In this guided meditation, young listeners are given a little inspiration to create stories of their own by following their imagination into tales of possibility that can allow them to step into sleep as they ask themselves questions like "what if..." and "what might happen next" in responses to a few of the stories they know. Great adventures await...

Welcome,

It's Ella Faye of Sylvanocity with a story step So that your story may allow you to step into sleep.

What story am I talking about?

Well the one you'll create of course Are you an experienced storyteller already?

Well then,

I hope our time together helps you to create a wonderful story that carries you off into sleep.

On the other hand Storytelling might be new to you.

Either way,

I hope the techniques I share with you will be useful inspiring Exciting even,

But not too exciting.

After all,

It's bedtime,

Isn't it?

Well,

Let's see for me creating a story usually starts with a question.

A what-if question or a what's next question What sort of question do you like to ask to start your story?

Hmm,

That sounds like a good idea to me Let's start with what if What if those three little pig brothers actually had a fourth sibling and that fourth sibling happened to be a girl and she built a houseboat and that houseboat sailed from river to lake and this particular pig made beautiful wind chimes out of the shells she discovered on the shores of the waterways she traveled and She discovered that if you shake it really fast and really loud It can even scare away a wolf Who knew?

Well,

She did of course Because she asked what if so what if you took a character from one of your favorite stories and added a sibling or maybe You asked a what-if question that came up when you entered their bedroom and peeked out their bedroom window at their neighbor's house Why their neighbor's house is quite large it has 17 doors Where do they all go?

I wonder Well,

There's one way to find out wait till the neighbor kid comes outside to play Wander on by and say hey When the kid comes over to say hello You could suggest Say do you want to draw a doorway on your tree and see where it leads?

Might be fun and that kid might invite you in This is your story after all and the kid might say well,

I know a lot about doorways Look at all the doorways on my house No way all those doors could be leading to different rooms that house would have to be huge and it's really not that big So where do those doors lead?

Well Just find out Perhaps the first one leads to a kitchen Another one leads to a back room for storing things or maybe it's a porch or a living room or a doorway that leads to You tell me where does it go?

Does it go to a mystical land?

And where when the wind blows unseen chimes Ring who might live in that world?

Are there fairies and dwarves and sprites and unicorns?

What about the other door that has a stairway up?

Into a well-lit room who might be waiting up there.

Could it be that it's a room into a classroom?

Classroom For people learning to use magic maybe so that's the wonderful thing About creating stories as you fall asleep You could decide what happens next all you need is An imagination.

I know you have one of those a good question and great possibility The world is full of them Sometimes when it's tough to think of new things on our own All we need to do is think back to the stories we know and love what sort of things do they contain?

Are there castles to explore?

Are there wonderful ships That travel the sea or the sky?

Are there characters We don't know very much about and can explore by following them to their bedroom Or off to school or through their neighborhood Where many wonderful things may be happening that we could learn more about our imagination has very few limits So there's no end to where we could go.

It's okay to travel far and wide in the worlds we uncover Because these are our stories we can stay in places that make us feel safe and cozy like Sitting by a fire a cup of cocoa in our hands laughing and telling stories with our friends maybe one of them laughs so hard cocoa comes out their nose or your other friend puts a Melting marshmallow on the end of their nose.

The wonderful thing is these stories we tell they can be our own They can include characters.

We create people we know and love places We've been a thousand times places.

We never knew existed We can imagine about places we've heard of but have no idea what they're like Tell me is there a really a place called Timbuktu?

The answer is yes.

It's in Africa tomorrow tonight Imagine this Timbuktu have tall towering buildings that reach up into the sky or a maze So big and so complicated it may take you all night to find your way through but it's okay Because each turn leads to a wonderful new discovery so now it's your turn to explore and create and Find your way into a story that allows you to step into sleep with your mind full of wonderful adventures That may carry on in your dreams sweet dreams.

This has been a Le Fay of Silvanosity.

Thank you for joining me
