Flying takes us to many of the places we want to go but can be a challenging experience if fear kicks in. Stress and anxiety can be our companions on our flights, companions no one wants to come along. This meditation begins with a blessing of the plane, and its occupants and combines breathwork, relaxation, and visualization to help you to enjoy your flight. Bring it along on your next flight to help you soar fearlessly.

Hi,

I know better than anybody how stressful flying can sometimes be.

And for those of you that find that it's not your favorite activity,

Or even if it is,

I think that this meditation will help you at times when you feel stressed,

Anxious,

Or just need to relax during the flight.

So I invite you now to get nice and comfortable in your seat.

Gently close your eyes and allow your palms to face up.

The one thing that I noticed the most when I get anxious on a flight is that I hold my breath.

So what we're going to do is focus on the breath throughout this meditation,

In addition to the relaxation.

So let's begin now by inhaling through the nose,

Filling the belly fully.

Hold and exhale.

And again,

Inhale through the nose,

Filling the belly fully.

Hold and exhale.

And one more time,

Inhale,

Filling the belly fully.

Hold and exhale.

Feel your body now from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet.

Relax.

Feel your ears droop,

Your shoulders relax.

Feel the muscles in your neck let go and feel the spine,

Nice and straight,

But also very relaxed.

All the muscles,

All the organs floating freely,

And everything is relaxed and at ease.

Feel now your lower back,

Your abdominals,

Your thighs,

Your calves,

And even your toes let go.

And feel from the top of your head to the soles of your feet,

Full of a sublime,

Peaceful energy.

Feel now the bottom of your feet and two centers opening and sending a beautiful pair of roots down through the floor of the plane,

Down through the sky,

And deep into Mother Earth.

Anchored there,

These roots are grounding you,

Assuring you that you are safe and secure throughout this flight.

We will begin by sending a blessing to all the passengers,

All the attendants,

The pilots,

And the plane.

Visualize now a bright,

Golden,

White light.

See it beginning in the cockpit,

Surrounding the pilots with excellent talent,

With excellent professionalism,

And excellent attention to safety.

Feel now this white ball of light begin to move down the aisle,

And as it touches each person,

It fills them with a sense of ease,

A sense of relaxation,

And a sense of peace.

Feel the ball of light continue to move down the aisle,

And everybody is engulfed in this blessed light,

Including you.

You're safe and you're secure.

Feel the ball of light now move all the way to the end of the plane and go out through that end.

And now the ball of light goes outside the plane,

And if there's any divine helpers you like to work with,

I always call my four major archangels.

Archangel Michael for safety and courage.

Archangel Raphael for healing.

Archangel Gabriel for clarity in my thoughts,

Focusing on what's true.

And Archangel Uriel for clarity in all areas of my life.

We ask these angels to surround the plane and engulf it with blessings and gratitude for a safe,

Complete flight.

Feeling now completely relaxed and that you are on a sacred vessel getting you from point A to point B very safely.

I'd like you now to visualize one of your very favorite places,

A place where you feel safe,

Secure,

And blissfully happy.

If the plane starts rocking and rolling at all,

We're going to go to this happy place.

We'll begin by taking a deep breath as we visualize our happy place and inhale and exhale.

And again,

Inhale and exhale.

Keep in mind that breathing is your connection to the present and will bring you back to your relaxation,

Paying attention in particular to where your shoulders are.

Make sure they're very relaxed,

Sending relaxation to every cell in your body.

As you visualize your happy place,

Get very specific in what it looks like.

I'm going to describe my happy place to you in case you need some guidance.

My happy place is the beach.

And when the plane starts in some type of turbulence,

I close my eyes and I go to the beach.

I visualize myself walking on the beach with the sun just the right temperature,

My hair slightly blowing in the breeze and walking slowly,

Appreciating the beauty around me,

The waves as they gently lap the shore,

The sound the seashells make,

The tinkling like so many gold coins,

Like such a treasure.

And as I look out into the water,

I see two dolphins out there playing in the surf.

They're jumping in unison.

And I remember joy and how important it is to feel joyful.

And I find myself in a place of gratitude that I can experience this joy,

That I can have the feeling of what it's like.

I continue to walk.

And as I look out to the water,

I notice the dolphins are following me.

And I smile.

And I think these beautiful creatures must have a message for me.

And I'll take a moment here.

I will stop my walking.

I'll take a deep breath,

Inhaling,

Filling my soul with the beautiful scent of the salt water,

The sand and the sun.

Inhale and exhale.

Feel this bliss fill every cell in your body.

Reminding you once again,

You are safe and secure.

And I reach out now to the dolphins and I ask them,

Do you have a message for me?

Is there something right now that I need to know?

Something that will ease my tension,

Something that will ease my stress,

Something that will Something that will make me realize that I am totally safe and secure.

And I pause a moment and I just listen.

I know there's no right or wrong.

I know that some days I get messages and some days I just bask in the peace of the quiet as I look out to the sea.

Wherever your happy place may be,

Allow yourself to be fully present in this happy place.

Regardless of what's going on around you,

You know that you are safe and that you are secure.

Feel yourself surrounded by peace.

By serenity.

Allow your happy place to tell you what you need to know now.

Know that anytime you can come back to this happy place or that you can stay here in this meditation for as long as you like.

Once more doing a body check.

Feeling if tension has arisen anywhere,

Especially in your shoulders.

Again,

Allowing the soles of your feet to relax.

Your toes,

Your calves,

Your knees and your thighs.

Feel them melt into the seat.

Into the seat.

And feel now the peace move through the abdominals,

All your organs floating freely and blissfully serene.

Feel again the relaxation move into the shoulders,

The biceps,

The triceps,

And each of your ten fingers tingle with perfection.

Acknowledging that you are perfect just the way you are.

That the stress and anxiety that you may experience is okay.

But you know ways to counteract that and that's exactly what you're doing.

Notice where your shoulders are.

Invite them to droop as much as they can.

The muscles in the neck letting go.

Your face,

Jaw sags.

For a moment,

Take your tongue and put it on the roof of your mouth behind your teeth and feel your jaw totally relax.

And let go of any tension that's accumulated there.

And now moving through the mind and allowing yourself to clear any negative thoughts.

Any beliefs that no longer serve you.

And to reclaim the thoughts that assure your safety and your security on this flight.

Affirm I am safe and I am secure.

Affirm I am grateful that I am safe and secure.

And now from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet totally relaxed.

You can stay here for as long as you like or if you're ready,

You can begin to bring sensation back into the body.

Wiggle the toes.

You can begin to bring sensation back into the body.

Wiggle the fingers.

Wiggle the toes.

Do a few shoulder rolls.

And if you feel guided,

Maybe take a nice stretch.

Stretch out those legs.

Circle your ankles.

Point and flex your toes.

And even reach for the sky all based on what you're comfortable doing.

Thank you so much for joining me.

This is Susan D'Antino.
