The Sanskrit word mantra can be broken into two parts: “man,” which means mind, and “tra,” which means transport or vehicle. In other words, a mantra is an instrument of the mind—a powerful sound or vibration you can use to enter a deep state of meditation. In mantra meditation, you repeat a particular sound or short phrase that activates the relaxation response and calms you. The mantra can be as simple as the words peace or Ram. Harvard physician Herbert Benson has studied the power of this practice and has experimentally proven that, with as little as eight minutes of mantra meditation, it is possible to activate the relaxation response always present in your body. According to him, relaxation response is the ability of the body to induce decreased activity of muscles and organs. It is an opposite reaction to the fight-or-flight response. There is a beginning (introduction to the practice), a middle (the practice of the mantra meditation with soothing nature sounds), and an end.

Mantra is a Sanskrit word and it can be broken down into two parts.

Man which means the mind and Trā which means transport or vehicle.

In other words,

Mantra is an instrument of the mind,

A powerful sound or vibration that you can use to enter a deep state of meditation.

In a mantra meditation,

You repeat a particular sound or a short phrase over and over again.

This is a very simple meditation that activates the relaxation response in your body and calms you down.

The word can be secular like peace or the word Ram which Mahatma Gandhi used as his mantra during his entire life.

Dr.

Herbert Benson,

A physician at Harvard has studied this practice and has experimentally proven that with as little as 8 minutes of word or mantra meditation,

It is possible to activate the relaxation response that's always present in your body.

You can close your eyes and reflect on a word that speaks to you.

It might be love or the word Ram or something else.

Don't think too hard,

Pick the one that arises within you.

We'll start by repeating that word slowly and silently in the mind and let the word start to sink in and now gradually start to synchronize the repeating of the word with exhale of the breath.

I'll keep the time for 8 minutes and I'll ring the bell to indicate that our time is up.

So go ahead and get started.

I Nazis.
