Sleep Deeply With Six Dimensions Of Relaxation

Deeply relax all elements of your being with this journey through six dimensions of the present moment. Ideal preparation for a deep and restorative sleep. Gentle waves follow the commentary.

Transcript

We'll approach this meditation in six parts,

But each part is about connecting with the present moment and seeing if we can relax into that awareness.

Just using a slightly different emphasis for each part.

And we'll begin by becoming particularly aware of the body.

I'm going to turn my attention into the body.

Firstly just get a sense of how the body is feeling,

The overall energy of the body.

And then feeling the weight of my whole body.

And then noticing how the weight of my body is being held and supported.

And then checking for any areas of tension in the body.

Maybe the shoulders,

The jaw,

Around the eyes.

And I like to see if I can get a sense of the whole body.

So after I've checked any particular areas of tension or tightness,

I like to take a mental step back.

See if I can get an awareness,

A sense of the whole body.

And that feeling of release and letting go and allowing the whole body just to be as it is.

And the feeling of release and relaxation washing through the whole body.

Getting a sense of any tightness or tension,

Loosening,

Dissolving,

Flowing out of the body.

And flowing out of the body,

Any part of the body where there's contact,

That feeling of connection.

As if the body is being drained of tension and stress through those points of contact.

And very naturally I tend to then begin to notice the breath in the body.

As the body eases,

Releases and relaxes.

And the breath becomes more apparent,

Moves into the centre of my awareness.

I feel like I can breathe more easily.

Now the body is starting to relax and I can really feel the breath in the body.

Really allowing the breath in each time I breathe in.

And releasing the breath,

Letting go of the breath completely each time I breathe out.

So both the in breath and the out breath an opportunity to gradually and gently deepen the relaxation in the body.

Relaxing the body to really allow the breath fully into the body.

As I release the breath,

That feeling of relaxation and release of the breath,

Also feeling that throughout the body.

And beginning to feel the breath like a wave of relaxation rising and falling in the body with each breath.

So creating a really nice virtuous circle between the body and the breath.

The more I allow my body to relax,

The easier the breath becomes.

And the more I allow the breath to rise and fall in the body,

The more that relaxes the body.

Just checking that I'm really allowing the breath in as fully and as freely as the breath wants to enter the body,

Not restricting the breath at all.

And that I'm completely releasing and relaxing the breath with each out breath,

Not holding on to the breath at all.

And maintaining an awareness of the body and just noticing if any tightness or tension creeps back into any of the muscles and just repeatedly releasing and letting go of any tension.

Letting the body really settle and relax gradually more deeply with each breath.

Let's see if we can take this very simple feeling of presence and relaxation.

And let's apply it to the body and with the breath and apply it to other areas of our experience,

Other dimensions of this present moment.

Let's turn our attention to our mind and our thoughts.

And notice the thoughts as they come and go through the mind.

And bringing with us this same attitude of awareness,

Allowing,

Releasing,

Letting go and relaxation.

Bringing all of this to our mind and to our thoughts.

I allow my thoughts fully and freely into my mind just as I allow the breath into the body.

And I fully let go and release my thoughts just as I release the breath out of the body.

Seeing if I can get a sense of the thoughts flowing freely through the mind,

Just as the breath is flowing freely through the body.

And seeing if I can relax the mind,

The space of thoughts just as I've relaxed the body.

Free flowing thoughts through a relaxed mind.

Free flowing breath through the relaxed body.

It doesn't matter what the content of your thoughts are,

Just allow them to come and go through a relaxed mind.

Moving on to the fourth area,

Seeing if we can introduce this deep sense of relaxation into how we're feeling,

To our emotional side.

So bringing the same tools with us of awareness,

Allowing,

Releasing and letting go.

Being aware of how I'm feeling,

Allowing myself to feel just like that,

That any effort or intention to change how I'm feeling.

And then release.

Giving whatever emotions I'm experiencing all the time and space they need to release and resolve and to flow.

And just as with the thoughts,

The actual content of the thoughts are really not relevant to this sense of providing a space for relaxing.

And so too,

Whatever the emotion,

Providing a relaxed space for that emotion to flow freely and release.

Concentrate on those thoughts and feelings,

Giving them both all the space they need to flow freely through my mind,

Through my awareness.

Releasing them,

Being present,

Being open,

Allowing and accepting.

Relaxing the mind,

Relaxing the thoughts,

Relaxing the emotions.

Release and relax.

And just checking in again for a couple of moments,

Back to the body and the breath.

Just notice if I've introduced or allowed any tension back into the body.

Just using the breath to really relax the body,

The whole body to allow that breath in freely.

Really releasing,

Relaxing the out-breath and bringing that sense of release and relaxation throughout the whole body.

And we're creating another virtuous circle.

The more the body and the breath relax,

The more the mind and the thoughts and the emotions will ease and release and relax.

The calmer the mind becomes,

The more deeply the body can relax.

Beginning to get a sense that my whole self,

My whole person,

Body and mind,

All becoming more and more relaxed.

The next step,

We can explore another aspect of the present moment and become aware of all the sounds we can hear.

So listening out for the variety of sounds,

The louder and quieter sounds,

Any continuous background sounds and the occasional sounds.

And listening to the nearest sounds.

And really opening,

Broadening and widening your awareness to listen out for any distant sounds.

No matter how quiet or occasional they may be,

Being alert and open to catch the most distant sounds within your awareness.

And by really being open and aware to all the sounds in our environment,

By allowing those sounds to come and go,

We can bring that deep sense of relaxation of the body and the mind into our environment.

Again feeling that connection,

That harmony between now not just the body and the mind,

But the body,

Mind and our environment all brought together in this shared moment with this experience of deep relaxation,

Awareness allowing,

Releasing,

Letting go and deeply relaxed.

So rest assured that despite these 많ain Bring all these aspects together,

Seeing if we can get a sense of the wholeness and the totality of the present moment,

Not focusing on one thing or another,

Having a real open awareness and holding the whole moment gently within our awareness.

The mind,

Our inner and outer environments,

The totality of our moment by moment experience,

All held within our open and relaxed awareness.
