Welcome to the Stillness Meditation where we use the image of a mountain to help us to ground ourselves and deal with whatever life throws at us.

So let's just get comfortable and invite our bodies to relax.

And you can gently close your eyes if you wish or just soften your gaze just a couple of feet in front of you.

If we take a deep breath and raise our arms above our heads and as we relax and let the breath out slowly lower our arms either side of our bodies and let them relax on the thighs of our legs.

As we just settle into this upright posture where our backs up straight and you can imagine there's a little cord above our heads just dangling down and holding us upright with our chin tucked in slightly.

And as we bring our focus and our attention to our breath just recognise that we're breathing in and we're breathing out.

Breathing in calm,

Breathing out relaxed.

Calm and relaxed.

You may notice some areas of tension somewhere in your body.

Just imagine them relaxing and fading away as you breathe out.

Everything is well in this moment.

You don't have to do anything just sit and invite your body to relax and stay alert and present but relaxed at the same time.

If you find your mind wanders just smile and thank it for the story and bring it back to your breathing.

If you miss any part of this meditation it really doesn't matter.

Just come back and join in whenever you realise that you've been wandering.

Imagine a mountain,

Maybe local or maybe some picture of a mountain.

And imagine it in lots of detail,

One that resonates with you,

One that you feel like you could be part of.

Imagine the details of maybe it has trees,

Perhaps it has snow near the top.

And you can imagine the clouds up above it and maybe there's a lake.

A mountain that you particularly think is really beautiful and the way it sits in the earth and it feels grounded and still and calm.

Notice how the mountains stay serenely calm no matter what the weather is on the outside.

No matter what's happened in the mountain stays grounded and it stays still.

Now imagine this mountain becoming part of you inside.

So you are now this mountain.

You're connected and grounded to the earth.

You're strong and you're stable and no matter what weather on the outside comes your way.

You're able to handle it.

You're prepared and you're ready.

You are the stillness no matter what goes on in your life.

We are often battered by our emotions and our thoughts.

Yet when we become still and serenely calm we're able to handle whatever the weather is,

Whatever the thoughts,

Whatever the emotions that come our way.

See the qualities of this mountain.

And imagine those qualities in you.

The serenely calm.

The stillness.

The unwavering groundedness.

The beautiful nature of the growth on the outside.

And the strength and stillness from inside.

These are all beautiful qualities that you possess.

And when we slow down and take a deep breath and recognize these qualities it means we are ready for whatever life or whatever thoughts or emotions come our way.

.

There's also a beautiful richness and quality to all the life on the mountain.

What makes the mountain beautiful.

From the trees to the birds to the snow and the clouds above.

All of this richness.

Makes up who you are.

I'm going to leave you with this feeling of the mountain for a couple of minutes.

I will keep an eye on the time.

Just imagine the qualities of the mountain throughout your whole body and your life.

Dear Steven, thank for helping to make the visualization of my mountain so clear. It was a wonderful reminder that I have the inner strength to weather anything that life throws my way... along with any emotions that surface. A reminder that I can remain grounded, calm and still. With gratitude and love, Stacey

I often visualize a mountain as I sit on a cushion with knees on the floor. This gave me a great sense of stability. πŸ”πŸ™
