Hi,
I'm Dr.
Tonya Gilbert and I am a transformational coach.
I've assisted individuals and groups in transforming their anxiety and stress over the past 30 years.
What I would like to do here is to invite you to follow me into the world of transforming your stress and your anxiety.
What I'm going to teach you in these sessions is how to use relaxation techniques such as deep breathing,
Progressive muscle relaxation,
Visualization or what I refer to as daydreaming to assist you in transforming into a different world that you will engage the use of all of your senses,
The sense of sight,
The sense of sound,
The sense of taste,
Smell,
Touch and movement to help you rapidly calm yourself in those moments of feeling stressful.
I would like to pose a question to you now about stress.
Is stress your friend?
Can you use your stress or do you use your stress to help you engage into life's challenges or stress your fault?
When you are feeling stress and anxiety,
Do you become so fearful you go on to a full on panic attack?
Believe it or not,
Stress is normal and necessary for life.
Stress assists us in dealing with life's challenges and the only time stress is detrimental is when it becomes overwhelming.
When you are aware of your stress and know how to manage your stress,
You're less likely to become overwhelmed.
Not all stress is created equal.
Some stress comes from internal,
Our internal environment such as our emotions that are threatening,
Alarming,
Fearful,
Uncomfortable and make you feel as if you can't control your thoughts or you may be losing your mind.
Other stressors are external.
Our external environment comes from our experiences that happened outside of us.
But the good thing is you can become your own stress buster.
You have the power within you to reduce the impact of stress right in the moment that is happening to you.
However,
Learning to relieve yourself from stress won't happen overnight.
Stress reduction is a skill just like any other skill.
It's going to take time.
It's going to take practice and above all,
It's going to take commitment.
So now you may be thinking,
What do I mean commitment?
You understand practice and time.
You can use these stress reducing techniques that I'm going to share with you today in moments when you're not overwhelmed with stress.
It's a preventive method to keep that from happening.
Above all,
You must practice and learn how to identify your stressors and stay in control when the pressure builds up.
Learning the basics of stress relaxation techniques isn't difficult.
There are other things that's much,
Much more challenging,
But it will take practice for you to truly harness in on your stress relieving powers.
So right now we're going to stop and we're going to take a break for a few moments and we're going to gather things that we may need to make ourselves comfortable.
You may need a comfortable chair.
You may need a pillow.
You may need to change your clothes.
When you've done that,
We'll come back and we'll begin our first exercise.
Fingers crossed.
You
