Our centering quote comes from Brené Brown: "You can choose courage or you can choose comfort, but you cannot choose both, not at the same time." In this meditation we dive into "why" choosing to embrace discomfort is essential for growth. While it may never be "easy" to choose courage over comfort, the rewards on the other side make the effort worthwhile. With practice, this mindful choice becomes more natural.

Renee Brown says you can choose courage or you can choose comfort but you cannot choose both not at the same time.

Hey,

Hannah here and I welcome and acknowledge you for choosing to be here.

Today's meditation is on embracing discomfort.

You can listen to this meditation seated lying down or going for a walk.

Tune into what your body needs at this time.

If it's available to you gently closing your eyes and taking a few deep breaths in and out.

Feel the support beneath you and allow yourself to relax into the present.

Together let's take three deep belly breaths.

Breathing in through your nose as you fill your belly and lungs with air.

A slight pause at the top and then open mouth exhale as you sigh out and release any tension in your shoulders.

Another belly breath in.

One more deep belly breath in.

Pause at the top and your longest open mouth sigh letting go of any racing negative thoughts that are not serving you right now.

Give yourself a gift of this moment.

Now let's explore the idea of embracing discomfort and choosing courage over imagining yourself at the gym.

Standing in front of the weight rack you can pick up the lighter ones staying within your comfort zone or you can challenge yourself with heavier weights.

This choice represents moments in life where we can either stick to what is safe and known or push ourselves towards growth.

That requires stepping into the unknown.

Think about a friendship that maybe no longer feels aligned.

It takes courage to acknowledge this and even more courage to end the relationship.

To create space for relationships that truly resonate with who you are now.

Picture yourself at a networking event.

Your comfort zone tells you to stay back,

To avoid awkward conversations and by stepping forward,

Introducing yourself and engaging with new people you open doors to opportunities you could have never imagined.

Reflect on a time when you did something completely different.

How did it feel after you took that leap of faith?

It was probably not as scary as you had built it up to be in your head.

Consider how growth lies on the other side of discomfort and courage.

Each time you choose courage,

You expand your boundaries and discover new parts of yourself.

While it may never be easy to choose courage over effort,

Make some effort worthwhile.

I'll take this next minute to practice mindful breath.

In,

You get lost in the process of choosing this passage.

Asking yourself now,

What is one courageous thing you can do today to exercise your ability to embrace this challenge?

It could be a small step or a big leap.

Choose something that will help you grow.

Take a moment to sit with your thoughts.

Feel the strength within,

The courage that is always there,

Waiting to be tapped.

Remember,

You can choose courage or comfort,

But you cannot choose both,

Not at the same time.

Embrace the discomfort for on the other side lies growth.

You've got this,

I believe.

Gently start inviting some deeper breaths.

Bringing some movement to your fingers and toes as you come back to your body.

Gently floating both hands to rest on top of your heart.

Acknowledging the love and potential within you.

And acknowledging all emotions and all experiences that you carry,

Because all of you matters.

Sending you peace and permission to embrace discomfort.
