Who here likes control?

Come on,

Get in and comment if you like control,

Or you need control,

Or you want control,

Or just control maybe makes you feel safe.

I'll be the first one.

I'll be the first one to admit it.

Yes,

Thank you so much.

I see you for raising your hand.

Yes.

Listen,

This is natural.

This is natural,

Okay?

So don't you worry,

There's no judgments here,

There's no shaming here.

It's just about us being honest and real.

Control and the need for it,

Well,

It's very natural,

And it happens for a lot of reasons.

Look,

Control can make us feel really safe.

If we know the details,

If we know the path,

If we know the potential outcomes,

It can make us feel like we have a greater chance of things being okay.

Control can also be a way that we feel we provide great care,

Great service.

I know I've felt like that before.

You want for things to go well,

So you want to control the atmosphere.

You want to control the flow of events.

You want to make sure that everything's clear,

That there's a path.

Well,

There are also other ways and other reasons we need to have control.

Some of them,

Believe it or not,

Actually boil down to our scientific makeup.

Did you know that our brains are always making shortcuts?

It's part of the way we manage so many processes in a day.

And if you're building a new habit,

Let's say,

You are wanting to control your actions so you get something good down,

So you begin a new path,

You begin a new action.

There are so many reasons for control.

So like I said,

There's no judgment and there's no shaming here.

There's a lot of reasons why we need,

We want,

We hope for,

We strive for,

We enjoy control.

But what about entertaining a better way?

Could there be a better way?

That's what we're going to explore today in this message.

You see,

While we are given very real faculties,

A brain,

Choice,

An opportunity to create and express,

Which is all absolutely divinely given to us,

Naturally given to us,

If any of my watchers right now,

And get in the chat,

Get in the comments and let me know,

If any of you have any metaphysical background,

Quantum physics background,

You'll know that now science is starting to catch up with what we have been seeing in scripture and in sacred texts for a long time.

There's something greater that when we tap into it,

Our need for control can diminish and we can experience a sense of flow,

Joy,

Peace,

Excitement,

And more.

Now,

Are you in it?

Does that sound exciting to you?

I know it does for me.

Let's go ahead and explore some of what scripture may have to say about letting go and letting God.

We're going to look to what's found in the book of Luke in chapter 15,

Verses 11 through 32.

This is in Luke chapter 15,

Verses 11 through 32.

And if you're just logging on,

I've already said,

This is never about telling you what to think or believe.

We're exploring many paths and options at how we can invite God in.

And so we're going to use this story here to take a look.

What you'll find here is you will find the story about the prodigal son.

Have any of you heard that story before?

Let me know in the comments.

In the story of the prodigal son,

Essentially a few things are happening.

So there's a man with two sons and he's very well off.

He is going to leave an inheritance to both of his sons.

One of his sons decides that he wants his inheritance immediately,

Which as we all know to this day,

Usually is not the way it goes.

You get an inheritance once the person departs.

But this son wants his inheritance now.

Sound like control anyone?

So he asks his father to give him his inheritance and his father says yes.

He gives his son the inheritance and his son takes off and goes and lives a life that's described as wild and free to say the least.

He's basically partying and gallivanting and spending the money.

Well,

As he does this,

There comes a time when the inheritance runs out,

Stuck.

Now the son is poor,

So poor that he finds himself in the farm,

Basically eating the slop of what the pigs eat just to sustain himself and really just feeling miserable.

Finally,

This experience is so much for him that he decides he's going to go back to his father and ask for just a little bit of forgiveness.

I mean,

He'll just be a servant,

But please just help now.

He does this and his father sees him off in the distance and runs to him.

He runs to him,

Throws his arms around him,

Welcomes him back home,

Quickly takes off a ring and puts it on his finger,

Calls for them to go ahead and prepare the best livestock for a feast,

Calls for good clothing to bring to him and so on.

Wow,

What a reception.

