Greetings,
My friends.
The following meditation is based on one offered in Adi Shanti's audio book called Guided Meditations.
And it is a counterpoint to an earlier meditation on abiding in the divine ground of being or pure potentiality.
He calls both of these meditations not so much guided meditations as meditations of evocation.
The idea being that you just relax into the words and see what the words evoke in you.
Begin by allowing your body to relax into a comfortable position at rest with your heart area open.
Allowing awareness to sink from the mind down into the body,
Into the cells,
Into the sinews of your form.
Realizing how allowing awareness to sink deep into the body is a way of inviting relaxation.
Relaxation into the body,
Into form.
Allowing the breath to gently deepen,
To find its fluid natural character,
Not trying to force anything.
Realizing that the breath is always there like a ballast in the bottom of a boat that keeps you in equilibrium.
If you ever get lost in a meditation or in life and you begin to experience something that's uncomfortable for you,
You can always root your attention back into the breath,
Into the quiet of the breath,
The fluid stillness of the breath,
Letting it anchor you once again into that inner resource of calm and peace.
So vital.
The words in this meditation come from the state of being they describe.
They're meant to evoke a deeper experience of being from you.
Simply relax into an open meditative state and see what the words stir in you.
No need to try to guide your own experience.
Simply allow your experience to unfold naturally.
You can't do this wrong.
Listening to the words the way you might listen to raindrops on a window or the sound of a breeze blowing through leaves,
Listening in a wholehearted but completely relaxed way.
Listening not only to the words but the spaces between them,
The interludes of silence between each raindrop.
There are two ways that our conscious experience unfolds.
One is the mode of perceptions,
What you are hearing right now,
What you are feeling and sensing,
The thoughts that arise and fall away,
The whole realm of experience that we call form.
Form is that which we know,
The sound of the raindrop,
The sound and the quality of this voice right now.
Whatever you experience is in some basic way known.
So take a moment to acknowledge the known,
The felt,
The seen,
The heard,
Even the subtle forms of the known like a thought or a sensation.
The other way that our conscious experience unfolds is the unknown.
The dimension of consciousness that is beyond form,
It is the awareness of form.
In this moment,
There is the awareness of this voice,
My voice speaking to you.
There's the voice which is the form and then there is the awareness of the voice.
You can't see or touch the awareness.
You can't grasp the awareness like you can grasp form,
Like you can grasp a thought or a feeling.
So allow yourself now to evoke the unknown,
That field of awareness,
That silent spacious view of awareness.
The field of awareness that is always naturally present.
Not the same as focused attention,
Attention that you intentionally direct at something.
This awareness is more fundamental.
It's a field of awareness that always is,
Even before you try to be aware.
It's just that the being only being that it is reflected by that everything that we find in ourselves is already so focused on the Noticing now how the awareness becomes conscious of itself.
Acknowledges its own existence.
Yes,
There is a field of awareness here.
It's known.
It acknowledges itself.
Letting go of all attempts to understand or conceptualize,
Just directly encountering this vast field of awareness.
The more deeply you move into your intuitive capacities,
The more you notice ever the more you notice ever more subtle levels of awareness.
That deeply unknowable realm.
It has a quality of darkness.
A quality of a void.
But it is not void of life.
Not void of cognizance.
It is the dark,
Deep,
Divine ground within you.
Letting yourself go.
Letting go into that ground.
Not asking what it is or why.
Just touching upon the unknowable,
The dark face of God.
Beyond the realm of description.
Touching upon the ground of your being.
The realm of infinite mystery.
Simply allowing these words to evoke in you.
Whatever experience of the divine ground you are ready to experience.
Not forcing anything.
Relaxing into your experience.
Realizing it.
Knowing that there is no final experience of this realm.
There is no definitive experience.
The divine ground is infinite.
Ever unfolding.
It is the dark eye of eternity.
The dark eye of infinity.
And now noticing how that ground,
That mystery beyond being and non-being,
Arises as a seamless unity right into the entirety of your human experience.
Each in-breath right now arising from the unknown.
Each in-breath with its origin in this divine ground,
This dark face of infinity.
With each breath,
That ground moves into form,
The form of breath.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Each breath arising from nothingness and pouring itself back into nothingness.
Each sense experience.
The feeling of the chair or the cushion beneath you.
The temperature on your skin.
The sound of the rain arising from this dark divine ground.
Every experience,
Every perception has its roots in this dark face of infinity.
And this deep mystery within you.
Every experience,
My love,
Arises from that ground.
Every heartbeat.
A seamless continuity between that deep ground of silence and your physical form.
They co-exist.
Your experience of being seated right here,
Right now,
With these words in your ear,
Seamlessly connected with that deep well of mystery.
Arising from it and returning to it.
Allowing your awareness now to move into your form.
Awareness of your body,
Of your breath,
Of being physically present here and now.
As you bring your awareness into your physical form,
That deep mysterious ground of your being is still completely present.
Form and formless as one.
Everything is lost.
That deep divine ground of your being arising and appearing in experience as muscle,
As your bones,
Your blood.
That deep divine ground arising as this particular human incarnation called you.
Having this simple,
Seamless connection between your human form and your divine ground.
They are not two different things.
They are one continuous unfolding of the moment,
Of this moment now.
They are one continuous unfolding of the moment.
They are one continuous unfolding of the moment.
This is a conscious experience of the formless ground arising back into form,
Into awareness,
Becoming aware itself in one seamless unified whole.
Before we draw this meditation to a close,
Allow your eyes to gently open.
Gently flutter open your eyes and let the world of form come in.
Allow your eyes to open,
Noticing the seamless and continuous connection between the deepest hidden dimension of your own divine ground and the world of form,
Of sight and sound.
The human form that is sitting in your chair or on the floor.
That human form that is completely at one,
Seamlessly present with and as the divine ground of your being.
There is no separation.
And so,
My friend,
Allow all of yourself,
Your body,
Your mind,
Your spirit to receive this knowing,
This knowing of the seamless presence,
The seamless connection between the formless and the world of form,
The known and the unknown,
The divine ground arising and appearing as this moment and every moment.
Receive this knowing.
Bring it into your heart.
Bring it into your day.
Your physical form and your divine ground are one.
May all beings be happy.
May all beings be at peace.
May all beings be free.
May all beings be happy.
May all beings be at peace.
May all beings be free.
May all beings be happy.
May all beings be at peace.
May all beings be free.
