This is a practice for offering sacred heart space to anyone in your life that you're worried about who may be suffering mentally or physically or in any way cut off from themselves.
It's very painful when someone we love is suffering.
The meditation teacher Adyashanti says this about offering sacred heart space to our loved ones.
When someone is suffering in life,
It's easy to view them through the lens of incompleteness.
But by holding them in our hearts and minds as whole and complete,
While not denying their struggles,
We don't fall prey to our unconscious negative projections affecting them.
We need to see through appearances even as we wisely and compassionately deal with appearances.
And so in this practice,
We will offer that compassion to our loved ones.
This could be someone in your life you're worried about,
Or it could also be an animal.
It could be a landscape.
It could be the planet itself.
So begin by finding a posture that's comfortable for you.
It helps to have sort of regal,
Dignified,
Upright posture with your spine erect,
Your heart space open,
But also relaxed and at ease.
And beginning with two or three full,
Complete breaths,
Just really filling up your lungs and completely letting go,
Exhaling all of the old stale air out of your lungs,
Full gliding inhalations,
Slow,
Complete exhalations,
And bringing special attention to the little pause between the top of the inhalation and the exhalation and the beat at the bottom of the exhalation before your longest draw in breath again.
Just letting yourself fall into the silence in that space,
Relaxing into it,
And then letting your breath relax into its own natural rhythm,
Not controlling it at all.
And now in your mind's eye,
Seeing your loved one,
Picturing them vividly in your mind and noticing how they appear to you,
Noticing their expression,
Their posture.
Where are they in space?
Notice how they exist in your mind's eye at this moment.
And now inviting yourself to see through their affliction,
To set aside the lens of their affliction and see through that,
See through the veil to their wholeness and completeness,
To the true essence of who they are,
The vitality,
The brightness,
The beauty of their being.
Without denying what they're going through,
Seeing through it to the purity of the person they are.
Because when you can begin to see them this way energetically,
They're more able to see that in themselves.
Even just by you doing it here quietly by yourself,
Ripples out to help them to feel that in themselves,
To feel their wholeness,
Their completeness.
Trusting that it's there no matter how hidden at this moment it may seem.
And bringing a small,
Gentle smile to your lips as you experience them this way,
Whole and complete.
And picturing now a beam of light coming down through the crown of your head,
Warm,
Glowing light,
Gently filling you down through your face,
Your eyelids,
Your lips,
Your neck,
Warm light filling your whole body,
A beam of white light connecting you from the sun above to the core of the earth below.
Letting that white light pour into you.
And now bringing your awareness to your heart center,
Acknowledging the human heart,
Your heart that's full of emotion and worry for your loved one.
Bringing compassion to that heart and moving awareness to your deeper heart,
The back of your heart,
The sacred heart that connects us all.
The deep space at the back of your heart that is never disturbed.
And letting the light fill that space too.
Letting that light marinate there and warm,
Letting your own heart bring warmth and glow to the light.
And now opening the door of your heart,
Opening your heart door and letting the light move out of your heart.
Now in rainbow colors,
A beam of light from you to the person you love,
The person you're worried about.
The person you wish to offer your sacred heart space.
And without any attachment to outcome,
Without any expectation of what will be next for this person with full radical trust with their own journey wherever it must take them.
Letting this light from your heart envelop them.
Letting that beautiful rainbow light encircle them,
Penetrate them with warmth and love and healing.
Feeling the current of white light moving in through the crown of your head down to your heart and out to your loved one in rainbow colors of healing.
Bathing that person in loving kindness,
In compassion,
In tender awareness.
You may have thoughts that come and go,
That's fine.
You can't do this wrong.
Just focusing on the image alone is enough.
The image alone is healing.
Letting the white light move down from the crown of your head out through your heart.
Feeling its healing energy in you,
Feeling how whatever it is your loved one struggles with,
Whatever they suffer from,
Feeling that part of you that also struggles in the same way with the same thing some other way perhaps part of you that also understands that suffering.
Letting the healing light penetrate there too.
Feeling any old unwanted energy,
Old narratives,
Old projections about ourselves or a loved one.
Feeling them drift out now through the bottom of our feet like gentle puffs of paper and paper.
No longer needed.
It was this healing energy pouring into the top of our head as white light out through our hearts,
This rainbow light wishing for a loved one that they may be safe and protected.
May they be free of harm.
May they be happy and contented.
May they be healthy and whole to whatever degree possible.
May they be free.
May they experience ease of well-being.
And offer yourself the same prayer.
May I be safe and free and protected from inner and outer harm.
May I be happy and contented.
May I be healthy and whole to whatever degree possible.
May I experience ease of well-being.
And now gently letting the light go quiet,
Coming back into our heart.
Gently closing the door knowing that it's always our choice when we open our sacred heart space to another.
It's our choice.
So closing the door for now until next time.
Feeling the lingering vibration of the light in our body like a string on a musical instrument.
Letting the vibration linger and fade and offering thanks for this opportunity to heal and be healed.
Relinguishing all expectation of outcome.
May all people who worry about their loved ones find peace.
May all of us who worry about our loved ones find happiness.
May all of us who worry and those we worry about,
May we all find freedom.
