Say Goodbye To Overwhelm With A Trip To The Meadow
by Steven Webb
A nice little trip to the meadow, followed by some affirmations to help you transcend and conquer your overwhelm or anxiety. Excellent visualisation and especially useful for when you're feeling like life is getting a little too much.
Transcript
We use the phrase overwhelm a lot nowadays.
We are living in a world where there's more opportunity than ever before.
We are more connected to more people than ever before.
Our attention is being demanded more times in a single day than ever before in the past.
We have more ways for people to contact us than ever before.
Whether our mobiles,
For some social network or email or just like a normal telephone call.
There seems to be no time out.
No like,
Oh just give me a little break.
And we feel we cannot deal with everything that's going on anymore.
We get overwhelmed all the time.
Years ago it used to be every few months or so but now it's almost daily.
At some point during the day we feel this feeling of overwhelmed emotions or overwhelmed with to do's.
Then we feel like we have to run from it or disconnect.
Become paralysed because we cannot deal with it.
So we just want to push it away out of our lives.
And we end up doing nothing.
We end up ignoring the feelings or ignoring everything we need to do just to get a little bit of a break.
So this meditation is going to help you to feel that little bit of freedom and take back some control in your life.
If you make yourself comfortable and put your back up straight and place your feet flat on the floor.
Then we'll take a deep breath in and place your hands on top of your thighs.
And as you breathe in you can breathe in,
Calm and you can breathe out relaxed.
Calm and relaxed.
And we'll just take 30 seconds just to ground ourselves here to become more relaxed and calm in this moment.
You don't have to do anything.
You don't have to be anywhere.
You don't have to do anything in this moment.
Imagine yourself sitting in a room that's full of people and opportunities.
On the table there's a long to do list that you wrote the night before.
There's a pile of paperwork.
There are several phones.
The computer's got unread emails and you have many missed calls on each one of your phones.
Now imagine standing up and turning around and walking out of the room.
We cannot deal with this right now.
It's all too much.
We're leaving the room because the room will organize itself without you.
Everything will be fine.
And as you leave you walk down a nice country path leading to a nice beautiful open meadow.
In the meadow it's full of lovely soft green grass.
As you can see the flowers sprinkle all around with the trees surrounding the outer edge.
You may choose to take off your shoes and hold them in your hands.
You notice in the center of the meadow there's a large tree trunk lying on its side.
And you notice an area that's slightly worn where most people go and sit down there when they need a little time out.
You notice a small tree trunk lying on its side.
And you notice a small tree trunk lying on its side.
And most people go and sit down there when they need a little time out.
You decide to walk over to it now,
Feeling the grass underneath your feet.
As you head over there you climb up onto the end,
Walk along and sit down right where the tree trunk is worn.
After a couple of deep breaths you start to really take notice of what's going on around you in the meadow.
The different smells,
The feeling of the sun on your face,
The feeling of the sun on your face,
The butterflies,
Maybe there's a few other little animals you can see.
There is nothing else you need to do but just enjoy this moment.
This moment is yours.
As you recognize that you're strong and confident enough to allow this moment to be exactly what you want it to be.
When thoughts come in or feelings come in,
You can smile at them and go thank you,
But I'm just taking some time out on this tree trunk right now.
Not today,
Today is for me sitting on this tree trunk,
In this beautiful meadow.
After a little while you recognize that your focus and your energy can only do so much.
So you stand yourself up and you just jump off the tree trunk and you head your way out of the meadow.
As you walk in your feet are quite light on the ground and you have a warm feeling of freedom and confidence that you are in control of your life.
And as you carry on down the path away from the meadow,
The trees are on one side and there's a green area on the other side.
It's a lovely path but slightly uneven.
You have to watch where you're stepping with your feet.
There's wildlife all around.
You see the odd butterfly moving between the flowers and the leaves.
The leaves are blowing gently in the wind.
As you continue to walk along the path,
I want you to go through some of these affirmations.
Repeat them in your mind a couple of times and feel them deep within your body.
You can imagine them radiating from your heart and expanding everywhere from your toes right through to the top of your head and out to your fingers.
Everything is alright.
I am going to be okay.
Everything always works out for me even if I don't understand it all right now.
I can only do one thing at a time.
I have the confidence to say no.
I am in control of my life.
I release the need to please other people.
I choose to be calm and centered regardless of the situation.
Today I will allow time for self care and looking after myself.
Everything is unfolding just as it should be.
I am committed to living in the present and making the best of this moment I am given.
It is important to take time out for myself.
I am my very best self when I am well rested.
I am in full control of my life and I alone decide how much and what I should do.
I am in complete balance with all aspects of my life.
Everything is just as it is and that serves me perfectly.
Everything is alright.
I am going to be okay.
May I be loved,
May I be blessed,
May I be happy.
In a moment we are going to bring this journey to an end.
As you finish walking up the path you return your awareness to the room you are in.
Gently open your eyes and move your arms.
Shake out your hands and feel this energy that you brought back with you.
The energy of being in control with your life.
It is all about balance.
The balance between rest,
Learning,
Doing,
Living,
Growing and loving.
Do what you can from where you are and that is enough.
Thank you,
I am Stephen Webb and have an amazing day.
