The ego-self is a set of concepts and the true self is your truth beyond all concepts. In the exercise, you will drop all concepts about yourself and know your true being, the infinite I. The ego-self is limited and is bound by past and future, your true self is unlimited and pure potential. Knowing your true self brings an end to suffering and allows life to flow from divine grace. The exercise is inspired by an exercise from the book "What Am I" by Galen Sharp.

Hello and welcome.

In this exercise we will discover the truth of who we are beyond concepts.

Have a paper and pen ready.

So when we ask ourselves who am I at a very general level not the spiritual level,

We come up with a set of concepts.

If we were to meet a stranger and the person asked who are you,

We would describe ourselves with a set of concepts.

Let us write these concepts down.

Write down your name,

Your gender,

Place of birth,

Religion,

Nationality,

Your role at your workplace,

In your personal life,

The roles you play.

Just keep your answers short.

The different roles you are a mother to your child,

Sister to your brother,

Daughter to your parents.

Whatever the different roles that are taken on by the body mind.

Any spiritual beliefs you have or labels.

For example,

I am a Buddhist,

I follow Advaita,

I am a student of course of miracles.

Whatever identities you have in the spiritual realm,

Write it down.

The best phase of your life and the worst phase of your life.

Don't dwell in the memory.

Just write down as a single word or two words.

The belief that keeps you strong.

The political view you have,

The party you support.

What is your strength?

What is your weakness?

Now look at this list.

This is some of the ways you describe yourself.

Let's say there's a white spiritual fire and you drop this list into the fire.

Everything that you thought you were is dissolved,

Burnt by this gentle spiritual fire.

Everything that you thought you were is gone now.

You're still here.

You're still listening to this voice.

You know you exist.

This is your true self before the birth of the body and after the end of this lifespan,

Your true self is.

You are before any thought,

Any description.

Even before you can say your name or say anything about yourself,

You are there.

You don't need any words to describe yourself.

You know yourself without any words,

Without any time.

Why would you need words to know yourself?

You are here now.

This is your infinite self with no past or future,

No labels,

No good memories or bad memories,

No beliefs.

You are a free being.

Nothing can bind you and you are a complete being.

You are the silent being.

You are here now and you're not in time.

Everything on that list was in time.

You are the eternal being.

You are the eternal being.

Know yourself without concepts,

Without labels,

Without time and you will realize that you are Sat Chit Ananda,

Your pure consciousness,

Your pure bliss,

Your unconditional love and peace.

Namaste.
