Welcome to the Boreal Vibrations Wellness Show where we will immerse ourselves in a journey designed to calm your mind, body and soul through the healing power of sound, nature and breath. In this first episode, we will look the benefits of the White Pine Tree, learn the Balloon Breath and be introduced to soundhealing. I have been a teacher for over 25 years, founded Roots & Branches Forest school which focuses on wellness and connection. Through self-discovery and many trainings over the years I have guided others and have transformed my own life with Breath, Sound and Forest. I am dedicating this first episode to Mark Humphrey who inspired this show. He passed away shortly after speaking to me about a soundhealing interview with me he saw on Rogers TV.

Welcome to the Boreal Vibrations Wellness Show,

Where we will immerse ourselves on a journey to wellness.

Each week,

I'm going to share actionable tips to help you calm your mind and relieve stress,

So that we can heal our mind,

Our body,

And our souls through the power of sound,

Nature,

And breath.

I've been a teacher for 25 years,

And I teach in the forest,

In a forest school that teaches mental wellness and connection to self.

In our school,

I guide others to learn different strategies to help themselves along their journey,

And also teaching them about plants and ways to live freely.

Through self-discovery and many,

Many trainings,

I transformed my life,

And I decided to help others transform theirs as well.

And over the last 10 years,

I discovered three main things that are really impactful,

And those three things are nature,

Sound,

And breath.

And those are the things that we are going to learn about in this show.

Let's look at the white pine.

This amazing tree is found here in northern Ontario.

They grow very,

Very large.

You can't even put your arms around some of them.

These trees were said to be the connection to the spirit world.

They are a symbol of connecting heaven and earth.

And they grow so tall,

And they're so beautiful.

And they're so beautiful,

And they're so beautiful,

And they're so beautiful.

They are a symbol of connecting heaven and earth.

And they grow so tall that they remind us that there's no separation between heaven and earth.

This tree has so much medicine inside of it.

I'm going to just show you,

If you look at these branches closely,

How to identify it.

If you look at the branches,

The needles grow on little tufts,

And each of the tufts hold long green needles,

And there's five in each little bunch.

And this is how I remember it,

W-H-I-T-E,

For white pine.

And you can even look how it all grows onto one little stem there.

So this pine is very,

Very unique.

It also is protected in our area.

The medicine of this,

This beautiful,

Beautiful white pine,

It's an expectorant to expel phlegm.

It's really good for flus,

Colds,

Coughs,

For the respiratory system,

For your digestive system.

And if you have a sore throat,

It can really help.

How can you use this?

So one handful of the pine needles in maybe a litre of water.

Boil it on the stove,

Let it steep for 15 to 30 minutes.

And you can add lemon or cinnamon or honey to make it a little bit more flavourful.

And then you have a tea.

If you do have a sore throat,

Double the strength and you can gargle with it.

Or you can add two litres of the tea into a bath.

And the bath water with the pine is really,

Really good for arthritis or if you have any sore joints.

I like to use it,

Especially when the seasons start to change,

The barometric pressure really affects me.

And using the white pine tea in the water can really soothe your aching,

Sore joints.

One more thing you can do is you can make a white pine vinegar.

So you can take the white pine,

Put it into a mason jar and fill it with apple cider vinegar.

Leave it for three weeks and you'll have a very concentrated,

A little bit stronger of a solution to use.

You can use it like a cough syrup.

So one of the most important things that I have learnt that can change the way you feel instantly is by breathing properly.

I have created thousands,

Well maybe not thousands,

Hundreds of breaths for,

It started out for children.

And then I realised that they were just as beneficial for all the adults that I worked with as well.

I started looking into different kinds of breathing techniques and I've done a few different breath trainings.

The main thing that I want to share with you today is the way that you're breathing.

And I challenge you to try this method this week.

So most of us,

Over time,

We change the way we breathe.

When we're born,

It's the first thing that you do.

And you start to breathe when you're born through your belly.

And then over time,

As life starts happening and we get stressed,

Our body starts to rise.

And sometimes our shoulders come up to our neck and we have pain all in here.

Or we're just really frantic about things and a lot of people breathe through their chest.

So I want to show you how to breathe by using your belly.

And quite a few years ago,

I was able to change the way I breathe within a week.

Just consciously focusing on this method.

So I'm going to show you how to do it.

So you're going to put your hands on your belly.

And what you're going to do is you're going to inhale deeply,

Filling your belly up with air like a big balloon like this.

And then on the exhale,

You flatten the belly like this.

Now,

If you can do that five times in a row throughout the day,

You'll notice a huge difference on how you feel more grounded and some of your anxiety will melt away.

And you'll be able to just focus a little bit more on your tasks.

So let's just practice it again together.

So put your hands on your belly.

And once you get it,

You'll start to just do this naturally over time.

So inhaling through the belly like a big balloon.

Breathing in.

Flattening the belly.

Exhale.

And continue this way.

Breathing in.

And out.

So breathing with depth allows for the liberation of more energy.

It also stimulates your vagus nerve.

Which is your longest nerve in your body,

Connecting your gut to your brain.

And that's your heart and brain connection.

Breathing properly releases feel-good hormones like serotonin,

DMT,

And it will change the way you feel.

So I recommend that you do these five deep breaths in the morning when you wake up,

Maybe at lunch,

On your coffee break,

And in the evening.

Start with those three.

And for one week,

Do these throughout the day.

And just notice how you feel and see if it makes a difference for you.

One of the most impactful things in my life has been sound.

And I really,

Really would love to share that with you.

Each week,

I'm going to play you a beautiful sound piece using all of these different instruments.

And all you have to do is receive the sound.

I recommend that you lie down or sit in a really comfortable chair and close your eyes if possible.

And let the sounds nourish you.

And just calm and let go of everything while I play.

I won't get into everything today.

So just enjoy.

Ding.

Ding.

Ding.

Ding.

Ding.

Ding.
