This imaginative mindfulness meditation is designed to be a bonding experience for caretakers to do together with their children (roughly ages 3-12). You'll go on a journey in your own minds to one of your favorite places, and explore it with all your senses. A great way to spend time together, while introducing mindfulness to children in a fun and engaging way.

Hi kids and moms,

I'm so glad to be here with you to show you one of my favorite exercises,

Your happy place.

You can listen to the happy place anytime you want,

Before you go to bed,

Or anytime you want to do something fun that feels great.

The first thing I'd like you to do is to get super comfy.

Lie down on your bed or on the floor together.

Wherever you are,

Grab pillows or covers,

Or your favorite stuffed animal,

So you're cozy and warm.

Great.

Now let your eyes softly,

Softly close,

And let your arms lie loose by your sides.

Your feet are flopping open and relaxed.

Feel how good it is to just lie here.

Anything you need to do,

Just resting and being warm and comfy together.

Now here's the fun part.

You and your mom think about a place you love,

A happy place.

You can have more than one happy place,

Most people do.

For today,

Choose one of your favorites for this exercise.

Your happy place will make you feel good even when you just think about it.

It's somewhere that feels fun,

Or super safe,

Or interesting,

Or happy,

Or all of those things together.

It could be your room that has all your favorite things around you,

Or it could be somewhere you went with your mom,

Like the beach or a park,

Or it could even be somewhere from one of your favorite storybooks,

A place where there are characters and people you love.

Mom,

Your happy place could be somewhere you went on a trip once,

Your bed on a quiet morning,

Or just a peaceful bench you really like under a beautiful tree.

So both of you think of your happy place.

What is it?

Take your time and let your happy place come to you.

Just for this exercise today,

What is your happy place?

Now that you're picturing it,

What do you see?

Are there animals,

Or people laughing,

Or toys,

Or food?

What do you see in your mind?

Look all around.

What colors do you see here?

Are the colors really bright,

Or kind of faded?

Whatever you see is perfect.

See everything very clearly in your mind.

And what does your happy place sound like?

Is it quiet?

Are birds singing,

Or dogs barking?

Maybe you hear kids playing,

Or music.

You're doing so great.

And what does it feel like here?

Is the air on your skin warm or cool?

Is the sun out?

What are you walking on?

Just notice what your happy place feels like when you touch it with your skin,

Or your hands,

Or feet.

Does it smell sweet here?

Or does it smell like the ocean,

Or french fries?

What do you notice?

Really smell it like you're right there.

Great job.

Can you even taste what your happy place tastes like?

Are you eating or drinking something?

Now use all your senses at once to soak in everything you love about your happy place.

How it looks,

And sounds,

How it feels,

And smells,

And tastes.

Let all those things fill you up.

All those things that make this your happy place.

Every time you breathe,

Really feel all these good things.

And you know what?

Your happy place,

And any other happy places you think of,

Are there for you any time you want to visit.

You can go there just like you did today,

And fill yourself up with this place that makes you so happy.

Now thank your happy place,

And say goodbye until next time.

And wiggle your arms and legs a bit to wake them up.

And let your eyes slowly open.

And if you're ready to get up,

You can take your happy place with you into your day,

Or visit it in your mind any time you wish.

And if you're ready for sleep,

You might even go there in your dreams.

Until next time.
