Are you struggling with negative emotions and you only want to change them to something positive?
If yes,
Then keep on listening.
This podcast is exactly what you need.
But if it's your first time here,
I'm Spiros and you are listening to Inside Conversations,
Which is a place where we explore conversations from within and also discuss with ordinary people about personal development,
Mindset,
Mental health,
Psychology,
Philosophy,
All the interesting stuff.
Today the topic is about negative emotions,
Feelings and thoughts,
That we want to change them to positive.
So the obvious place to start in this podcast is to talk about the opposites.
You know,
We live in a society that almost everything is represented as a battle of opposites.
We talk about rich versus poor,
About healthy versus ill,
Especially in this period of COVID-19.
And if you live in Manchester,
It's about Manchester United versus Manchester City.
So it seems that we have learned and taught ourselves to label our experiences as positive or as negative,
As good or bad.
And we cannot really see that these two are connected.
We just take them as separate.
However,
When you look around you,
There are so many concepts like light and dark,
Life and death.
But can you really have one without the other?
Can you know what happiness means if you have never felt sadness?
Can you feel achievement if you haven't struggled for it?
A similar connection applies to concepts that at first glance they don't seem related.
Take for example the flowers and the bees.
They are totally different and unrelated species.
But still the existence of one depends on the existence of the other.
And that's the idea behind non-dualism or yin and yang,
As I presume a lot of you may have heard before.
It's that everything arises mutually.
And regarding the opposites,
They are like the two sides of a coin.
You know,
When you flip a coin you may win or you may lose at the time,
But the coin is still one.
And I believe that as humans we struggle,
We become depressed,
We get anxiety because we perceive one as better than the other.
We believe that happiness is better than sadness.
And we also get frustrated because we cannot really see the deeper connection between what we want and what we don't want.
Let me say this again.
We get frustrated because we cannot really see the deeper connection between what we want and what we don't want.
So what can we do about that?
Well,
Before I talk about this,
Let me tell you a story that has helped me in difficult times.
I don't remember the story word by word,
But it goes like this.
A king asked his best craftsman to make him a magical ring to protect him from all misfortunes.
His craftsman though made him an ordinary ring,
But the outside he carved a message so the king can read it anytime he needed to.
And the message was,
That too shall pass.
And this is exactly what we have to realize.
That change is inevitable.
It will come eventually in our lives.
Whenever we feel sad,
We will start feeling better.
And whenever we feel well,
Eventually we start feeling a little bit low or depressed.
It's always a cycle.
And I will talk about those circular emotions going up and going down,
Similar to inhaling and exhaling,
In one of the following weeks.
So stay tuned.
And that's the thing.
Change is not in our control.
We cannot really do anything about it.
What is in our control though,
Is to accept our situation.
But I'm not talking about passively accepting a situation.
No,
I'm talking about actively allowing the situation to be,
Allowing to exist.
And another thing that is in our control is to appreciate whatever is our situation.
To really appreciate it.
And knowing that this situation will change,
Because change is inevitable,
Makes us to feel grateful for it and more present.
I hope you found this podcast helpful,
Especially if you struggle with some negative emotions or thoughts at the moment.
Just remember that whatever your situation is,
It will change.
And this is not in your control.
It's not in my control.
It's not in anyone's control.
What is in our control is to accept,
To allow it to be and to appreciate whatever we experience at the moment.
You just listened to Inside Conversations.
