We're going to use the Is It Wise Mind exercise just to practice accessing your wise mind.
Finding wise mind is like riding a bike.
You can only learn it by experience.
So we're going to go ahead and keep your eyes open for this exercise so that you can practice grounding and staying present at the same time rather than withdrawing.
So with your eyes open,
Find a good place to rest your eyes.
And then bring to mind something that you want to do or maybe something you don't want to do.
An opinion that you have or something that you're doing right now.
And focus your mind on your breath.
So once you've picked something,
Something you want to work on,
Something you want to tune into your wise mind about,
Go ahead and focus your mind on your breath.
And notice your breath coming in and your breath going out.
As you breathe naturally,
In and out,
In and out.
And as you inhale,
Ask yourself,
Is this wise mind?
As you exhale,
Listen.
Don't talk and don't give yourself the answer.
Simply listen for the answer.
Breathing in,
Is this wise mind?
Breathing out,
Listening.
Keep asking with each breath in and out and listen with each breath out.
See if an answer comes to you.
If not,
Perhaps there's no answer now.
Or perhaps you're too ambivalent to know the answer.
You can always go work on a list of pros and cons and then come back to this exercise again.
Is this your wise mind?
You want to rehearse being able to ask yourself that and drop into knowing,
Deep knowing of your wisdom that this is your wise mind.
