This meditation is an appointment with myself when I can create a distance while living the day to day life.

A lot of reality is given to everything.

Success and failure,

They are very real.

Honor and dishonor,

They are very real.

Gain and loss are real.

Spouse is none other than spouse.

My son or daughter is nothing more than son or daughter.

I am also nothing more than an individual.

With my likes and dislikes,

With my complexes,

With my fears and insecurities,

With my desires and ambitions,

With my triumphs and frustrations,

All of these are very real.

That is how I live my life.

When I am successful,

I am very happy.

When I fail,

I become frustrated.

When I am accepted,

I am happy.

When I am rejected,

I am very unhappy.

When playing the role of husband,

I become husband.

Then I become father.

Then I become son.

I become mother,

Wife,

Daughter,

Friend.

These are the realities about myself.

I compare myself with others and feel great or small,

Proud or jealous.

That is the life I live,

Where this objective world is very real.

That is all there is.

The world is different.

I am different.

I am a limited individual who is struggling to become greater than what I am,

Struggling to become successful,

Struggling to make a mark.

All these things are very real.

This meditation can become an occasion when I can step back from that vyavahara,

From that interaction.

I can step back,

Where I can remind myself as to who I really am.

Yes,

I am an individual.

I am a man or a woman,

Husband or wife,

Father or mother.

Yes,

I am that.

But that is not all I am.

I am someone that is different from them also.

Because sometimes I am mother,

Sometimes wife,

Sometimes friend,

Sometimes daughter,

Sometimes husband,

Sometimes father.

I keep changing the rules,

Like an actor who changes the rules.

Therefore,

It points to the fact that whereas the rules are in me,

I am not the rules.

If I only was father,

I could not have been a son,

I could not be husband,

Could not be mother,

Could not be daughter.

I could not have changed these rules if I was confined to any one of the rules.

The fact that I keep changing rules means that while I pervade all the rules,

The rules cannot be without me.

At the same time,

I transcend all the rules.

Like an actor that pervades the beggar,

The king,

The minister.

But at the same time,

He transcends them all.

And so also,

I pervade all the rules.

But at the same time,

I transcend them.

I play other roles also.

Sometimes I am a speaker,

Sometimes a listener,

Sometimes a walker,

Sometimes an enjoyer,

Sometimes happy,

Sometimes sad.

But all these are subject to coming and going.

None of this is permanent,

They are all incidental.

If unhappiness was my nature,

I could never have been happy.

If being a speaker was my nature,

I could not have been a hearer.

But I am able to switch the rules without any difficulty.

That shows that I transcend all the rules.

This meditation is to see this fact when I can create a distance from all the rules.

Recognizing that the rules are relative reality.

Husband and wife are relatively real.

Father and son are relatively real.

But that is not all that I am.

I am a simple conscious person who assumes various roles.

It is true that because I identify with the roles,

Therefore everything assumes a very great dimension.

Everything becomes very serious.

Every gain and loss,

Every honor and dishonor,

Every success and failure.

They attain a great proportion.

They create a great impact on me.

And they do not have to.

If I remember that I am playing those roles.

And that honor and dishonor,

Success and failure,

Pleasure and pain,

Comfort and discomfort,

Husband and wife,

Father and daughter.

All of these are confined to the roles.

They do not affect me who is playing the roles,

Who is different from the roles.

All this takes place in the waking stage.

I leave everything here and enter the dream stage.

Even the dream world I leave there,

Enter the deep sleep stage.

I take nothing with me.

I am able to let go and walk away.

That shows that none of this is intrinsic to me.

All of this is incidental.

What is the intrinsic nature of myself?

A simple conscious person.

Your male and female also belong to the roles.

A simple conscious person I am.

Independent of all the roles.

Free from all the roles.

Thus creating a distance between the role and myself.

Just as an actor,

When he or she goes to the green room,

Sheds off the costume.

This meditation also is for shedding off all the costume.

I am not playing any role right now.

I can clearly see how I take everything so seriously.

As though that is the only reality when it is happening.

But the fact is,

I am able to walk away from every role.

That shows that role is incidental.

I do not want to give any reality to that other than an object to reality.

But I am not confined to this worldly reality.

The world comes and goes.

The roles come and go.

Incidents come and go.

The flow of life takes place.

I am the witness of the mouth.

Unconnected.

Unaffected.

Asanga.

Sangha.

Means attached,

Connected.

Asanga.

I am asanga.
