Body,

But I would like to go a little bit deeper in the guiding and guide us into a short body scan,

Have this,

Use the body scan to get comfortable and more relaxed and familiar with the body.

And then we will look at other areas of the body and see how we can use meditation to perhaps heal different areas and to see what's going on within the areas.

So if you want to make yourself comfortable,

If you haven't done so already.

Feel free to close the eyes if you like.

Closing the eyes allows us to cut back on one of the senses of the body,

Allowing us to go within.

Meditation is a practice of going within.

So when we meditate we find ourselves finding a quiet place,

Hopefully a place with few desires,

Meaning that the temperature is adequate,

Very few noises,

Very few disturbances,

No bright lights,

No tastes to be concerned about as far as food,

No smells to be concerned about.

And with the eyes closed we are not distracted by different sights and seeing different things,

But we do have images that come into the mind,

Visualizations.

And for some these can be very,

Very vivid,

Others almost non-existent and everything in between.

But these images,

These visualizations can be used in our meditation.

And if a person isn't very good or they feel that their visualization isn't very clear,

You can practice something that I call sensualizing,

Which is just using all of the senses in communicating with what is happening within the mind.

I'd like to have everybody bring your attention to the breath for a few moments.

Notice the inhalation and be mindful of the exhalation.

For some of us this might be the first time all day that we've paid much attention to the actual breathing.

So we might notice right away that it gives us some relief and some comfort to focus on something somewhat mundane.

But it's also for this reason that the attention wants to wander away from the breath because of the mundane,

Which is equated with boredom.

So we can sit with the breath,

We can focus on the breath,

And this is really the basis behind many,

Many meditation practices.

But we can also use the breath to heal the body,

In other words to soften any kind of tension or stress within the structure of the body,

Softening the muscles,

Softening the tendons,

Just general areas.

So if we bring our attention to the top of the body at the forehead,

For example,

The average person probably has never consciously or with awareness tried to relax the forehead.

There's actually hundreds of intricate muscles within the forehead that can be relaxed,

So it's a good place to start.

As we exhale,

Which is the most relaxing part of the breath,

As we exhale,

Bring the attention to the forehead as if you're breathing right through it,

Relaxing the forehead as you exhale.

At this point,

Pay a little attention to the inhalation,

But just the exhalation.

Let the inhalation act naturally.

We're not trying to force or manipulate anything in our meditation,

We're just allowing.

Now bring your attention down into the area of the cheeks and the nose of the head.

And again,

Use the exhalation to bring your attention to this area in order to relax it,

Just like you're breathing through.

Every time you exhale,

There's more and more relaxation happening in that area of the body.

Now bring this awareness down into the area of the jaw.

See if you can relax the jaw without parting the lips open.

We want to place the tongue behind the top teeth,

Slightly behind them,

Relaxed,

Or it could be resting right behind the lower teeth,

The lower jaw.

Whatever feels most comfortable.

The teeth slightly apart,

The jaw completely relaxed.

And as you relax the jaw,

Notice the relaxation that happens to the tongue,

Which is a very long muscle.

When we relax the tongue,

We can feel that relaxation actually going through the entire body.

Relaxing the tongue is a very good exercise when we are alone,

When we're driving,

When we don't have to use the mouth for eating or talking.

Just completely resting,

We can bring all of our attention to that area.

It's like cleansing the mind and the body.

Bring this relaxation now into the neck.

We're leaving the area of the head and moving into the neck.

And now with an exhalation,

Bringing that relaxed awareness into the shoulders.

Notice how that feels to really use the breath,

The exhalation of the breath to relax.

What I mean by that is every time we exhale,

It's just like breathing right through the structure of the body.

And so it's like sweeping the body with relaxation,

These particular areas.

Now moving down the arms,

The exhalation,

Bring that relaxation into the biceps,

The forearms.

Let the relaxation move into the wrists and then the hands.

As you exhale,

Relax the fingers.

Now at this point,

We can just touch on some of the areas that we have already relaxed and see if there's any tension in the face or the head.

Check the neck and check the shoulders.

Keep the jaw very comfortable.

Try to utilize that in the total picture of the relaxation,

Totally relaxing the body.

