Hello friends,
Sleep and the liminal spaces between waking and sleeping are very fertile for accessing our inner wisdom.
In many ancient traditions,
Monks,
Yogis,
And shamans were dreamers of worlds.
Through the calm clarity of their minds,
They brought order out of chaos.
They dreamed worlds into being.
In the Himalayas,
These dreamed realms are called Pure Lands or Buddha Fields.
In the Andes,
They are called Espiritu Pampa,
The Fields of Spirit.
These places exist outside of ordinary time.
You can visit them in meditation or in dreams.
They are landscapes imbued with light and harmony where consciousness can expand and deepen.
Traditionally,
These realms are guarded by fierce deities,
Like gargoyles,
Who keep out anyone ruled by fear or violence.
But once you've crossed that threshold,
You can sit at the feet of your inner guides,
Of ancient masters,
Even future teachers.
Because in these places,
Time doesn't flow as it does here.
This realm that we're talking about is the kingdom of God,
And as Jesus said,
The kingdom of God is within you.
And you can access this realm any time in the course of your day when you're completely and radically present.
And you can also access these places in deep sleep.
So as you ready yourself for sleep tonight,
Set an intention.
Say aloud or inwardly,
In whatever words she'll write to you,
Something like,
Tonight in my dreams,
I will visit the fields of spirit.
I will experience the kingdom of God within.
I will experience the Buddha fields or the Pure Lands.
Or for you,
Perhaps,
It's a place of complete namelessness,
A realm that defies any label.
And in this space,
You can set an intention to ask a question of your inner guides,
Or maybe simply to sit with them in their great silence.
So in whatever words feel right to you,
Go ahead and say your intention inwardly or outwardly.
And once you have incubated your intention,
Completely let it go with no attachment to outcome and no expectation of how such an outcome might look.
Because any expectation would only limit what's possible.
So completely release your intention.
Maybe it will happen tonight.
Maybe another night.
Maybe you'll remember your experience.
Maybe you won't.
Simply set the intention and release it like a bird from your palm,
Trusting that the message will be delivered.
And then invite yourself to relax into deep restful sleep.
Letting yourself be deeply comfortable in your space.
Cozy and at ease.
Releasing any tensions in your body.
Releasing any tensions in your mind.
And to bring your heart and your mind into deep rhythmic coherence for sleep.
Picture with each breath,
With each inhalation,
Your heart rising up to meet your mind.
And with each exhalation,
Your mind falling into your heart.
Inhaling your heart up to your mind.
Exhaling your mind down into your heart.
Surrendering your mind to your heart center.
Surrendering your mind to deep restful sleep.
And with great gratitude,
Allowing your body to rest.
Sleep well,
Dear one.