At the sight of this,

The son that has stayed,

That did the right thing,

That didn't ask for the inheritance,

That stuck around and worked,

Was so upset,

So upset and angry he didn't even attend the feast for his brother.

This story is full of control,

Letting go of control,

And what could happen when we do.

As I said before,

In the beginning,

For the son to ask for his inheritance,

Like,

Oh my goodness,

That's trying to take control.

There's nothing about that request that is normal or that is appropriate,

But the son goes for it.

He wants what he wants and he gives it a shot.

On the same token,

The father,

Wow,

What an example of letting go of control.

Let's go ahead and park here for a minute because this is the harder one for us to usually do.

Who here is a parent?

Feel free to share it in the comments.

I am a parent and if my child were to come to me and say,

Hey,

Could you just like give me my inheritance now,

I'd have to admit that my feelings would be hurt to say the least.

And I would be worried about what my child would do with the inheritance and if they would spend it all and not have anything left over.

You know,

All the common things that we normally think of and consider.

So wow,

If we put ourselves really,

If we just allow ourselves to go into this story,

Already they're letting go of the emotion,

The emotion from this request,

Letting go of the need.

Surely this gentleman was working hard to have an inheritance for his sons to begin with.

He wasn't worried about losing it apparently,

Or at least he was able to let go of that piece of control.

And then what happens when the son received the inheritance?

The son took off.

There's a lot of letting go of control in that example.

It's tough when our kids grow up and just join life in general.

We see them less.

We don't know if they're going to call us back right away or come and visit when we hope or share all the intimate details that we were privy to when they were in our home.

It's tough.

So we see a lot of letting go of control in this story from the perspective of the way that the father behaved.

And then,

Wow,

When the prodigal son comes back,

I don't know about you,

And as always I welcome you to join the comments and share,

But could you see someone that has hurt you or left you or made an appropriate request of you?

Could you see them off in the distance and just let go of all of that and run towards them with open arms,

Happy to see them again,

Welcoming them back into your life and requesting the best that you have to give to them?

Friends,

That's a big one.

I can't really say that I can always do that.

As a matter of fact,

I know I can't.

We're keeping it 100% honest here.

That's what Invite Got In is all about.

It's about exploring these concepts and these stories and these ways of being and being honest about where we're at,

All the places we have to grow,

And what it would really feel like to do so.

So in this story of the prodigal son,

My goodness,

We see so many ways that control was trying to be acquired and control was let go of.

And we also see some of the beauty of what can happen when we let go and let God.

You see,

When the son had had enough of his wild ways,

He had no money,

And he was just left with slop from the trough of the pigs,

He finally had to let go of any semblance of control he thought he had,

Of his ego,

Of his shame,

To go and ask his father.

In that simple act,

Notice what was open to him,

A chance to come back home,

A warm welcome that he never would have expected,

The best of the best.

What is available to us as we let go and let God?

Who is waiting for us with open arms?

What blessings are waiting for us?

What new thing?

It's amazing.

This goes deep.

Such a simple little story gives us so many perspectives and opportunities for us to explore how we would act and what we would do.

But you know something?

If we're really letting go,

And we're really letting God,

Who would forgive us?

Where would we be welcomed back?

What new thing would we attain?

If we were finally just tired of trying to make it happen ourselves,

Or tired of putting up the front that things are okay,

Even though we're just dying in the shed with the livestock,

What would be available to us?

Where could we go from there?

It's amazing.

And that's just kind of a good day-to-day,

But what about the extraordinary?

What about the extraordinary?

What about the things that are all the green lights,

That are time-stretched,

Like you're supposed to be late,

But time-stretched,

And somehow you're not late where you're going?

Or you're not qualified for the job,

But somehow you get the job,

And you get better than what was even promised on the job posting.

Or,

You know,

You don't have the money.

You don't have the money,

And you have no idea where that money's going to come from,

And somehow,

Somehow,

Oh,

Won't he do it somehow?

A reward,

Or a discount,

Or a gift,

Or an inheritance,

Or a scholarship,

Or something comes through the extraordinary.

