beauty,
Saturated with love.
Your soul essence resides here,
And its space is boundless.
It may feel confusing at first to step out of ideas of who you are,
But the more you visit this place and rest here and enjoy its beauty and serenity,
That sense of peace will begin to permeate your daily life.
You will know how to respond to life's challenges wisely and compassionately out of this core center,
This knowing of who you are.
So rest in the presence here,
My friend,
The stillness,
The no-thingness of your own essence.
In this space,
Awareness is present.
Awareness is hearing these words.
Awareness is feeling what you feel,
Noticing what happens when you feel into your deep eye.
And if you don't feel anything particular right now,
That's fine.
With time and trust,
You will begin to feel how deep your deep eye goes.
It's deeper than being a something or someone.
Feel how it has been there all along,
Deep in the core of your being,
Always present,
Always there for you.
Now take a few moments to rest here,
To ride the waves of your breath,
To feel the warmth,
The light of your own being.
To sit in stillness with this silent,
Aware presence.
To rest in love.
Know that you can return to this place anytime in meditation or in the midst of a day,
Connecting to its serenity with a single breath,
Connecting to that stillness,
The love that is the core of your being.
Trust it.
Return to it.
Drink from it.
May all beings taste their true essence.
May they be safe and protected and free from inner and outer harm.
May they be happy and contented.
May they be healthy and whole to whatever degree possible.
May they experience ease of well-being.
May you,
My friend,
And your loved ones and all beings be happy.
May all beings be at peace.
May all beings be free.
