Welcome to Chats with Susan Burrell,
And that's me.
I help strong,
Capable women who have pockets of self-doubt access their inner wisdom and clarify their own truth.
Chats with Susan Burrell is where we have rich conversations about empowerment,
Radiating your brilliance out into the world,
And loving yourself more than you would ever have before.
And who doesn't want that?
So let's get started.
Welcome,
Welcome,
Welcome.
I welcome,
I just got to say that.
I'm so excited because I'm starting a series,
A short series called Journey to Empowerment.
Today's the first day.
So if you're listening,
I want you to make sure you stay tuned to the others.
And the reason why I'm doing this is because I have a book coming out.
I'm so excited.
Called Live an Empowered Life,
A 30-Day Journey.
And I want to read something from the book.
This is a quote.
I love quotes.
I love reading other people's inspiring work.
And I use those other books and authors to be part of my contemplative practice that expands into my meditations for my spiritual practice.
So this is a quote by Ernest Holmes,
One of my mentors.
He says,
Fortunately,
Your destiny is not external.
If it were,
You could not reach your goal.
One by one,
Without frenzy of impatience,
You are going to remove the blocks,
The mental blocks that stand between you and your destiny.
What thought has done,
Thought can undo.
Now,
This is a quote I have in my book because it was actually a go-to for a while for me because as I was doing my own personal inner journey of healing and learning how to love and respect myself,
I had to remind myself that sometimes the belief systems that we have or that I had that run us and we think it's real,
We think that my belief is real,
And then we see it in the external world kind of as an affirmation that that belief is true.
It helped me to realize that the things that I see,
The circumstances I'm in,
In the external world are not really real.
They're not.
It's my belief extrapolating out into the external world.
And then it reflects back to me and my inner,
Well,
Michael Singer from the Untethered Soul book calls it your inner roommate.
So my inner roommate would start affirming,
Yes,
Yes,
See,
That's right,
That's true.
But really what it is is just a reflection of belief systems that can be changed because we always are at a pivot point of choice.
Do I want to continue to experience the garbage,
The crap that keeps coming at me,
Or do I want to have a better life?
Do I want to have an empowered life?
So this book,
Live an Empowered Life,
A 30-Day Journey,
Kind of came out of all my inner musings and my personal excavation of what is true for me now and what isn't.
And what are the belief systems that are holding me hostage and what do I do to release them?
And so there was also an evaluation of the beliefs that I do want to continue to operate with like that I am a center of love,
That basically everyone in the universe is love in spite of what they look like.
I was currently reminded of this by a friend of mine.
I was,
I am working with a friend who's going through hospice experience and her stepchildren who have always in her experience presented themselves as being in her best,
Doing what is right for her,
Right?
Especially as she's going through hospice experience.
I found out that they're presenting differently behind the scenes,
Unknown to her.
So there's all sorts of crazy stuff that happens with people that are not dying and somebody who is dying has a bit of money.
I think you can figure out where this is going.
So I was reminded by a friend that I needed to see the truth about them,
Which is that they are that light and love in spite of their actions.
So these are,
These again are pivot points of how can I be more of that light and love within me?
And then as I develop that within myself,
I begin to see it outside in my outer world.
So this idea of removing mental blocks one by one is really important because we all have mental blocks.
And if we are holding those mental blocks long enough,
They become energetic blocks that then affect the body system,
The body temple.
And you begin,
I'm shaking my head,
I'm nodding,
You begin to develop disease.
And certainly that was my experience as well.
I had belief systems that I kept unconsciously affirming in my life.
The belief was if I'm sick enough,
They will love me.
Meaning if I'm really ill in the hospital,
They'll finally see me and love me.
And that happened.
I got direly ill,
Almost died because I was diabetic and it was undiagnosed.
And now I've been successfully,
Can you say successfully about being diabetic?
But I have been an insulin dependent diabetic for 28 years.
My body is still functioning well and I constantly,
I have to be vigilant about how I treat my body.
So the belief systems that we anchor in to our mind become systems that abuse our body.
And that's why doing a journey to uncover those beliefs,
Excavate them,
Dig them up by the roots and get rid of them became so important to me.
So along with my book,
Which is coming out in September,
There's empowerment cards that are companions to the book.
And I'm going to talk about that in just a minute,
But I want to read to you the how to of the book because you'll get an idea of what's coming next.
So this is how to get the most out of your empowered life journey.
So this is your life and therefore your journey.
You can go as deep as you like.
You can go as fast or as slow as you feel is necessary.
It's entirely up to you.
