Often thoughts are seen as the enemy of meditation and an obstacle to mindfulness. This commentary welcomes thought and explores the experience of simply allowing your thoughts to flow freely through your awareness and thereby creating space for new productive and inspiring thoughts to arise. Commentary lasts around 5 minutes, then 5 minutes of gentle ocean waves. (Enhanced audio and a more condensed commentary - March 2021)

Be conscious that you are thinking.

Notice the process of thoughts arising in your mind,

Arriving in your awareness.

Allow all your thoughts to come.

Notice the continuous creation of thought in your mind.

Allow the natural flow of thought through your awareness.

Notice how you don't have to consciously create the thoughts you're having right now.

They will just come automatically,

Spontaneously,

Without any effort.

Just like your breath continues without your conscious effort.

You don't have to remember to breathe.

You don't have to remember to think.

Thoughts will come all on their own.

Sit back,

Relax.

There's nothing you need to do,

No effort you need to make.

Just watch,

Listen,

Be aware of all your thoughts as and when they come.

Giving your thoughts all the time and space they need,

Allowing your thoughts to flow freely,

Without effort.

Notice any change to your thoughts.

Don't try to bring about any change,

Just notice if it occurs or not.

Just checking in on the quality of your thoughts,

Whether they're negative or positive,

Repetitive or creative,

Random thoughts or productive thoughts.

If any problems come to mind or any worries,

Allow them to be there and be open to any thoughts of solutions or resolutions to come to mind.

And being open to any inspiring,

Creative new thoughts,

Allowing the possibility of a new way of thinking about things to emerge.

Not trying to create new thoughts,

Not seeking any answers,

But being open to the possibility that these thoughts may naturally,

Spontaneously arise in the mind.

So,

Hopefully that ministers or Spring 2018 would help and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and

Meet your Teacher

This meditation made me aware of my thoughts. I had new thoughts come to mind, but I was able to focus on my thoughts. I do not have to believe everything I think.

I felt less attached to my thoughts after and really made space for a diffusion of pressure in my mind. Thank you!

Just go ahead and let the thoughts roll in... and out. What kind of thoughts are they? Can you actually say they are YOUR thoughts? Or just that you’re the only one who is aware of them. Good exercise.

I love this one! What a helpful approach to thoughts. I'm going to work with this all week, and probably forever. After one listen, it helped me accept an unpleasant thought. After two listens, I realize I can watch my thoughts just as I watch my breath in meditation. Thank you!

A less dogmatic and rigid methodology. Thought friendly and a more receptive way of sitting. The empty spaces allowed for thoughts.