Bring this relaxation now into the torso or the trunk of the body,

Starting at the top of the body between the shoulder blades with an exhalation.

Relax the very top of the back and then bring that relaxation around the front,

Relaxing the chest or the area of the heart.

Now let that relaxation move into the core or the center of the torso,

The middle of the back and the upper abdomen.

And then as you exhale,

Relax the lower back.

This is an area that we trouble with stress.

For some reason,

It seems to collect there as well as the shoulders.

See if you can really relax that area and soften it.

Even if you're sitting on the floor in a lotus posture,

You should be able to relax the lower back.

And then with your next exhalation,

Relax the lower abdomen in front of the body.

Check any areas that the tension might have came back into.

Try to relax them again.

Then we'll move on into the lower area of the body,

Relaxing the hips,

Allowing the hips to sink into the cushion or chair.

Remember to use the breath,

Exhaling relaxation into every portion of the body.

As we exhale,

Relax the thighs.

These are the hamstrings as well.

Bring this relaxation into the knees.

And as you exhale,

Relax the shins and calves of the lower legs.

And then finally,

Pass the ankles and into the feet with an exhalation of the breath.

Just breathing in and breathing out.

You can do a body sweep,

Which means that every time we exhale,

We're relaxing the entire body.

Just like sweeping the entire body from the top of the head all the way down to the feet with every exhalation of the breath.

Softening the body as we hold our posture.

Still be a very energetic practice while being completely relaxing.

And if we're lying down,

This is a practice that for many people would put them to sleep quite readily.

This is something that we can use if we have any kind of sleep deprivation.

But if we're sitting,

We should feel the energy as well.

In meditation,

We need energy.

If we have any bodily goals,

Anything that needs healing within the body,

Just bring it into mind at this moment.

And ask yourself,

What area of my life could have possibly helped manifest this area of the body that I might be having some difficulties with?

Or it could just be stress or strain.

It could be an organ.

It could be a muscular thing.

It could even be a disease.

What area in the body might you be focusing on at this moment that could possibly be caused by something in our lives that came in and not related to the body itself?

Something that we could say came in through the mind.

Came in through either our being aware of it or being unaware of it perhaps.

Just imagine for a moment that every ailment,

Every difficulty that we have has at some point come into the body from a mental standpoint.

Either in this lifetime or maybe even a previous lifetime.

And even if you don't believe that,

Just imagine for this meditation that it could be true.

So a constant aggravation,

Constant mental aggravation for example,

In the area of negativity.

Just imagine if that could have caused a difficulty within the structure of the body.

That negativity could even cause something such as a pain in the foot.

Or that some habitual pattern that we've picked up is causing problems with our sight or our digestion for example.

Or that somehow in our environment we expose ourselves continually to a substance that causes respiratory problems.

Or maybe even causes problems within the structure of the body.

Or with the operation of the cardiac system,

The heart.

So if we were to make any changes and to somehow know or have a feeling or a sense that possibly this particular activity or this particular thing that was ingested or being ingested or maybe even a habitual pattern of behavior has caused something to not function the way we'd like it to function within the body.

Or it might be causing discomfort or pain.

Imagine that any kind of inflammation perhaps in the body is caused by an attitude or a mind state.

That repeated anger can cause all sorts of difficulties related to stress.

Or that being ashamed could have a person have difficulties with the structure of their body such as hunching the back,

Not having the pride to stand tall and how all these things can be related.

So we have the balance of the body.

When we see a medical doctor they look at the numbers and if the numbers aren't the way they would like them to be they give us medication to fix that in some way.

A medical practitioner would give us a prescription of a pill or an ointment or maybe some kind of a procedure where they would go in and try to fix the situation.

But if these difficulties were originated from the outside source that had come in through the mind or mentally somehow affected us is it possible to use the same technique to cure the problem?

Perhaps it's as easy as being open to the process to realize that this is possible and to have the clarity and the insight to be able to recognize how the problem came about and then reversing that.

Most of these situations that we look at and that we have have happened over a period of many years.

If we believe in past lives maybe some of this has occurred or began its journey at that time actually.

Sometimes this could be looked at as our genes.

