A guided meditation leading to a silent mantra practice using "So Hum" which translates to "I am that." Sohum or Soham is a Hindu mantra, meaning "I am He/That" in Sanskrit. In Vedic philosophy, it means identifying oneself with the universe or ultimate reality. The mantra is also inverted from so 'ham (the sandhi of saαΈ₯ + aham) to ham + sa.

Hello,

This is Tara and welcome to today's meditation.

Let's start by just getting comfortable.

Find a comfortable place to sit,

Nice and upright so you can breathe naturally.

Just make sure you're comfortable in your body.

Just gently close your eyes.

Let us begin by taking a long,

Slow,

Deep breath in through the nostrils.

Exhale let that go.

Good.

Let's do that one more time.

Take a long,

Slow,

Deep breath in through the nostrils.

Just allow the belly to expand.

And gently let that breath go,

Watching it return back into space.

Just observe the breath.

And now before we meditate together,

Let us begin by asking ourselves a few questions.

First question,

Who am I?

Who am I?

You might not know the answer to this question,

But it could be a good time to begin this dialogue with the universe.

Who am I?

What do I want?

What do I want?

The answer can be material,

Ethereal,

Physical,

Spiritual,

Emotional,

Anything you would like to see fulfilled.

What do I want?

What is my purpose?

What is my Dharma?

How can I help?

How can I be of service?

What is my purpose in life?

And finally,

What am I grateful for?

What am I grateful for?

And now let's take a long,

Slow,

Deep breath in through the nose.

Exhale,

Let all of that go,

Releasing the answers,

Releasing the questions to the universe to work out the details.

And let us gently bring ourselves back to the lightness of just being.

Nothing to do,

Nowhere to go.

The lightness of just being.

And now let us begin to silently repeat the mantra,

SO HUM.

SO HUM.

Now remember the repetition of the mantra is gentle and relaxed.

No need to force,

No need to concentrate.

It is as if you are listening to it being spoken out loud.

SO HUM.

SO HUM.

From time to time if you find yourself drifting away from the mantra and having a thought,

Just allow yourself to gently witness the thought without judgement.

And ever so gently,

Like a cloud drifting by,

Allow yourself to release the thought and gently drift your attention back to the mantra.

If you find yourself distracted by a physical sensation in the body or a sound in the environment,

Just allow yourself to witness the sound,

Witness the sensation,

Just as a thought.

Witness it,

Let it go and gently drift your attention back to the mantra.

SO HUM.

SO HUM.

Now let us continue to meditate together.

I will keep the time so just keep repeating the mantra until I ask you to stop.

I will also keep the time so just keep repeating the mantra until I ask you to stop.

I will also keep the time so just keep repeating the mantra until I ask you to stop.

You you you you you you you you you you you you you you hes you you you you you you you you you you Whenever you are ready you can gently open your eyes.

Namaste.

experience deeper compassion in bringing myself back to the mantra in this meditation. I typically have so many thoughts underneath my gentle refocusing on the meditation when my mind inevitably wanders. finding an opportunity for grace in the midst of uncovering who I am through this mantra is an indicator of what lies within my heart for myself and others: an unyielding grace. very grateful for this track πŸ˜ŒπŸ™πŸΎ.

Thank you. :) I do have one question. This way of doing So Hum the Hum was said rather intensely compared to the So. Why is that? πŸ™πŸ’ž