So this journal is designed to be an inner retreat for 30 days.
Daily consistency or commitment is best for inner transformation.
And that's true for everything.
A lot of people like to do a hors d'oeuvre platter and sample the,
I'm thinking of a bug's life,
The poo poo platter.
And they don't get consistent with their practice,
Whether it's meditating or reading inspiring things by authors that just get you so excited to live your life better and more.
And we forget.
So those practices drop off our radar.
Taking a walk,
But doing in a contemplative way.
These are practices that remind you to come back to your source within you,
Come back to love within you,
Come back to the truth of who you are.
And done daily,
Consistently.
It at least in my experience,
It builds an inner foundation of love and respect that then informs every area of your life.
Because there's not,
A lot of us tend to live life compartmentalized.
So this is my relationship and that's my business and these are my friends and these are the people I don't like and everything gets separated out.
But in order to live an empowered life,
There is got to be a place where you recognize that it's all connected.
Every compartment of your life is connected.
So as you do this,
A daily consistent check in with yourself,
A spiritual practice if you will,
That then informs all the other compartments because it's all one.
And then that radiates as you resonate with your spiritual practice,
It radiates out to others and you can become kind of a transformative influencer in the world just by doing the work you need to do for yourself.
That was a sidebar.
Let me go back to what I'm saying here in the book,
Live an Empowered Life,
A 30-Day Journey.
So this is your pivot point,
Meaning moving from old behaviors,
Thoughts and blocks to a more empowered and happier you.
How much happiness do you want?
These are questions to ask yourself.
How much can you handle?
How deeply do you want to love and respect yourself?
And again,
It's all up to you.
I suggest you choose the high road,
The road that will lead you into a higher consciousness within you.
The high road may feel like it is full of scary turns or knife edges of self-discovery,
Yet any journey once committed and consistently traversed,
The destination and the view or perspective is well worth the effort.
So in preparation for the launch of this book,
I was guided to begin to pull my journey cards,
My empowerment cards.
And they're full of affirmations that I've worked personally and they're full of inspiring quotes like the one I read at the beginning of this podcast.
And they're also full of journal prompts,
Journaling prompts.
And it parallels what's in the book.
So today,
So I've been pulling one a day and it's been fascinating to revisit all of these things and then practice that during the day,
Which is the purpose of the cards.
You pull one and you practice it,
Whether it's an affirmation or a journaling prompt,
It causes you to sit,
Think,
And then you can go back to it at any point during the day because you can take these cards in your pocket or your purse or whatever.
You can take them with you so you don't have to leave them at home.
So today I pulled journal purpose.
So the questions,
I sat down with the questions again,
I've done this several times in my life and began to journal my purpose as of this moment forward.
And it was interesting what showed up.
So I want to share a couple of things with you.
Maybe it'll inspire you to do it.
But one of my purposes now is to teach and model empowerment with as much humility and vulnerability as possible.
To lead and support others in their inner transformation and to love and nurture myself first and then teach others how to do that and to continue to step out of my box,
My box of thinking.
And I actually have,
I'm reminded right now,
I actually have a guided meditation on Insight Timer that's called Out of the Box Thinking.
And it's one I created for a client and it's actually one that I use myself,
Crazy as that sounds.
So go to Insight Timer or go to my website,
SusanBerel.
Com and click on the Insight Timer icon at the bottom of the page and it'll take you to all my guided meditations.
But this one is called Out of the Box Thinking.
And for me,
As part of my purpose,
Continually stepping out of the box means when I begin to feel small or not enough to take a look at what my thinking is and has it become a belief that I'm operating under or is it just a passing fancy?
Is it just a thought that wants to try and make me small?
Is it just the roommate in my head saying,
You can't do that.
Who are you to think you can do that?
So part of why it's important to develop a spiritual practice and make it a life journey is so that you can stop being small and move more fully into finding your freedom,
Your own personal,
What makes you feel free and happy and owning your brilliance,
Owning all those amazing gifts that you are already,
But owning it and saying,
Hey world,
This is who I am.
Whether it's in your family,
Your family of origin or your business,
Just being fully you as much as possible.
And so here's the actual questions on the card,
Time to Journal Your Purpose.
Am I fulfilling my soul's purpose or just existing?
You might want to ask yourself that one.
What is my purpose and does it make me feel vital?
Does it make me feel excited?
What needs to change in my life in order to fulfill my purpose?
So these are just questions.
These are just things to think about as we journey into living an empowered life.
I just wanted to share that with you.
Enjoy the journey of your day.
And so it is.
Namaste.
Namaste.
