Hello,
This is Sumit Jain and I welcome you to day one of the 21 days meditation experience.
The first day is very important and so we'll start with a very simple practice called mindfulness.
The Buddhist meditation practice is known as Vipassana,
Is based on this principle of mindfulness.
In this,
We are simply aware of the world around us,
Of our feelings,
Of our physical sensations.
And we experience this through our five senses.
So while you are mindful,
If you feel you are starting to drift away into the past or the future,
Or into an internal dialogue of the mind,
Simply bring back to the present moment,
To any sounds in the environment,
To any thoughts,
To any feelings,
And that's it.
This awareness is called mindfulness.
And being mindful of every impression being made on your body and your mind is what this meditation is all about.
So let's begin our first meditation together in the spirit of mindfulness.
And whatever you become aware of,
It is part of the meditation.
So you will have thoughts,
You will see things,
You will hear things,
You will feel things,
You will smell things,
And you may even taste something,
And your intellect will be processing all the time,
Whatever it is.
Keep your awareness on it.
And as soon as you drift away,
Even if it's for a few seconds,
Just simply bring your awareness back into this present moment.
And bring your awareness to something that your senses are feeding you in this moment.
For example,
If you hear a noise,
And that's where your attention will flow,
But after that you smell something,
And you just drift away towards that smell which might be coming from an incense stick.
And immediately you might feel that your arm is itching,
And you bring your attention to that.
So from one sensation to the other,
Just be aware of all the five senses.
We are mindful,
We are aware,
And for the first time we will experience that we are awake.
So first thing first,
Make yourself very comfortable.
You can sit wherever you like,
But just make sure that you are comfortable.
And we'll start with our eyes open.
Simply look around.
And move your head very slowly from one side to the other side.
And you notice every small piece is around you with full details.
And if you move your head very fast,
You just take in very small details.
And when you're looking around,
Notice how thick or thin that objects are,
Whether it is dense or porous or empty.
Wherever your attention goes,
Just keep it moving in the present moment.
Just see whatever is present in front of you.
And now slowly close your eyes.
Start hearing whatever you are hearing right now.
Any sounds,
Any noise.
Now even start smelling any fragrance coming from anywhere.
Just look at the taste in your mouth.
And start intellect processing at this moment.
Simply take in all this information,
All these experiences,
All the stimulus from your ears,
Nose,
Eyes,
Skin,
Tongue.
If you're seeing anything in the mind's eye,
Just let it be.
Feel any physical sensations you're having right now.
And if you're drifting away,
Simply bring your awareness to this moment.
If you're touching something,
What is it?
You will notice that your breath has become very slow and shallow.
Make it deeper.
During this practice,
Remember to consistently bring your awareness to your breathing.
Gentle,
Long breaths.
And also aware of all the five senses.
Okay?
When you feel comfortable,
You can stop bringing your attention and your awareness to all the things around you.
And you can let go of this entire experience.
And now let's seal this experience by chanting OM together.
OM is a vibration,
A mantra.
And it represents the reverberations of the most basic primordial sounds.
So OM essentially contains every vibration that has ever existed and every vibration that will ever exist.
And it connects our individuality to the universe.
So let's chant OM one time together.
Take a deep breath in.
And gently release.
Let's chant it OM together.
Take a deep breath in.
OM When you feel comfortable,
Just open your eyes slowly.
This meditation till now was 13 minutes together.
It's our very first meditation today.
And I'm glad you were with me on this journey together with thousands of other meditators.
And it has become such a strong experience of a unified energy.
And it will get even more powerful day by day.
More profound.
So today you have experienced what it's like to be mindful.
And we'll talk about more meditations and how we can use them in our meditation practices in the next 20 days.
So from the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University and on behalf of the Universal Energy,
This is Sumit wishing you peace and namaste.