What is available in the extraordinary?

Oh my gosh,

When we let go,

And we let God.

This is what we're exploring right here and right now.

And I invite you to really think about this and get excited,

If you will.

What is available?

What can't you see right now?

What third door is open,

Ready for you to walk through it?

Just by letting go,

And letting God do His thing.

Letting the law do its thing.

Letting our higher power do its thing.

Letting the metaphysics,

The quantum field,

You can call it what you'd like,

But it's there for us.

And it's serving us in those things that we explored in the prodigal son story,

Where we can have that forgiveness,

Where we can be taken care of,

Where we can be welcomed back,

Which are all wonderful things.

And we can have the extraordinary.

Let's dive into a little bit of that.

In Matthew chapter 14,

Verse 22 to 33.

Matthew chapter 14,

Verse 22 through 33.

In this story,

Beloved.

This story is the story of Simon Peter walking on water to meet Jesus in the sea.

What?

Now,

Who here has heard this story?

Let me know in the comments if you are somewhat familiar with it,

Or if you've heard it before.

I'll tell you this.

Oftentimes,

When we hear that story,

This is what we pay attention to.

Or maybe it's just me.

But some of us are like,

Yeah,

But he sank.

But guess what?

Guess what?

He walked first.

He actually walked on the water.

He only sank when he stopped believing.

When he stopped letting go and trusting God,

That is when he started to sink.

That's the only time he started to sink.

But he was able to walk on water.

He was able to get out of the boat.

One of just the one.

All the rest of the disciples were in there.

Nobody else took a chance.

So look,

This is extraordinary,

Okay?

It's extraordinary to have even the vision,

That first hope of I can do something wild.

In this case,

It's step out onto the moving water out of this safe boat.

And then continue to walk toward Jesus.

Wow.

The extraordinary is available to us,

Friends.

What is available to us when we let go and we let God?

Well,

There's all kinds of things.

There's answers.

There's awareness.

There's forgiveness.

There's a way.

There's a welcoming.

There's help.

There's a hope.

But then there's also the extraordinary.

The miracles,

Honey.

The miracles.

Won't he do it?

Yes,

Yes.

All right?

So as we explore these stories here in scripture,

And we allow ourselves to really kind of play in this,

What is something extraordinary that you can let go and let God kind of help you with?

You know what I mean?

There's something there.

A dream,

A wish,

A plan,

A hope for yourself,

For a loved one.

Let's play,

Friends.

Let's play in this.

This is fun and joyous and good things for us to focus on and for us to spend our time pondering and thinking about and playing with.

Right?

So what is an action point that you can do?

I'll tell you something.

Yes,

We can look at these stories and we can get excited,

But none of this matters if we don't try to embody it in our lives.

This isn't about perfection.

This isn't about posturing.

This is about really trying this out.

Imagine you're a spiritual scientist,

So to speak,

And you want to just walk it out.

So here's a way that you can do that.

Okay?

It's very,

Very simple.

You simply take a breath.

And whatever it is that you're stressed out about,

You don't have the details on,

You're wanting to have control.

You just take that breath.

I surrender this to you,

God.

I surrender this to you,

God.

You take that breath.

I surrender this to you.

Whatever that is,

It's a practical way you can immediately begin to walk it out.

Whether you want to put it in a comment or not,

Definitely walk this out in your heart.

Walk this out in your day-to-day.

There's something on your mind.

There's something in your life.

Maybe it's a child that's just gone awry.

Maybe it's your work.

Maybe it's the stuff you're seeing on the news.

Maybe it's financial troubles.

Maybe it's a physical situation.

We're gonna think of what that is.

I surrender this to you,

God.

Let's walk that out this entire week until we meet each other again.

Let me go ahead and pray us out.

May the Lord bless you and keep you.

May the Lord make his face to shine upon you.

And may the Lord watch over you and bring you his peace.

I'm T.

Marie.

This is Invite God In.

Bless you.
