Hi,
This is Stefania.
Welcome to Wisdom Bits,
Many talks about this and that,
Living a positive lifestyle.
Today,
Let's talk about positive affirmations.
Do they really work?
Or is it just a bunch of mumbo-jumbo nonsense?
I say yes,
Positive affirmations do work.
The secret is they don't work.
They don't work by themselves.
They don't work just by saying them over and over.
They've got to be accompanied by close to 100% belief as you can manage.
And they've got to be accompanied by action.
Positive affirmations to me are like triggers,
Inspiration,
Reminders.
That's why we say the affirmation over and over,
So it can spur us on to right action.
Affirmations by themselves are not miracle workers.
But combined with desire,
Innovation,
Creativity and steady,
Persistent action,
They can be powerful allies and tools in our life skills survival kit.
Affirmations are best said in the present tense because it is what our minds and inner sense intuitive knowing respond to.
In the morning to start our day and at night to program ourselves before sleep are good times.
Then we can top up the energy by saying them at some point during the day as well.
If we make an affirmation in the future tense,
It's always going to be in the future.
We will always be moving towards it but never get there.
Then we wonder what happened.
We think we're wasting our time but we're not.
It's working just as it should in the future.
So present tense,
Like chasing something on a conveyor belt.
If you see them in the future,
It's always ahead of us and never with us.
So make those affirmations in the present tense.
The now,
Such as,
You know,
I am now making strides in my career.
Your mind might think this is total nonsense but keep at it.
You might have to say that affirmation hundreds of times but don't give up.
You might even want to record yourself saying the affirmation and listen back to it.
Another good idea is to put a bit of inspirational music behind the affirmation.
Then listen to it every day as much as you can.
You can even record it on your phone and then,
You know,
Odd moments during the day.
Put it on your headphones and have a listen.
If your mind still thinks,
Still tells you that you're full of rubbish,
Nonsense garbage,
Seek out affirmations that are voiced by others.
They will be recorded in the first person.
That might be easier to accept,
Something coming into you from the outside.
Surely that must be true because somebody else said it about you and your mind might think that way and might accept those words more easily.
Just,
You know,
Try different ways to find the one that works for you because they do work.
Speaking from my own experience,
They do work.
I found that once I've been working with the affirmation for a while,
I'm spurred on to action.
I'm thinking what can I do to move this affirmation along,
To spur it on?
Because as you are taking action in the now,
It makes that affirmation more powerful and easier to believe that it is your now.
If your friends or your colleagues,
Your family are not amenable to what you're saying in your affirmation,
Then keep it to yourself.
Do them secretly.
Let the proof be in the manifestation of your dream.
You don't need anybody's permission to dream,
To have goals,
To have desires,
As long as they don't hurt anyone or impinge on anyone else's rights.
Another good thing,
Have a journal and write your affirmations down.
There is something very special about writing from your mind to your hand to the paper of your journal.
Of course,
You can always use your computer or mobile apps as well if that works better for you.
The important thing is to believe,
To be persistent,
Holding on to your dreams with the use of affirmation and then,
This is the important part,
Then to follow the hunches,
The ideas,
The intuition that comes to you for right action.
This may not be something that you can do alone so you can affirm as well that the right people who can help you come into your life,
The right resources that you need will come to you,
But you've got to be willing to take action.
It's just not going to appear out of nowhere.
We have to be willing to change,
To grow,
Maybe even to step out of our comfort zone.
If we are quite shy,
Might be hard to get out and about,
But we have to meet people.
We have to be where the universe wants us to be,
To connect with those who can help us and with those whom we can help.
So,
There you go.
Yes,
Affirmations do work,
But we have to work them.
We have to be persistent,
Stubborn even.
Say them,
Write them,
Thank them,
Hear them over and over and then follow through on the actions as we are guided.
So,
Have you tried working with affirmations?
How did it turn out?
Let's share.
Do you have any tips on how you made affirmations work for you?
Give it a go.
I sometimes write my affirmations down and the other thing that I do sometimes,
I use mala beads.
It's like a rosary and just,
You know,
Say the affirmation over and over as you go past each bead.
That's kind of helpful,
But we each have to find our own way.
If you have anything that you'd like to share,
Feel free to leave a comment.
Until next time.

Very interesting! Concise and clear and gave me knew ways of thinking about this topic. Will listen again. As with affirmations, more than once is important !

I absolutely agree. I find pairing up the same types of affirmations in a daily "theme" to be especially helpful. I will add the day's theme - perhaps it's "abundance" - to my morning practice, then another set by another teacher or in a different format but ALSO on the theme of "abundance" in the even. Sometimes I put them on repeat and wear earbuds to sleep, repeating them as an aid to sleep. During the day, I may add additional affirmations in along the daily theme, in addition to any other practices I undertake. The different voices and styles make me feel there is a massive "support group" who see these things in me already and are helping me to realize they already exist within me as well. This has made a HUGE difference for me over the last year in particular. Sometimes I choose the next day's theme the night before if I know a certain quality (compassion, patience, tolerance, clarity, etc) will be in high demand and other times I select it based on how I feel upon awakening. As a person living with chronic pain and medical issues, "radiant health" and healthy living/wellness, exercise, nutrition, etc are my default themes. Working beautifully, especially the ones set to music. I have considered using mala beads as you mentioned but have yet to find a set that resonate well with me. I am considering making my own set to wear/carry specifically for my health/wellness sequence, and a second, more generic set of beads I can use for all other themes as needed. Thank you for sharing this talk! I thoroughly enjoyed it. 😊 I see the light in you. 🤲❤️🤲
