Inspired by Adyashanti, this meditation invites you to rest in the paradox of "being" and "becoming." It encourages you to bring the energy of the spiritual heart into your conversations and interactions throughout your day. It can be used alone or as a companion to Adyashanti's "Direct Way" teachings. I hope you enjoy it. Audio by Eric Fischer.

Hello friends,

Today's mini practice is on the paradox of being and becoming.

Each one of us is a paradox of being and becoming or evolving.

On the absolute level we're already whole and complete,

On the relative level we're still evolving and growing.

We are always and already Buddhas in a certain way,

But we're also ordinary fallible sentient beings.

So from the orientation of the spiritual heart,

We're both always being and constantly becoming without any contradiction,

Without any bias one way or another.

We are simultaneously the universal one and the human one,

And within the spiritual heart we can experience these without contradiction.

So I invite you now to rest in the silent presence of your heart,

Your sacred heart.

Notice that awareness at the level of the heart is intimate and soft,

Spacious and luminous with presence.

No need to force any particular feeling here,

Just resting with openness to this presence of the heart and remaining for a moment in the space of this heart center.

Notice that unlike the mind,

The heart is not biased,

Not biased towards transcended wholeness or relative becoming.

It's not biased towards formless free awareness or the transient world of change.

The heart embraces it all.

This spiritual heart is all.

So throughout your day,

Invite yourself to act from this connected and embodied,

Intimate and loving space of the spiritual heart.

Invite the energy of the spiritual heart into your conversations,

Your actions,

Your responses to events,

As much as possible,

Intentionally remaining connected to the heart.

It can help throughout the day to actually touch your heart area and rekindle that connection.

Inviting yourself to retain awareness of the heart center while you go about all of your daily activities.

And if you do this for a few days,

You may begin to notice how your conversations and your decisions and the way you respond to things subtly changes when you remain consciously connected to your heart,

Your sacred heart that mysteriously includes and transcends this paradox of both being and becoming.

Already whole and complete and ever evolving with no contradiction,

Just resting in that paradox,

Resting in the heart,

Staying connected to that intimate,

Tender awareness around your heart center.

Be well,

My friend.
