Have you ever felt that there is nothing to be grateful for?
If yes,
This is the time to start keeping a gratitude journal.
I know it sounds controversial,
But it works.
The idea behind such a journal is to contemplate on your day and write down the things that you are grateful for.
Personally,
Every night before I go to bed I write three things that made me smile during the day,
That made me feel good.
The tricky part for me,
And I guess for most of us,
Is to keep writing the gratitude journal every single day.
For example,
There are days that I don't feel like doing so,
Perhaps because nothing really happened to be grateful for.
Perhaps it's one of those days that I feel low or depressed or really angry,
Those days that I wish that didn't exist.
But the way to go in those cases is to see my day from another perspective.
What would another person be grateful for my own day?
Or even how would me of the past,
Of a day that I was feeling a bit better,
Have seen my day today?
You know,
When I contemplate on my day,
When I spend five dedicated minutes on this task,
I'm so surprised by the number of things that I find to be grateful for.
And the items of the gratitude list aren't always something special or extraordinary.
There were times that one of my entries was a passenger smiled at me this afternoon as we passed by.
After all,
I know that it's the small pleasures that make us humans.
Now,
I'm convinced that a massive shift happens within us when we start keeping such a list,
Because unconsciously we remind ourselves that good things happen all the time,
Even when we don't perceive them with our conscious and sometimes depressed and blocked mind.
The shift is so great that I encourage my coaching clients to keep a gratitude journal and believe it or not,
All of them say how more content and fulfilled they have started feeling.
But don't take my word for it.
Start keeping a gratitude journal tonight and soon you will see the difference within you.
And please let me know about your experience.
Whether you already keep a gratitude journal,
All you will start one today.
Happy writing.