But when we look at the genes and where we are now today at this moment and our conditioning up to this moment we have a very practical view of what we are and what we are dealing with.

Very few of us are what we could say 100% healthy.

Maybe close but we still have ailments in the body,

Discomforts.

Very hard to find an absolute perfect body without any difficulty at all.

So if we can look and see how this difficulty or ailment or whatever we might be dealing with within the body happened and be very very open and accepting,

Completely accepting of how it happened.

Whether it's through habitual patterns or habits,

Taking in the wrong foods or the wrong circumstances of some type,

Somehow,

Some way that has caused these problems then we should be able to reverse it as long as we know how it started.

And when it's related to meditation it certainly deserves a chance to be tried.

So if we have an area of the body that we are working with,

If we can visualize the situation,

Visualize the ailment or visualize the inflammation,

Visualize the pain,

Whatever it might be.

If we can visualize how it happened and then visualize the outcome of what it would be like to have it completely cured.

And it's still advisable to use the breath.

Many of us have probably let go of the breath while we're doing this short meditation and discussing and looking at these different aspects of the body but we still want to connect with the breath.

So bring your attention back to the breath and focus on that one specific area of the body if you have that one particular place that you would like to work with.

Visualize it in three dimensions,

Not just as a picture.

You want to be able to move your visualization,

Your imagery around the entire body without having any obstacles.

Be able to use your imagery as an x-ray machine.

You might want to go a little bit deeper than you might have in the past and really connect with that sore spot so to speak or whatever it might be that you're working with.

Now use the breath to actually breathe coolness into that area like you're waking it up.

Like the area knows that it's been discovered.

It knows that there's a presence.

Still focusing on the breath and you're still also focusing on that area of the body.

Now however you feel that that injury or the situation or whatever it might be came about,

See if you can mentally reverse that.

And so we have to take that ailment or whatever it might be and we have to place that someplace.

So visually we want to remove it from the body and place it back where it came from.

If it came from a pattern of habits,

We want to see these habits and we want to see this illness or this discomfort.

Leave the body through these trails and these patterns of habits that brought them about,

Negative habits.

Or if it was through digesting different ingredients in the body such as alcohol or taking the wrong medications or illegal drugs or something.

Whatever is happening within the body we want to see that being removed in the same manner from the body out into the open awareness.

Open awareness is out into the environment.

We can do this again and again refining the technique.

We want to be able to actually feel and know that this is happening in the moment.

Everything taking place in the present moment.

We have to know that the healing quality is possible and that it is happening.

And we are still using the breath.

We can use the breath to caress it out of the body or to push it out of the body as we exhale.

We can draw it out of the body with inhalation and place it into the environment with the exhalation using the inhalation and exhalation.

Breathing in,

Breathing out.

And most of all we have to have the faith that we can heal without taking a pill or having medications.

But by just relaxing the body and allowing it to heal in the exact same way that it somehow found this discomfort or this pain or whatever we are working with within the body.

So we will sit in silence for a few moments.

And just do this as a practice.

Allowing it to take hold.

Knowing within our hearts that we are healthy beings.

As healthy as we need to be.

Allowing it to take hold.

Allowing it to take hold.

And so bring your attention to the breath.

If it's not there already.

Just feel the breath as a very healing tool,

Like a scalpel.

Something that's very useful in many different ways.

Let's take a little deeper than normal inhalation and bring ourselves back to the room.

Just knowing that this meditation has been very healing,

Just feeling it within the body.

Take another deeper than normal inhalation of the breath.

Bringing energy into the body.

One more time.

Thank you, this was so helpful as I’m struggling with nagging sinus congestion & breathing difficulty & the fear of it worsening, while trying to get ‘on my feet’ in my new life, at 50, as a newly single woman, it can be really scary to figure out the world again, with an aging body & seasonal viruses, etc & this meditation really helps. Thank you. Really thank you. 🙏🏽

This was for me an outstanding relaxation and healing process. I appreciated very much your specific, easy and measured pace of relaxing the body and the way you incorporated it with the breath. Then entering into specific healing, allowing for memory and attached feelings was deeply effective for me....and it isn't the first time I've experienced a healing process. This time I connected it all and I felt a shift. Thank You so very much! 🙏
